because those other artists didn't shit on the art form they're reaping money and rewards from and throwing other contemporary artists under the bus.

This seems to be a fundamental either misunderstanding or completely ignoring the point that Post Malone has proven time and time again that he doesn't actually give a fuck about hip-hop. he doesn't give a fuck about the culture, the people who created it and the language he adopted to make himself millions of dollars. he's using the imagery of black artists, a lot of whom will never be able to leave their regional fame or lack thereof while he copies their style (pathetically) and takes in millions of dollars and adoring fans while completely half assing "the work" he does. this isn't undeserved by any regards. he deserves all of the hate and vitriol he gets because he's a theif. plain and simple. other pop artists do their own thing and are completely vanilla earworm music. he isn't that.

You mark my words now. It may not be a year from now, two or five, but in the future he will take his millions of dollars, get lazer surgery to remove his face tattoo's and denounce his "wild and crazy 20's" as just a phase when he steps into the realm of country and abandons one spotlight for another.

Don't forget his "equality's gotta go both ways" line when questioned about BLM and cultural appropriation.

He and the other SoundCloud rappers feel like the modern version of late 90s/early 00s rap/rock. Like the kind of shit people are going to he embarrassed to admit they listened to in 5-10 years.

Well, I liked his Spider-Man track, but I don't know anything else about him. He's that popular in North America? I mean, to get a article like that...

They're right though. His bland and generic tracks combined with his tatted up PBR spokesman look are worthy of all the earth's eyes rolling in unison.

I feel like most of the hate Post Malone get's is because

1. He looks like he doesn't shower
2. He's just another sound cloud rapper but he hit it big, most likely because he's white, let's be real
3. But for a lot of people it's prob because of the comment he made about rap not being able to convey emotion or something. So he gets the culture vulture label, which he might be, probably. Among other dumbass things he's said, like "our votes don't matter", but I'm sure that's a lot of dumbass early 20 somethings.

Just know that in five years, no ones gonna give a shit who he is, for better or for worse, so theres no point getting mad about it. There are thousands of shitty millionaires in the world, don't see a reason to hate on him over anyone else.

I've legit only heard 3 songs from him, white iverson, rockstar or whatever, and that spiderman song. I actually like the spiderman song a lot, but if you didn't tell me it was Post Malone on it I wouldn't of known, you could of subbed him out for anyone and it wouldn't of mattered.

He's made some good tracks and some pretty trash and vapid ones that are ultra catchy, so much of this criticism falls flat.

Also, some of the article is weak as fuck but trying to make up for it by using bigger words. "He has nothing happening in his cerebral cortex" = "his brain is poopy lol".

He's not an amazing artist, but he's not the worst. He probably wouldn't catch so much heat if he didn't shit on the genre he makes his money from.

Bunch of old heads talking about respecting the past and the craft, like it's an actual entity. Yet I bet they're the same people who shit on those that talk about needing to respect the anthem and America. Naw bruh, unless I missed something about him actively shitting on hip hop culture, I couldn't give two fucks.

I'm sure his songs will get more listens today than that article gets full reads.

Get over it he's popular, famous and rich. If you don't like it ignore him.

Didn't he also just get his own signature Crocs? That should annoy some of you as well. Go rage!

Comes across as hoping somebody remembers his name two minutes after they are done with the article.

I hear some of my kids friends saying "you are a try hard" and now I understand. Though, In their context it is in online video games.
lol exactly! so try hard and sweaty.

Go do something productive! For example, use this article to showcase a newcomer to a scene. Instead, he chose to think about how many times can I insult Post Malone..? So lazy and unproductive.

These pretentious yuppie music writers are so cheesy.

Does your first post in this thread which was solely about how much you don't care about the topic count as try hard?

So, this article is treating Post like he's a rapper? Cus that's pretty fucking silly thing to do. Among the other attacks in this article that sincerely make me laugh given his peers.

lol I don't care about Post Malone. Insert any artist in the article and it wouldn't make a difference to me. It's the "elitetism" in music that I cannot stand for. I work in a music shop and I hear the same shit everyday. All these 30+ year old "heads" do is shit on things. No one is positive and they spend more time saying how "it's not like it used to be", instead of maybe uncovering cool new music and being productive about their knowledge. It's such old guy cheese. So stale.

I sometimes just fire this thing up on Spotify to laugh at how poorly it aged. It's just complete garbage aside from the weirdly decent Everlast/Mobb Deep thing

It's that fucking theremin that gets it over the line.

Everlast changing the lyric to "official white folk murderers" will never fail to make me roll my eyes.

Yeah, that was a weird choice. I guess I just appreciate Everlast for trying something that isn't just adding fucking down tuned distorted guitars to everything.

Post always reminds me of someone who wanted to become a rockstar but everyone wanna be a rapper and it's easy money. I don't listen to him outside of if I hear his music in some store.

I think the writer was mocking him for being distilled marketing/commercialism, on a level even more blatant than what we're already used to. Like he originally came up as a guitarist, but ended up writing the blandest pop/rap music that was spit out of a money-making algorithm.

I had no idea who most of the people mentioned in this thread are, but after doing some research I feel like hip-hop is now dead and we are just waiting for its bastard son to show his face. That Jackie Chan song from Post Malone is one of the reasons I now drive in silence when I'm too lazy to turn on Bluetooth.

"If you're looking for lyrics, if you're looking to cry, if you're looking to think about life, don't listen to hip-hop," Malone said at around the 7:20 mark. "There's great hip-hop songs where they talk about life and they really spit that real shit, but right now, there's not a lot of people talking about real shit."

This is the full quote, people tend to leave the second part out.

How is that the same at all? You can disagree with the opinion I guess. But you're(or people in general when they bring up the half quote) purposefully ignoring the following sentence for context and blanket him as just disrespecting hip hop.

But...there are a lot of current rappers that do spit real shit.

Sure... but like, is this "hot off the press" information? Who cares, it's Post Malone. It sucks, we get it. Use this column to share new music and showcase some undiscovered talent. He spent all this time coming up with "clever" insults and nothing informative was gained from this article. Go spend that time and effort looking for new music! Why even bother?? Jeff Weiss, go listen to Illmatic for the millionth time and fuck off with your prentension.
