A lot of random, wait for the good stuff, filler stories this week. BLOODHUNT! needs to start already.

The Gillen Star Wars stuff is real good if you can look past Larocca art.
Yea that's a bummer. That Phil Noto cover is so good, wish they were on the book longer.

Sounds like the post ROTJ stuff should be starting after the main books hit issue 50.

I've been behind on Batman the last few years (comics aren't cheap), but I'm curious is this legit?

If so, that's pretty cool and makes me want to go see what I've missed.

It's true but it's in a side book so not much to catch up on. She's appeared in a few books in the past few years. Including a wild unexpected appearance in Birds of Prey.

Ultimate Spider-Man was pretty good but Hickman's dialogue can get a little tiring.

The Flash felt a little filler-y today, I really don't care for this Amanda Waller event thing.

G.O.D.S. was a nothing burger, glad the next one is the last so I'm free,

Avengers was alright but I finally noticed that Thor still has his helmet here....

DD was cool as well, nice page by Kuder below but I do miss impossible hair Elektra

I'm glad that it's Gillen writing it but it does feel like Duggan's doing such a shit job on his books that Gillen has to fill up the gaps
The two issues this week felt really weird how you could read the narrative while flip floping between the two. Time runs out for Krakoa I guess!

Nice to know Ram V is doing some good stufff, I think I'm waiting for 1 and 6 to be published here as TPB volumes. I know Rare Flavours is already confirmed.

After talking about Tom Taylor here a few weeks ago, I finally found some time to read Dark Knights of Steel. I was really surprised by how much better it was than I had expected. I expected a standard premise where each superhero had their own kingdom, but it was a good deal more complex than that. There were also a lot of twists that were pretty surprising and fun. The art and character design was also pretty pleasing. It is a little fanfictiony - but having a read a lot of older elseworlds recently, I think it comes with the territory and Taylor clearly is more imaginative than the average fanfic writer.

Fall of House of X has been quite boring so far. I know Duggan relies heavily on captions, but he's gone even further in this series. I literally try to read it without the captions, but it simply doesn't flow properly

RotPX and X-Men Forever are great though. It's a shame Gillen isn't responsible for FotHX as well, it would be a much more interesting sendoff to Krakoa

Brevoort wants new X book #1s every month

"Yes, Mark. And in September and October, too. Ultimately, I'd like for there to be some X-group new #1 every single month, whether it be a major launch or merely a more targeted limited series."
tombrevoort.substack.com

#108: Es Mi Vida. Por Que No?

Our title this time out comes from a late night occasion several years ago where, while waiting for some dinner to heat up, I was flipping through channels on by cable box and happened upon my local Spanish station showing a favorite film, Back To The Future.
Substack Q&A.

Still not sure what the actual pitch is for these new X books post Krakoa. One guy "asks" if they are basically just going back to the 90s status quo and Brevoort answers by saying they dont have to buy them lol.

EDIT: Oh and BC has some spoilers for DC's Absolute Power FCBD stuff

Ugh, that's far too many books being wasted on mutie gene-trash for my liking.

I vastly prefer the legacy numbering and keeping a series running long, but I guess this is less relaunching books and more likely to just be new minis that we'll pretend are ongoings to push more X-stuff out. Probably a couple solo books, I don't think we've got a New Mutants or X-Factor in the new line-up so those might still be coming.

Yeah the narration writing in Duggan's latest issue might just be his worst work yet. It's some really awful, awful writing.

That's what I mean, it feels like RotPoX and Forever are the two books carrying the narrative instead of RotPox and FotHoX like they were intended to, since FotHox is just a mess.

Frank Miller Strikes Partnership With Abrams ComicArts (Exclusive)

The collected editions of 'Ronin Rising' and 'Pandora' will be the first titles from Miller's Frank Miller Presents to be released by the publisher.

I guess this is that Didio relationship finally paying off. This seems like a pretty good deal for Frank Miller, especially since none of the FMP titles have particularly hit as far as I can tell. However, I wonder how successful this is gonna be, since I feel like Miller's reputation hasn't particularly recovered from his blatant Islamophobia era, and I doubt any of new stuff from Miller is gonna connect with a mainstream audience nowadays, but I dunno.

Also, The Comics Journal put out a review of Ronin Book II recently that I thought was worth a read. Personally, even though I thought Ronin's art was cool, I didn't think the story was interesting enough that I'd want to read a follow-up. Also, to me, at least half of Ronin's appeal was in Lynn Varley's colors, so the fact that the follow up was was in black and white kinda makes it a no-go.

Meanwhile, 40 Years Later... - The Comics Journal

A tale of two Ronin, comparing the 1983-84 Frank Miller/Lynn Varley original with Miller's 2022-24 sequel, made in collaboration with Philip Tan & Daniel Henriques.

Maybe I'm just a hard to please hater, but they look like fairly middle of the road covers to me. I get that it's her book, but the reaction seems much stronger than the quality of the covers warrant, IMO.

I think she's excited because it's her book. Uncanny X-Men is one of the industry's premiere titles. A title that comic creators clearly hold in high esteem. I think her reaction is fine.

I don't begrudge her reaction and I like Gail, so I'm not shitting on her. I just think the covers are just kind of middling.

Yea none of this feels exciting. Gail is great, but this just doesnt feel like a priority for Marvel anymore.

I love Kubert's art but that cover looks like something randomly chosen as the cover of a new slapdash collection of some random issues previously collected under their own volumes, now strung together to capitalize on some adaptation coming out. "X-Men: the 90s" or some shit. Marvel does that every so often lol.

Those covers are...bad. The faces of the women vs the men on the Kubert one, especially.🧐

I adore Leinil's work and style, normally, so might pick it up on that and Simone's talent alone.

Storm is back in that crappy 90s outfit as well?
Wait hold on that isn't Kwannon's outfit from the other previews.
