Woah! You gotta elaborate on that one buddy. The medium would ascend if we stopped caring about stories in video games.

I thought this was a pretty popular opinion, or has it swung back around?
I certainly enjoyed my time with it, loved the environments. It's a popular opinion in small communities like this one. Outside of the, I guess I'll call it Era bubble now, Infinite still has its praise.
I don't like The last of us or Horizon Zero Dawn. I found them a chore to play.

I mean, you like Dark Souls so that means you have taste in gameplay.
/Runs and hides even faster
Same.
Yeah I don't know enough about the technicals for myself to have noticed.

Chrono Trigger has empty towns and looks very dated which most sprites-looking games are. Like most whimsical stories, it hides behind that facade for its shortcoming.

I really tried to like it and fooled myself for the longest time, but yeah, it's a real mess. My biggest gripe is that the structure of randomly generated fields which feel messy. Also enemy AI isn't all that agressive but maybe that's changed as well. Overall its very uninspired imo.I really wish that I could disagree with you there, as a Phantasy Star fan. The overemphasis on freemium cosmetics and the absurdity of later episodes have really let the series go off into the deep end. I'm still holding out for a sequel that goes in a different direction in... 2020, at this point?
Do you remember 2012? The game was hyped to all hell. People (myself included) felt like AC3 was the true sequel to AC2. This was the next step forward in the series.- AC 3 was one of my favorite AC. The settings, the story, Connor, Jungle etc. I loved it and did not understand why everyone did not.
