I might be misunderstanding what's changed with Destiny 2, but couldn't he have actually done this at any point over the past six months or so? His new Stadia account will include a free trial of Pro. 🤔

He's referring to how anyone can play Destiny 2 for free on Stadia now. No Stadia Pro subscription is needed, you don't have to buy the game, just log in with you Gmail account and start playing for as long as you want.

Ok so I think the "as long as you want" is the actual change here? But anybody could have signed up for a Stadia account and started playing Destiny 2 for free.

It's no big deal. It's good to finally see some positivity about the service.

No, before you needed to have a Stadia Pro account before you could play Destiny 2.

Its for sure better than the ps4 one.
Not sure about ps5 one... however ps5 has still that broken dpad, so thats already a thing which is better at stadia as well.

Keep in mind that the stadia controller connect directly through wifi with the stadia server while other controller would work through bluetooth which all input command has to be transferred through the app. So while i had not an issue with those bluetooth ones, the stadia controller is the one that provides the lowest latancy.

I can attest that I never tried Stadia until the Immortals demo in October despite being interested and aware of the free month, because (a) I didn't want to burn my month of Pro on something that may or may not work well on my setup, and (b) I was interested in the 1080p performance of Stadia Base and wasn't interested in Pro in the first place.

Nobody wants to say, "Whoops, claimed a free month of Pro and it's a total bust." The trial model made no sense—especially for those are hedging on spending on à-la-carte software until they are confident it will work.

Thankfully, free-to-play Destiny 2 was the perfect fix. I now confirmed two things: (a) that, as I suspected, I have no interest in it whatsoever as a game, and (b) that doesn't matter, because it's a brilliant technical showcase and I now have a lot of interest in Stadia as a platform after test-driving it and finding a place for it in my setup (displays, controller configurations, multitasking in my browser windows, the list goes on).

For a service like this, it's critical to have some kind of live testing environment where you can see what performance and latency are like at home, and play around all you like with the setup.

I hadn't been following CP2077 at all over the past few years (despite a lot of interest in games like Deus Ex) because I expected it would be something I try in a few years after a big new PC build, maybe. Within the span of a day I've now come completely aboard, especially now that I've found out how fluidly Stadia accommodates swapping on the fly between KB+M and my Nintendo-mapped controllers, how well it clicks with my multi-monitor environment, how it handles pausing/suspending (or suddenly disconnecting)—all the little things one takes for granted about a PC experience.

This wouldn't have happened without a no-risk test environment that gave me unlimited room to fool around with my tech, collect information on my data usage, and set expectations for how things run if I'm not active with Pro or let it lapse. And ironically, it may have nudged me towards burning my free month anyway as soon as the software on the Pro rotation is appealing enough for me to claim.

Free Destiny 2 didn't sell me at all on anything Destiny 2, but it certainly sold me hard on Cyberpunk.

I like it better than PS4 and it's comparable to Xbox (my personal opinion of course). D-pad is nice and clicky! It's got an internal battery which unfortunately isn't the longest lasting. It lasts around 10ish hours on a full charge (I think the fact that it uses WiFi is the biggest power draw) however it does have USB-C so it charges relatively quickly. It has a 3.5mm jack for headsets and also supports USB-C headsets as well. It also has a capture button (single press for screenshot, long press for 30 second clip). It also has a microphone and a button to enable Google assistant. You won't be ordering pizzas but it can do simple tasks. One underrated future is that you can use it to instantly launch another game without having to exit your current one (i.e. press the button then say "Launch Far Cry 5"). It works incredibly well! Mine's over a year old now and is still going strong.

I just got my Luna invite and every experience with it has been really impressive, to the point that I had to jump back to Stadia games to compare. I think I've got a bad example to use since AC Odyssey doesn't perform well anyway, but all I can say is streaming in general is so rock solid now. Such a bright future.

Google would be smart to keep hammering away with stuff like free Destiny 2 and instant game trials. The Cyberpunk offer is crazy too, feels like they're making the right moves besides actually having a better selection.

Tomorrow's Tuesday and not only that but it's the last Tuesday of the month. This is usually when they do their news drops and also announce the free Pro games for next month. We already know that Fallen Order is releasing tomorrow. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a "Black Friday" sale announced tomorrow.

Edit: I wonder if we'll also hear more about Ubisoft Connect. They said that it would start by the end of the year and with the string of holidays coming up (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years) they really don't have a large window left.

Oooh, tempting to pick up Avengers at that price. Even with a dead multiplayer, it sounds like there is enough single-player content to make it worthwhile.

I guess it depends what else hits tonight.

Yeah, assistant didn't work at launch but they enabled it to do simple tasks a while back. It can do things like tell you the weather but the only thing I really use it for is to launch another game. Google's voice recognition is top notch so it works incredibly well!

If one purchase let me play Avengers coop on two screens, I would buy it on Stadia. That goes for like any coop game if any publishers are listening.

Agreed. It needs some USP's alongside the streaming service to excite gamers again. I've recently purchase a Series X but Stadia still has the ability to excite me if they can follow through on some of their pitches from last year.

Fantastic introductory price on Fallen Order. I was crossing my fingers for 50% at the most optimistic, and they cleared that bar. Just need to hear a word about performance and I'm ready to jump in on my first full purchase on the platform (and probably snagging RDR2 while I'm at it).

So I've been completely out of the loop on Stadia but lately the appeal of something that is simple, instant and essentially pick-up-and-play is very appealing to me.

Is it worth exploring the Stadia Premiere edition? Is the controller/using Chromecast a better experience?

I got a free one earlier.
It's pretty much the same as using Chrome plus a controller.

Definitely try the trial with that first. Lag isn't going to be better with the Chromecast and controller.

Okay perfect - that's what I was wondering. I'll try it out tonight and can always hop on board with the extra stuff if it seems to work well.

Hmmmmmm, it seems to be the popular opinion that the Stadia controller provides the best experience. That's what I seem to find as well compared to a Bluetooth controller. It's definitely playable with a Bluetooth controller but the Stadia controller connects directly to WiFi and sends the commands straight to Google's servers. It just feels a bit more responsive to me.

My problem is that I don't really want to go all-in if my internet isn't the greatest for it. I should be able to differentiate between input lag and network lag, but we'll see...

Yeah, definitely try it out before buying a Stadia controller. If it works great for you and you don't mind waiting then they're actually running a promotion until December 18th where if you pre-order Cyberpunk 2077 then you get a free Stadia Premier kit. That's the game plus kit for $59.99. I say "waiting a bit" because you probably won't get the free kit until sometime in January (they're not sending the codes out until the game releases). It seems though that most people (and from my experience as well) feel that the controller provides a better experience than a Bluetooth one due to the tiny bit of time saved since it's connected directly to WiFi.

I'd skip the pro trial to begin with. Just sign up without the trial and try the F2P version of Destiny 2. That should give you an indication of how well it works on your network.

People on the Reddit are saying that Fallen Order is 60 FPS but I haven't seen anyone do a technical analysis to confirm. I'm tempted to buy it since it's reduced so low. The thing is I already own it on Series X and just started recently playing it. Might just sell my physical copy so I can have a copy in the cloud wherever I go. For comparison PS4 Pro and One X run the game in either quality mode (capped at 30 FPS) or performance mode (uncapped, usually stays between 40 to 60 FPS). The next gen consoles seem hold a steady 60 FPS.

Here's a stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiA0XFpXXI8

It's hard to tell the fps over the stream though. The streamer said it's 60fps

I can send you a referral code if you want. It will give you two free months of Stadia Pro, during which you will be able to claim any games that are still included with the Pro subscription. I think there are 31 games available to claim right now.

Same goes for anyone else on here. Shoot me a PM and I will gladly give you a referral link.

I definitely would appreciate that! Seems like an easy way to test the waters.

What a shame. Really enjoyed the first hour of Watch Dogs Legion on Stadia. Yet, I just refunded the game because of performance issues which aren't on my end of the television. FPS dropping below 20 simply isn't acceptable. Might wait for a patched/improved version, get the game for PS5 instead or going to get for GeForce Now - yet I don't know anything about it's performance on GeForce now.
GeForce Now is fundamentally different from Stadia. You are essentially playing the PC version on high-end hardware.

I can't speak for Watch Dogs, but my experience so far with a number of games has been this: Ultra settings, no compromises, 1080p60 locked.

Seriously, seriously impressive. Plus the latency and image quality has been FAR better than anything I experienced on Stadia. It has saved the release of Cyberpunk 2077 for me, as I only have access to potato hardware at the moment. 1080p60 with RTX/DLSS here we go.

I'd say take avengers off that list and wait for to go way cheaper than that. still a broken mess.

Had the value card already and with the new sale got Shadow of the Tomb Raider for about 3 bucks. Nice, been waiting for a way to play it. Nice warm-up to playing Cyberpunk on Stadia (got the deal with the free chromecast and controller).
