I also have to add Kingdoms of Amalur. That game had such a great atmosphere... I got my 1000 on 360 with it and the fact that it had Everquest vibes made it even better.

It was just a fun as hell game, I am bummed how it went down for those guys

Umbrella Corps is a fantastic MP shooter. I can't believe how much people shit all over it yet it was priced low, had customization, fantastic soundtrack, wonderful level design, weapon balance, no lag or matchmaking issues, and above all else was fun.

To see 3/10s and crap was ridiculous and so unwarranted. I think if this game didn't have a thing to do with the RE universe it would've had success.

I think inFAMOUS: Second Son is one of the best gaming experiences. The game did receive mostly positive reception, but it's in my top ten all time.

I recently played through all of the game, and I will admit that my second time trying it proved to be a lot more enjoyable than the first. My first time it really overwhelmed me with all of the content that I could do, but limiting myself with this second playthrough in terms of what quests I did or what battles I fought, again, just made it a lot more enjoyable.

I am going to repost this from the odyssey thread. It seems the end of new donk city is one of the most beloved moments in gaming history, and well I don't think it is.

I do think the game is great, this happend me with zelda, there are certain aspects where I question why isn't this better and why is everyone not just ok with this but are praising it?

So this post will be about the last main mission in New Donk City which I was reading on this forum last night how it's one of the best moments of the game. So I was super excited to play it. Well I guess I expected more cause while the presentation was great the level itself was really basic.

I get the FEEL of the moment, the presentation is spectacular. The theme song is playing, you are recreating donkey kong. It's beautiful. But that's a disguise for another really simplistic, stupidly easy level. There is almost no challenge, a few barrels moving slowly, a few pits to jump over.

If this were a mario maker level it would be a throw away tutorial level.

Compare that to say this 2D level in Mario Galaxy 2.

https://youtu.be/HlwsNOM9i2o

Here we have a section with moving gravity. Sections where music hints at the switching of gravity and the player needs to have good timing to get through it all. Smart interesting design which leads to a fun semi challenging level.

That's what I look for in Mario games and I don't feel I am getting that much of it in Odyssey. Obviously it's a different kind of game, the worlds are very well designed with so much variety and ways to explore. But when it comes down to main levels they haven't been that great. This could change later on but I wanted to point this level out since it got so much praise, but clearly not because the actual level was any good, it was just tugging at nostalgia with good presentation.

Edit: I don't get how quote works but this is for Brandon.

Good to see you man, we agree on many things, except Skyward Sword but that's ok. :P

I love Second Son. I still haven't played the other games, but I thought Delsin was really funny and I enjoyed the DLC featuring Fetch. It was fun playing around with her neon powers.

I'd agree with this too, Second Son is a beautiful game and I found running around the world to be really fun, and the DLC with Fetch was great. It's definitely one of my favorite PS4 games.

A good video game is better than a good book, movie, show, song or theater act. Games are the best entertainment period.

StarHawk was a very good game that got shelved too quickly. I love the build a base elements to the combat.

Assassins Creed III is the best game of the series, and I actually liked Conor as a protagonist.

I have not played an exceptional Squaresoft/Square Enix JRPG since Chrono Cross. By exceptional I mean the story, characters, world/atmosphere, battle system, and music are firing on all cylinders. I think most games they have released since Chrono Cross has been average and I often have to force myself to finish them.

Pokemon games are rehashed and sold with no real thought to the story or overall gameplay. Turn-based combat is very out-dated and should only be used when you have a story driving the game forward. Pokemon is the epitome of boring game design and the one that I just managed to finish was Pokemon Diamond. Also the massive amounts of grinding one must do to continue can be described as UGGGGGH. If you're wondering I do own Moon and X for 3ds and managed to try multiple times to get through it but the boredom gets to me first.

On another note, I really enjoyed Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, even better than the original Borderlands.

I love you guys <3

Pokemon is what really got me into gaming and was my favorite franchise for two decade... but I pretty much agree with what you said. I only disagree with the turn-based portion as I still love turn based games. It's rather disappointing how few risks the series has taken

I've never been able to beat Majora's Mask and I really don't like the time system in it as someone who gets really nervous with time requirements and dead lines. Overall it's my least favorite Zelda, but I still return every few years to see if this will be the time it clicks for me. I appreciate it but I hate playing it.

The n64 controller was the worst pad I have ever used and completely ruined every game on the system for me. Mario, Zelda, Goldeneye, etc. Gave up on them all. To this day I have yet to complete Mario 64! I think I chucked it around 80 stars or something.

I love God of War: Ascension, fun single player campaign built with replay-ability in mind with a lot of small QoL improvements gameplay wise and I'd rank its multiplayer somewhere in my top 10 and definitely one of my favorite experiences on the PS3, even with the balance issues. I can't imagine how many I sunk into multiplayer. Overall, I would probably rank it as my favorite God of War game above Ghost of Sparda now.

The GTA series is like Madden in the fact that I can still feel the core mechanics in the latest version. Sure it has better graphics and more to do but I have yet to play one more the the original, GTA3. Sadly, yes I have bought every single one of them.

I love escort missions in most games.

Think tactically, know where your escort is at all times, identify threats to it and to yourself early. If it's a squad based game with AI you can order around, it gets even better!

I understand that the problem people have with it is usually the escort's AI being dumb and getting itself into trouble, but that only bothers me in extremely egregious cases

Nier: Automata was really boring to me. All this flashy spectacle in my face and all of it put me to sleep. Don't see what on earth people see in it.

343 industries makes horrible Halo games. They have been butchering the series for me. Both the campaign and the multiplayer. Halo 5's forge is amazing though.

Battlefield series needs to take a few steps back and emphasize teamwork in multiplayer through a complete overhaul of classes, objective play and scoring system. It also needs to create a ranking system like other games so you get to play with and against people of similar skill. I love Battlefield 1 but the series is becoming increasingly simplistic in terms of skill and strategy.

Elders Scrolls V Skyrim is one of the best games ever made. Yes the main story is bland, the decision making in the quests is limited, the combat is simplistic and clunky and the game is full of bugs and glitches. But there is a certain charm to the game that is indescribable. The world of Skyrim itself is the key attraction in the game. It's very immersive and I completely got sucked into it when I first played the game. One of the best experiences I had in gaming. I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed the Witcher 3. It feels outdated now though.

Naughty Dog games have the best storytelling in games period. I never truly enjoyed the stories in games like Halo, Mass Effect, Witcher 3 or really any other video games as much. It's not just the stories that are enjoyable themselves, it's also how they are presented and played out. Outstanding storytelling coupled with excellent level design and overall presentation makes their games some of the best in the industry.

Both the Last Of Us and Uncharted 4 have very satisfying combat. I have no idea why so many people think the combat in those games is lacking. The Last of Us was challenging and the gunplay was both difficult and impactful. Uncharted 4 was not difficult but the gunplay was even better and the level design was some of the best because it encouraged constant movement. The set pieces were a lot of fun. The mix of gunplay, movement and melee made the combat a lot of fun.

The lore in Souls series is more entertaining than the stories presented in most other games with the exception of Naughty Dog's games. The Soulsborne games also have some of the best artstyle in gaming. The artstyle alone makes them more aesthetically pleasing when compared to most other graphically superior games.

Portal 2 is highly overrated. It's an enjoyable puzzle game with some of the most interesting characters and entertaining dialogue in gaming but that's it. I find it very difficult to see how so many think it was 2011 GOTY or the GOAT.

Dragon's Dogma DA has really tight melee combat but everything else about the game is bland and boring. It's difficult to navigate it's lackluster and boring open world without proper guidance.

Platinum Games makes extremely ugly games. Both graphically and aesthetically. They are a complete eyesore. Very fluid, fast paced and deep combat systems though.

Legend of Zelda BOTW is by and far the greatest open world game ever created. It puts pretty much every other open world game to shame with the kind of polish and quality it shows in every aspect of the game. Truly a masterpiece. Witcher 3 doesn't even come close to being the open world game of the generation since Breath Of The Wild exists.

Uncharted The Lost Legacy is the second best Uncharted in the series (second to U2 of course).

The fanservice in Japanese games are amazing and I hope it never ends. Also, Japanese devs shouldn't consort with foreigners. Example would be Star Ocean 5.

Games are too violent. And when I say too violent I mean virtually every game centers around some kind of violence which makes it so commonplace and trite to make it boring. Especially with Nazis. I get it, Nazis are the lowest common denominator of evil but it's a lame excuse to make killing people okay.
