I'm pretty sure they're talking about the fact that you can't just with switch to third person when you want to, there are specific animations like scaling walls and I think some unique kill animations that switch to third person but otherwise you are in first person at all times.
*If I recall correctly*

But the first game would force you out of third person in specific situations so I can't say I personally care all that much.
They probably meant the fact that there's no third-person camera optoin anymore, aside from specific animations (dodging, mantling, some powers).

90% of the gameplay will be in first-preson. It's still very much an RPG though.
Yeah, I'm a dumdum, realized what they meant the second I clicked post lol.

I was mainly referring to these scenes in their 'gmod-ness'. Considering this character is feature prominently in promotional and box art... Also I never compared it to Injustice or the like? Notice how I said 'compared to the original 2004 game'? 16 years later, and this is what they've got to show for it?

I'm just genuinely not sure what you were expecting with a title like this. They're already pushing "best looking game in immersive sim RPG genre" territory.

It looks pretty good, I loved the various locations we saw. But I'm left wondering how much of it is actual gameplay footage.

Also, it's seems like a pretty boring guy as what I assume is the marketing protagonist

The E3 gameplay suffered from a similar problem - the player character looked pretty boring.

Such a great trailer, loved it. One of my most anticipated games right now. Seems fun and different enough from everything else.

How are you getting that the game is going "full fps"? Even the trailer in your quote basically showed tits and people getting murdered and Bloodlines 1 certainly wasn't a murder porn game lol. It would make 0 sense for them to revive a dead IP only to change the most beloved thing about it, AKA the narrative. Not to mention that prior to this trailer you can easily find a bunch of interviews where the people behind the game talk at length about the importance of building your character and how they're making sure the branching narrative is their #1 priority. They aren't making an fps.

EDIT: oops, you were talking about how the lack of a toggle between first/third person, my bad. Still the third person mode was basically only for combat which is definitely not Bloodlines 1's strong suit so I doubt there's anything to lose with them keeping it firmly in first person now.
sorry I meant first person perspective...

I am sure they are pumping on all cylinders to nail the RPG aspect with branching storyline and quests, its just the thing that hooked me into VtMB initially was the exploration, atmosphere and OST, which seems to be side tracked a bit. This time around the location of Seattle may be the reason but idk everything seems toned down by a lot. Maybe the marketing is meant to be more PG and the actual game might be different. This trailer just threw me off compared to their previous media thats all I'm sayin.

The reveal CG trailer on the other hand had this VtMB vibe goin but its not translating well to gameplay so far.
I already have the blood moon edition ready to go so hoping they don't pull their punches.

That wouldn't be the protag, b/c you get turned in a mass embrace event, and one of the faction NPCs (which is what that girl is) wouldn't be the one doing the turning.

That's a random bloodbag for our Tremere girl to turn into a snak.

That said, I have to wonder if Mr Damp is a low humanity Malk *or* a Toreador.

He's just some rando who gets his blood sipped in a club as part of the mini narrative of the trailer

I don't get the comments of the game looking rough.. are you all comparing now every single game to the 1% of the games with the highest budgets ? I'm playing right now RDR2 and yeah, it has great graphics and animations, but it still has some jank there and that's probably right now the game with the highest budget made
I don't see any bad animations or graphics here, in fact I'm pretty impressed by the graphics and the animations look totally fine .. graphic style looks pretty similiar to the first game, which is fantastic.. I know that the music is going to be different now because of the time and setting of the game, but hopefully there are going to be some nice gothic atmosphere there thanks to some licensed music and the game's own OST
Not the best trailer, but nice improvements there to see none the less

man those "happy music but dark imagery" trailers are so overplayed.
also the trailer felt too much like it was trying to be fallout or outer worlds or something. i don't know like "look guys we're vampires and we do dark stuff but we're also kinda wacky lol"

bloodlines had a completly different tone

Found myself feeling the same. The music they picked sounds like its straight out of fallout 3. I hope they don't just turn it into a bio-shock clone.

The music from the original had a lot of intensity or creepiness to it.

Kind of get the impression from this thread, that people who have played the original don't care for the trailer, whereas people how haven't love it.

Oh thanks, that's good to know. The cut to first-person after the bite made me think that this was the default character the marketing would have the uninvited think they would have to play.

Considering how unique each faction character in the original bloodlines looked, the guy just looked underwhelming. I'm hoping for some cool outfits and designs for sure!

They picked the song to build a specific mood for a single trailer being concerned about that seems silly to me but whatev

It looks like unwashed ass at times. There's no denying. Animations are rough, texture work is iffy, there are obvious CGI segments mixed with what appear to be real time or off-line render scenes using in-game assets. Some vampiric disciplines look *horrendous*. It's messy. But there's still time to improve.

I think it may be a bad trailer in that it's trying to reach to a new audience while making some inside jokes, dancing being one of them (OG Bloodlines was kind of famous for its silly dances at the goth club). People new to the franchise won't get the jokes or think it's a straight brawler, while fans who aren't really up to date with the sequel may think that the game's dialogue heavy design has been trashed. If you are a total dork, you may be happy with it. If you are not... it's honestly not the best trailer to get a first look at the game.

As far as the music goes, Rik Schaffer is back. And we know the main theme sounds pretty damn cool.

This was just the trailer trying to be jocular and maybe failing at it.

I just don't get why people are acting like this musical choice has anything to do with the OST we all know how marketing material works.

Brass facts: If you already knew this game existed you weren't the primary target for this particular piece of advertisement and that should be fine.

Yeah it was my mistake, I misunderstood you. I think that the cultural climate these two games are released in is an interesting topic. I fully expect Bloodlines 2 to be more sensitive than the first game when exploring the dark and edgy themes prevalent in the WoD universe, but I think that that may as well be a good thing? Bloodlines 1 already exists as a microcosm of the period it was released in all of its janky unfinished glory so it may be a good approach to let Bloodlines 2 also be its own thing.

Having these games take place in a contemporary setting relative to the time they're released in could mean that we see the exploration of the same dark themes through different lenses and that to me has the potential of being really fascinating when comparing the two. What I mean to say is that maybe we shouldn't see the 2000s gothic atmosphere of the first game as a defining trait of the Vampire: The Masquerade setting that all future games should adhere to. Bloodlines 2 could greatly benefit of being a game of its time like the first one was.

And I wouldn't look to this trailer as something representative of the game, it was obviously made just for this occasion and is suitably flashy for a cinematic trailer (though it still looks janky af, so at least they're getting that part of the first game right lol).

Ah that is good to hear. The soundtrack is really helped the original nail its atmosphere.

It looked rough around the edges in the cutscenes made for this trailer, made for a bit of a weird disconnect with the gameplay segments. Overall though, great trailer and definitely one I want to play.

My friends thought at first this was a Joker game. Another one thought it was Bioshock or We Happy Few. The "comedic" serial murder didn't jive well to them.

The trailer fits with the universe imo, I played the original, it's one of my favorites RPGs of all time. The sequel looks glorious.

Still cautiously optimistic this but lord did that trailer fall flat. Characters, animation and cinematography were incredibly weak.

Production values aren't that insane, but I'm digging the atmosphere and everything. I really, really hope the gameplay is fun, I so need a new vampire RPG.

It looks great, and plenty good enough visually during the gameplay segments, but I don't think it's the best idea to put dancing front and center when your animation doesn't have the absurd budget to keep up with tip of the spear expectations

Although, trailer was almost certainly blocked out pre-COVID

The dancing is supposed to be bad, though. That's kind of the point.

Looks like Mankind Divided/Human Revolution with a vampire theme, amazing atmosphere and even better gameplay than the new Deus EX games

So obviously this is my most antecipated game right now

It also helps that the team behind the story for this game is great

I loved Bloodlines in the day and purchased/pre ordered Bloodline 2 on Steam as soon as it popped up, have no regrets. So can't wait, I don't expect it to be the prettiest game out there but I have faith it will be worth it.

Gameplay looks great though, I really can't wait to play!

This game needs all the time in the oven. Heres hoping for 2021 so they get time to polish, wouldnt want a repeat of the original game's launch.

Yeah, I don't really mind the graphics not being on par with more standard AAA stuff, It's basically an immersive sim/rpg so it's almost always going to take a hit compared to games with less scope/depth.

How did we ever enjoy video games, and RPGs for that matter, before realistic life like graphics?

I never actually commented on the trailer.

This is probably one of my more hyped games coming out. I don't mind jank as long as the game is fun and interesting and that looks to be the case here for me.
