Thank you both.
I mean, the Wii U has a Netflix app.
The PS Vita has a Netflix app.
They have a Hulu app, though, so there's clearly more to it than that
You know, I need to get into Plex. I have a bunch of Blu-rays laying around that I rather not look at anymore. I should invest in a Blu-ray drive.Yeah, Netflix would be nice. YouTube would be nice too. But do you know what I want more than both of those combined? PLEX. Let me stream my existing media library to the device! That would bring the Switch to "neat media device" to "my favourite media device."
He started as a Nintendo sales guy, so you know he will never miss a beat.
Netflix was on Wii, WiiU and 3DS.Company that is an absolute shitshow regarding online services blames media empire for lack of app.
Yeah, that reads as believable.

My best guess is that probably Nintendo wants usage data from the app (either aggregate or individual level) and that Netflix isn't willing to give it up.They have a Hulu app, though, so there's clearly more to it than that
Given Hulu and Nico already are in the platform, ill wager Netflix is the one shifting blameBut didn't Netflix say it was in Nintendos court and I'm more inclined to believe them to be honest.
yeah but where is Crunchyroll?Given Hulu and Nico already are in the platform, ill wager Netflix is the one shifting blame
Bloody 3DS had netflixOnly thing I can think of is this:
Netflix: Pay us for an app.
Nintendo: Blow me.
Is there any precedent to think Nintendo would have to pay Netflix for them to release an app on their system?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees how absurd this "Nintendo's fault" narrative seems.Netflix was on Wii, WiiU and 3DS.
Hulu, NicoNico are on Switch....if Reggie says they are open to Netflix on Switch, Netflix has to deliver.
Reggie isnt crazy enough for such a statement if they were the ones blocking Netflix from releasing the app at this point. Doesnt make any sense.
In the hottesr weeb console PS4?
So many apps are still missing from the Switch and Nintendo is completely blameless simply because "well they got Hulu".I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees how absurd this "Nintendo's fault" narrative seems.
It's because they will have people defending Nintendo regarding no streaming apps even if it would make the Switch better. They should have more streaming apps on the Switch, I feel it is something that Nintendo doesn't want at the moment.Yeah agreed. This is probably the weirdest thing about the Switch overall... why is Nintendo being so cagey about simple things like streaming apps?
What's absurd is the Nintendo is blameless mentality.I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees how absurd this "Nintendo's fault" narrative seems.
"Blameless", no. As I said, it's clear that they had a games-only stance early on, and they're to blame for that, but things have changed. It's possible they never reached out to Netflix, but I doubt they've turned Netflix down.
But didn't Netflix say it was in Nintendos court and I'm more inclined to believe them to be honest.
Likely means they simply can't come to an agreement (for now). Not unusual really. Unless we know the terms of the discussion, hard to say who might or might not be to blame.Netflix: ask Nintendo
Nintendo: ask Netflix
and the cycle continue

Netflix wanted and assumed Nintendo would help pay for the development of the app. Nintendo is not interested in paying them so Netflix would have to fund the development themselves.
You are literally making that up.You're aware companies change policies?
Netflix not being on Switch is probably due to Netflix noticing the 3DS app wasn't particularly successfull, guys.
I know they have their phones and such for everything else but a decently powered device you can take anywhere not being able to have youtube or netflix will turn away the non hardcore.
Or Netflix is asking too much money for supporting their platform?

Nintendo could benefit a lot from knowing precisely what people are watching on the Switch, and use that info to either inform their own dev teams or to court third-parties, and obviously that data is one of Netflix's most precious commodities.
