Irrespective of other drama, it is kind of amazing how—in retrospect—this was kind of predictable?
I made a thread last month basically asking if Palworld is the next big thing and it went ignored, lol.

www.resetera.com

Palworld comes out in early access next month, will it be the next ARK: Survival Evolved?

And by that I mean jank game with a bunch of ideas thrown together that is extremely fun to play and has mass appeal? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RePpKf8ym0 https://www.youtube.com/shorts/lBeJ9IrAKnw

I, too, expect a brand new IP from fairly unknown developers with the immediate first impression of a scam to match the sales figures of (arguably?) the most popular brand in the world. People need to have a bit of perspective.
When it's selling like this and capturing the zeitgeist like this you could. We're not talking about before it released or day 1 or 2.

Actually, in this regard, I gotta again praise the bosses designs. They look really cool:

I hadn't actually seen the character designs. Those are really good!

A new game beating current day Fortnite is unheard of. Feels like this is just the beginning.

Damn, you really called it. In-game performance is way better than launch ARK though lol

I never saw that cooking video, it's funny!

This genre really does have mass appeal. There was Rust. Ark is the first time it got my attention enough to buy and that game exploded. I also remember Conan had a big spotlight. More recently there was that Valheim and V Rising.

Oh and I guess Terraria, Minecraft etc., all count too. So many big hits.

And these are only a few... I remember going through my Steam queue and seeing like 7/10 of the games being sandbox survival games at one point.

Sozzm do ya'll think this little fella here could carry an anime if need be?

OIP.b2k7bgK_uNMnPNBDx62VbAAAAA

This is actually something - I believe - might happen paralelly to the game to develop the lore, story and all these neat elements.
Everyone likes Depresso, and I like him too, but he doesn't really seem like a good "mascot" for the game... at least not the MAIN mascot. He is like the Poliwhirl to Gen 1's Pikachu in Pokemon.

I think Lamball has a really good shot at being one of the main faces of the game, though, if not the main one. Cute, funny, encountered extremely early in-game, unique enough to remind you of Palworld in particular. The game needs to develop more of a visual identity in general, though.

Just another confirmation that the Xbox peaks are getting confounded by the massive Asian-led CCU on Steam.

Regardless, Microsoft is dumb if they're not fast tracking XBS patches already. Thus far it has been Gabe Newell getting the vast majority of the sales cut and increased traffic for this lmao. Certification process strikes again xD
It has definitely been relaxed, we've had a couple patches come out within the space of a day or less.

I did the same thing for Lethal Company. A lot of smaller games go under the radar on this forum until they became massive hits.

It took me a few days just to accept that the game was out in a substantial form and not a completely broken mess

Yeah, I like Lamball a lot, and it feels like a great mascot. It evokes Pokemon without being a specific knockoff and is extremely merch-able, so I expect we'll see a lot of it in the year ahead.

Palworld is first and foremost a Survival game, Pokemon is a monster catching/mascot game first and some variation of RPG second.
What is the point on getting this hung up on semantics. People are gonna think Pokemon. Pals literally look like Pokemon. There's catching. The UI is very close to Legends. Get over it.

I feel like TPC won't care unless a bunch of "pal likes" emerge and some of them manage similar success
TPC can care all they like, I have yet to see anyone with a legal background suggest that there would be any real case against Palworld to begin with. Again, we shall see.

Unless you mean in terms of like, how they design/make their next games. Who knows.

Thank you for this, fascinating video. Although again her bafflement that it's a parody at the end of the video, why is it so confusing? It's a dark comedy take on the same subject? Is it a thing where the monster designs are so derivative that people refuse to believe that there is any creativity whatsoever in the game? The commentary may not be to your personal standard, but it's there.

Like one of the funny things to me personally with this game is people getting offended that there's a game where you're so mean to the animals, beating them and forcing them to work for you. Man, what did you think you were doing in Pokemon, talking to them nicely until they got in the ball?

Despite this, they play nothing alike. What's the point of insisting they're even remotely similar beyond monster catching?

Sorry, didn't mean legally, more like influencing their titles
I just don't understand the things Gamefreak could take from this that would be helpful.

Speaking generally, I'd say most Pokemon fans want better technical performance and more dedicated endgame. Some calling for different format and difficulty settings.

Maybe you can argue the ways Pals interact with the world and do stuff other than battle. I think that part is dubious though because people hate HM type stuff.

At this point, they should just hire a few artists tro update the more problematic designs (like the serperior+primarina one) asap and get on with life, because that is the most problematic aspect in terms of what TPC can really do against them. The game is already a massive success, and will likely only get bigger, the possibility of getting into legal trouble because of a few ripped off monster designs is not worth it.

Nevermind.

"Despite the ways that they're similar, they're nothing alike."
Let me spell it out. The only reason these two are compared is because the Pal designs intentionally crib off Pokemon designs. There are no Pokemon Survival games, and Palworld is neither a turn-based or action RPG. Don't pretend otherwise.

Only posting here because I don't want to rain on ppl's parade in the OT but I'm still kinda baffled this has received the amount of praise it has. It's a fine game, but nothing more than that imo. Doesn't really do anything special for survival genre and I feel like some aspects of it don't really mesh well (I'm still early lvl 10 so maybe it's different later).

All the mechanics make up a greater sum of the whole. Considering it all works so well. The cute monsters are an added bonus.

To be fair to those playing (and the game itself) the "wave" at launch pre-weekend is prosbably a good part responsible for this.

But it does, it has minions, that do manual labor, no survival game does that, if you know anything similar please share as I would want to play it
