The whole "please collect points" thing is pretty ominous. My mind went to like survival game where players with the lowest score are eliminated.

It was probably the most interesting thing to me in the chapter. Personally, I think this is a case of aliens (since we have lowkey established aliens exist) and the points is actually meant to be a kinda nebulous fake reward when really the points are all going to a super AI or something. The more people use the smartphone, the smarter the AI becomes or something like that.

Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san (by Koyama Aiko)

wrt3meO.jpg

Junior Geisha Slice of Life | 19 volumes, ongoing, not licensed in English
Within the winding streets of Kyoto's geisha district, there lives a 16 year old girl named Kiyo. After failing to become a Maiko, an apprentice traditional Japanese performer, Kiyo works as the caterer for her troupe. This is the story of her daily life.(source)

From Jintor:
A wonderful manga about the life of a caterer for a maiko (junior geisha) house in Kyoto, a young 16-year old who is best friends with an aspiring maiko but who dropped out of her apprenticeship. Very slice of life, very calming, mono no aware and all that jazz. With chapters only about 12 pages long and lots and lots of food porn, it's fairly plotless though structurally it does basically follow the progression of the best friend through her apprenticeship. Probably at its best when contrasting the 'public facing' part of the maiko persona with the 'backstage' portion (a maiko who mostly wanders around off-duty in glasses and a hoodie is the best example of that contrast). (source)

One Piece to Current

Glad there was some living spirt in Luffy's fruit, felt unlike his contemporaries in that he was the only one to not have access to a greater power through some connection with his fruit. Oda finally delivers the content that was so very needed.

Shugomaru to Current

Three more bodyguards has made this even funner than ever. I love how quirky everyone is.

The selfie panel is so sweet and cute. Also they totally didn't wait for another fireworks festival to put on yukatas.

I'm reading Akane-banashi and I'm liking it, but I have the bad feeling that it might be one of those short-lived ones that only get 2-3 volumes.

early trends are good:
- good Amazon pre-orders
-good TOC placement
-early color page

Jump+ views are somewhat lacking, but considering PPPPPP's views, and how it's still ongoing, I'd say it's fine.

Good ToC placement should mean alot considering that Doron and Ayashimon are always at the bottom yet still seem to be hanging in there.

With so much stuff ending in the near-ish future, it kinda feels the axe is a little more lenient for the time being. I just wish Doron would get canceled. I'm done hate-reading it, shit is insulting.

i usually don't read sport manga but Blue Lock is great, especially how dynamic and strong the art is. It's rare that I read a manga that can depict the intensity movement so perfectly like that.

Seriously? That'd be great. Fell off the anime but I liked it well enough so I'd pick it back up if it was part of the sj sub.
It looks like the 10 chapters before it changed magazine are missing, and like other new viz jump simulpubs there seems to be a gap between what Viz has officially released in volume form and where they'll be simulpublishing (looks to only be like 30 chapters though)

Keep wondering if Undead Unluck has been told to wrap up publication or not. Week to week it seems to be flying between both situations. I like the manga so I'd be sad to see it go, but the whims of the editors are like the wind.

I mean it was never going to something hugely popular in the west considering the manga is about a niche Japanese art with no action focus at all and is mostly about the art in question rather than using it as a background for slice of life/drama.

As long as it ranks decent and has ok sales it'll have a long life. Jump tends to be more lenient to these sorts of mangas as Hinomaru Zumou shows.

Jump+ is the Japanese app
Manga Plus is the western one

About time they added Kaguya to the vault. Since I saw Young Jump titles were viable, I wondered "When is Kaguya coming? Viz has the license"

Now how about Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter?

IT took them way too long to recognize Kaguya as something they should be simulpubbing.

Granted the official translation always felt lacking compared to the fan translation in terms of spice

Is it even simulpubbing? Seems to be getting a new chapter later today, which doesn't add up with the other Young Jump simuplub releases, like Kubo for example. Maybe they'll just slowly update until they catch up or just put up the volume releases. How does Viz handle Golden Kamuy?

I've wanted to read Ookiku Furikabutte for like 15 years, but I'm curious, what makes it so good?
I've never thought about this actually, and all I can say is that it works at being a manga about high school baseball with all the emotions and trappings of kids that age. It's not the best baseball manga, strategy wise or art wise, like Major and Ace of the Diamond, nor does it use baseball as a vehicle for character drama like Adachi Mitsuru's mangas. It feels like a story mostly about the atmosphere of the club and dealing with adolescent insecurities and the uncertainties of life during and after HS, while juggling trying to actually do baseball well. The baseball portion does get more in depth as the series goes on though, and it works as a showcase of character growth. I would recommend it.

They've not announced anything yet, we just woke up and there it was in the vault outta nowhere. All we know is something new is coming on ~9 hours be that the next volumes worth of chapters, the first 10 missing chapters, last weeks Kaguya chapter, or the newest chapter. Hopefully Viz will make an official announcement soon.

First 10 chapters of Kaguya-sama are up on the Viz vault now.

I think it will go the Golden Kamuy route and add new volumes rather than simulpub.

Oh shit, just saw that Kaguya is on the SJ app. Looks like I'm late to this.

I own volumes 1-5 but stopped purchasing/reading then. Time to catch up.

Kubo-san, Oshi no Ko and 100 Girlfriends are all both Young Jump and Jump + series, and they're the only series in this situation
Their status are different. The "Jump +" part is the reason Kubo-san is simulpubbed, and why I think when they'll catch up, they'll simulpub Oshi no Ko. 100 Girlfriends could also arrive at some point.

I wouldn't count on 100 Girlfriends. Seven Seas has licensed that.
Yes I know that MangaPlus still releases new chapters of Ayakashi Triangle, but that's a different case.

It all depends on the contract Seven Seas has with Shueisha. But if Shueisha planned that beforehand, then they could very well not have any sort of English exclusivity.
Kaiju No. 8 has a different translation on Viz compared to Manga Plus (Kaiju No. 8 / Monster #8), because M+ translates it themselves, without going through an EN publisher.

I recently got into Spy x Family and adored it so much that I wanted to purchase the physical volumes.

Does anyone know how often manga goes on sale - if ever? I believe there's now 8 volumes of SxF and no box set or collection, so I was hoping to take advantage of some kind of deal.

you just missed free comic book day when a lot of places put manga on like a 10-20% discount. (my local kinokuniya has online deals until today for online orders, so I'm going to grab all of machikado right now...)

spy x family is shonen jump is viz, i think, so you can watch out for sales from them relatively frequently (every few months?). or just follow your local bookshops/comic places and get notifications when they put on sales

Rightstuf does a big sale in the summer (end of June, into July) and a holiday sale (Nov into Dec) and they're the times I stock up on a ton of manga. Viz SJ titles are usually around $5.50 each and do bundles/single volumes at that price. However, printing presses and manga demand has had some taking long than normal to reprint. I ordered Spy x Family vol 1-5 during last summer sale, took up until Feb to finally get them all shipped out. It gets... annoying when they offer for sale everything, even if not in stock, and it turns into a waiting game. ....I'm still waiting on a bunch of stuff I ordered from the holiday sale :x

So yeah, that's only if you want deals > timely matter to receive.

Really enjoying the ass-blast in the fanbase over the current goings-on. The manga is spinning its wheels right now and needs to focus on clarifying who the hell is the enemy and what their objective is. While the author gets that together, its clear they're gonna have to make someone job to show the main character making progress.

Kaguya-sama Love is War is probably my favorite anime of the past number of years.. I completely adore it. It has finally been made available in the Shonen Jump app after previously requiring you to buy the back volumes. I don't really want to read ahead because I prefer being surprised/it being new to me.. but would anyone recommend I go back and re-read the stuff that has already been animated. Would it be worth it? Have they skipped much stuff on the show?

Yeah the manga is still enjoyable even if rereading content you have already seen animated. There are plenty of chapters that were skipped during the first two seasons and that will no doubt continue with season 3 onwards.

List of adapted chapters for the first two seasons I stole from MAL.

Kaguya-sama S1:

Episode 1 > Chapters 1, 12, 5.

Episode 2 > Chapters 11, 7, 6.

Episode 3 > Chapters 14, 8, 9.

Episode 4 > Chapters 17, 18, 19, 20.

Episode 5 > Chapters 16, 23, 21.

Episode 6 > Chapters 24, 28, 25.

Episode 7 > Chapters 26, 29, 27.

Episode 8 > Chapters 39, 31, 55.

Episode 9 > Chapters 33, 34, 35.

Episode 10 > Chapters 37, 38, 40.

Episode 11 > Chapters 41, 42, 43, 44(first half).

Episode 12 > Chapters 44(second half), 45, 46.

Kaguya-sama S2:

Episode 1 > Chapters 30, 48, 57, 51.

Episode 2 > Chapters 52, 53, 54.

Episode 3 > Chapters 56, 59, 60.

Episode 4 > Chapters 58, 61, 65.

Episode 5 > Chapters 63, 64, 36 (not a typo), 66.

Episode 6 > Chapters 67, 68, 69.

Episode 7 > Chapters 70, 71, 73, 74.

Episode 8 > Chapters 72, 78, 79.

Episode 9 > Chapters 80, 81, 82.

Episode 10 > Chapters 83, 84, 85, 86. (also includes some panels from chapter 87)

Episode 11 > Chapters 88, 89, 90. (also includes some panels from chapter 87)

Episode 12 > Chapters 100, 101, 91.

There is quiet a bit of content from the bit of the manga I read that the anime didn't adapt.

We're 400 chapters in total in and have no idea what the bad guys plans even are. They are one of the worst fictional groups of all time lmao. So many plot lines happen and are just forgotten about after a chapter. It's truly impressive.
