Watching the senate feels like "The Condemnation of Donald Trump"

It's kinda refreshing. Obviously Dems are slamming him. But the amount of Republicans that are condemning him, in a weasily way or not is really nice. It's like, the republican party is really trying to shed the bastard.

Lindsey (fuck em!) genuinely sounded like the mob scared the shit out of him and it changed his mind. If the failed insurrection did anything today, it accelerated the republican party a rejection of Trump and nothing more.

So... Yeah.

The optics, and long-term ramifications, of what happened today could literally wind up being the start of the end of the Republican party as a political force in this country. The GOP in the senate is doing everything they possibly can to try and distance themselves since they know they have to live in a post-Trump world and Trump could very well destroy the party with him.

Rudy's getting paid by the day, he knows exactly what he's doing. He's probably the smartest person in Trump's orbit (not exactly a high bar, to be fair).

EDIT: Oh wait, yeah, calling the wrong person is dumb as shit. LOL!

Capitol hill is still standing but there is no one in sight, it's overcast, the air is ashy, everything is gray but the braise of burned Trump signs. There's a podium. There's Giuliani, the capitol hill behind him, the wind swept dust flying, hands on the podium, staring at the only camera still standing, with no one behind it.

Oh I'm not talking about talking through social media. This is not working. Talking, humans to humans. Face to face. Talking, not swinging insults to each other.

These MAGA people will have to reformed, whether it's in jail or followed by psychiatrist, work will have to be done to save these people from themselves.
You really think no one has tried talking to Trump supporters face to face????

Jesus Christ.

Not only is this incredibly naive, but there's literally no reforming a lot of these people. You just have to move on and create a society that finds their shit unacceptable. They're lost. Fuck 'em.

True, but there's a reason to that, and I'm certain this reasoning can be found. There's no way in hell this is not engrained in culture and society in some way or another. It needs to be further understood to be uprooted, and talking about concepts amongst us, does not seem to be leading anywhere, at least on social media.

There needs to be a better understanding of these phenomenons.

Its not a phenomenon, and in most cases, its not just some switch that can be flipped. These people are deeply, deeply, bigoted and racist. These are not, in most cases, people who were perfectly normal and rational and suddenly became racist from watching a few Facebook videos. This was something that was always in them.

So prepare to hang them one after the other if that makes you feel more comfortable, and you think you have nothing left to do to help them/save them? Or jail them for their lifetime if that makes people feel better. I just think this is temporary relief for something that is a deeper problem.

I never said that no one has tried talking to them.

Once again, there are TED talks about individuals removing other individuals from far-right groups and there accounts are shocking but necessary. It's going to be painful, gruesome, but it is necessary.

I wish I could say I disagree, but I can't. You are right. They are acting like shitstains.

Now, the question is, HOW CAN WE UNDO THAT? I know, sounds insane, but, yah, we need to and I'm saying, let's find a lasting way to solve this problem. Not a superficial one. Kill a thousand of them, and there will be another thousand that will raise. WHY? How? HOW CAN WE STOP IT FROM GROWING AGAIN?
Some are just too far gone for us to be able to do anything without some out of our control epiphany that they might experience at some point in life due to some random happenstance that makes them renounce their hateful ideology (I mean, it happens; it's not common, but it does). They've dug their heels in and are willing to LITERALLY die on this hill. For a vast, vast majority of them, there's no talking them out of this.

What we can do is focus on education as well as changing & improving society to the point that people (especially young boys & men) have less room & reason to go down this insane rabbit hole of right-wing radicalization/fascism. We'll never be rid of violent right-wing chuds altogether but we can push them into obscurity like they had been until these more recent tumultuous late stage capitalist times have caused a resurgence. It just takes time.

On Jan. 5, a day before her death, Babbitt tweeted references to another QAnon slogan, "dark to light," and said the United States would soon see "The Storm"—a moment much awaited by QAnon followers, in which Trump would execute his opponents in the Democratic Party.

and you wonder why she was trying to squeeze through a shattered window pane

It's worth trying personally I think, but without an organized governmental response no amount of personal conversion/understanding will help.

It's weird. At the old ERA place I was permabanned a few times, often because I supported the death penalty. Especially for the Norwegian nut who killed 86 kids on an island or whatever. I used to get shouted down for being a bloodthirsty revenge-porn addict. And you guys are laughing at some woman who got shot in the neck because she was brainwashed into a hate cult. I don't really have any sympathy for her, just not sure if the times have changed or just the people who are on this forum now. Just stoned and noticed. Carry on!

One does not become brainwashed into anger and hatred, they just become privileged in its use when they see a public figure that they can relate to using it as free ammunition because it's the one thing that they can get away with on minimum consequences.

Hatred is a self-inflicted wound onto yourself that's only fed by the environmental variables around you. It's not so simple as someone saying "Oh, go hate this person".

We're not cliques in high school anymore.

For all your "enlightened" babbling you finally settled for sending people to mental institutions? now that's crazy, these people have agency, you can't just invent some diagnosis to put people in madhouses instead of jail.

It's ok to admit you have no idea what you are talking about.

I feel like the military should have trained her to not jump a barrier if there is a dude on the other side very obviously pointing a gun at your neck.

I just feel like this is always pushing this issue to a later date, with hopes that under the carpet, it won't be able to grow anymore but it will come back at a later date.

But I do agree with your second paragraph. On my end, I blame toxic masculinity as one of the biggest plague of American society. It is so deeply rooted in your culture, it'll be almost impossible to uproot.
