Someone is "old" because they dont follow what some dumb celebrity does?

I'm 31 and I dont know a good portion of the people this place freaks out over unless their a popular actor/actress, and I dont really care to know either.

I asked one time who someone was and why we should listen to them(I think it was an insider or something) and I got smacked with a warning for genuinely asking. I see those posts a lot as well and always shake my head out of bitterness when they weren't warned lol.

Now, I just bounce out. I don't know who Travis Scott is, nor do I care. That's how old I am.

I got warned for asking a legit question years ago about the Xbox refund policy. Don't feel too bad. lol

I am 32 and I barely know who this Travis Scott is except he somehow has his own burger at American McDonalds.

The shitty thing is knowing that I've been part of this community since the mid 2000s aka when OP and a lot of other posters were toddlers.

Is it me or are the boomers here are too darn proud of being boomers. So often when there is a thread about a celebrity doing something, we get posts of people asking who they are or in most cases acting proud to the fact they dont know them. Example would be the travis scot ps5 controller thread and the thread about the weekend. I just dont get it, has the participation of boomers increase due to them being sent home for their nursey homes?

Discuss.

You're on a message board. Message boards are barely more modern than Usenet.

Dude I'm millennial as fuck (35) and I'm pretty out of touch.

I don't think Gen Z actually knows what a Boomer is. It's not just "anyone older than me".

Exactly. I'm on the younger end of Gen X but my students think I'm a boomer, even though that's my parents' generation.

One thing I've noticed now that I'm in to middle age is that the provincialism of the old is matched only by the provincialism of the young.

We don't need threads that divide this community. If you're going to start complaining about specific age groups or "types" of people I've got news for you.

You're the problem.

It's not just age but the people here are contrarians. They were probably like this in their younger days too.

We talked about this near the end of the Travis Scott thread. That proud ignorance always rears it's ugly head when it's about Black culture or hip-hop.

Black Era has been noticing this trend.

Bonus points were people in that thread saying things to the effect of "I don't care about Trap artists" (Travis is not a Trap artist, hmmmmmm)
I think you're confusing some boomers for some white people.
Yepppp this is exactly it.

any time slang comes up too. I'll never forget the one guy who got angry over the word "tryna"

I never heard of Travis Scott, but that might also be a Europe vs America thing.

"Boomers"? Son, the Millennials start turning 40 next year. Gen X is in their mid-50s. There are no boomers here.

If I made a thread about the Tory Lanez/Meg the Stallion saga, half this board would think I'm speaking Latin.

lol consider this, most of the people here were already old when they had already spent close to half their lives on GAF, so imagine how old they are now.

free nerd cred if you pretend not to know famous people, but pretend to know some obscure Japanese game director from the 90s.

21 y/o here. I was born and raised on message boards and the mid-late 2000s internet, I feel at home amongst my soul-bretheren here.

OP is probably bitching about about Millennial's, the arch nemesis of Boomers.

No offense but not picking up that the general meaning of Boomer has shifted to just "old out of touch person" and not literally babyboomers is peak boomer. :P

Similar to how millenial just came to mean "someone younger than me who annoys me" regardless of actual birth date.

Announcing you dont know who someone is is a big ole lookitme attempt. Im 47 and if I dont know who someone is, I assume theyre a youtube personality and just move on.

So yes, its annoying to read but Im also not googling all of these people.

There are hardly any baby boomers here at all. Get off social media and the net and learn what "boomers" actually means. If you are calling Millenials (Gen Y really) and Gex Xers "boomers", then I got nothing for ya except:

Boomer doesn't mean literally Baby Boomer anymore.

But y'all would know that if ya weren't boomers.

Its hardly a big deal that everyone doesnt know who everybody is in the world of entertainment and celebrity.

In the grand scheme of things its not important at all.

I have no expectation that people should know all the things I like, or who is current in my life with regards to music / film / whatever.

Dismissing somebody as a boomer or anything else because they don't know the latest musician or slang is a bit shit to be honest.

Now something important, serious topic of discussion ...... I wouldnt derail with questions of whom ........ I would go and find out first as best I can.
