I'm sure Pedro can also grow out his beard.
All these fan castings are always based around photos where the actor had the same hairstyle as the character or something like that, but actors can change those you know.

I mean, they also don't really have to as well.

The only thing that matters is if Pascal can play like, a basic gruff antihero, and yes, he can. Beard ain't that important.

I mean yeah, that is even more important.
i just meant in the context of "That guy would have looked much more like the character".
it all depends on how they adapt it, maybe they will even go for something else and a different look makes more sense for character.
Who knows.
Atleast Mandalorian showed that Pedro is good at playing a character that go pushed into the father figure role and we don't even see his face there 99% of the time.

Honestly getting a GoT actor who'se also the Mandalorian actor, etc... is good. This is about reaching a new audience and not necessarily just for "gamers".
Can't wait to see how the show will affect TLOU's numbers tbh.

The game is already Sony's 1st game ever to surpass 20M copies...
True the Netflix series gave really big boost to Witcher games too (mainly third) and it's even older game than say Last of Us 2 is. When we already thought that Witcher 3 had found it's audience with it's great sales, the Netflix show brought a lot of newcomers to the franchise. No doubt this show will benefit the game too.

They're really makin' this thing happen..!! On the fence I still sit, and though neither of these two casting choices do much for me, they are really not at fault. All a tissuebox can wait for is a visual, a trailer of images on the move with the thump of some all-baring instrumental, to see if this will have the gleaning to span beyond being just another good post-apocalyptic yarn. Another father-daughter tale. Another Joel and Ellie. All the good goings to Pedro and Bella.

He was incredible in Prospect and the character he played was quite similar to Joel in the first game.
Plus he's Chilean so I couldn't be more happy

Nice, good for him.

I'm liking him a lot in narcos, watching the series now and he's a standout.

Just need to get him up and stick a fake beard on him for the extra Joel factor.

Casting for this show seems legit. But more broadly... do we really need a tv series for TLOU?

Nice. Now we need:
Diego Luna - Tommy.
David Harbour - Bill.
Sonequa Martin Green (Sasha in TWD) - Marlene.
Jerome Fynn (Bronn in GOT) - David

Is this even an ongoing show?
Could have sworn I read somewhere it's like Watchmen.
That would suck. As much as I love HBO, I kinda hate that their shows are becoming more and more a one season type deal.

I was down with Ali, but can't get mad at Pedro.

Hopefully he acts his ass off.

Wacthmen was supposed to continue, but HBO cancelled it after creator bowed out. When they make mini-series they're quite clear about it, so if they cancel a regular series early it's usually for a very specific reason.

In fact, I can't remember a series they've cancelled in the first season aside from Luck which was inevitable.

I've always been of the opinion we didn't.

It's not that they can't make a great TV show, or great movie based off of the IP. It's just that The Last of Us as a video game is anything but an interesting premise; the game is all the wrong ingredients cooked miraculously well. A 'zombie' game, an escort game, a paternal-instinct commodifier.

And yet, what it ended up doing was work those elements into a narrative of supreme care, restraint, precision. It was a watermark. It was an achievement corded to the technical craftsmanship of the developers; not of the concept, beyond the character-driven focus serving as its conceptual foundation.

Of all things to adapt, TLOU is one of those that I feel doesn't need one, since it's of such a tried and true genre at this point that, even were it good, it would be good in a story archetype that I feel has been beaten to death and needs no resuscitation until it is ready.

But y'now. Like westerns and wuxias, ragtag post-apocalyptic zombie movies ain't flyin' anywhere. ;P

And hey, people love Joel and Ellie. At this time, why not spread the love.

Anyhooha, that's a discussion for another thread!!

I'm not that interested in this show because I've already played the game and I didn't think the story was that good, but I'd be lying if I said having Pascal here doesn't make me more interested.

Fantastic pick and super happy for Pedro. He's on a winning streak lately.

Much better that they drag a series on and on and all major characters have plot armour because the script is being dictated by contracts and marketability of the stars? Nah.

Limited series like Watchmen are the sweet spot. You get the long-form storytelling that you can't do with a movie, while being unburdened by the churn of a continuing series. You have the freedom to do whatever you want and don't end up running the series into the ground.

Honestly I think there's a lot in the world that ND created that can be mined and explored beyond the basic game narrative. I'd love to see some more development for the likes of Marlene, Henry & Sam or Bill. You could have a great episode based around Bill with little actual dialogue just showing how he lives his life.

Hell, you could start the episode showing his partner killing themselves in a cold opening without explaining who it is and then end it with Bill finding them hanging. Yes it's a change from the game's narrative but there's no point doing it if you're going to slavishly follow the game's plot.

I mean there is also the case that the actor is great as well not just looks like him in that photo.

Pedro is cool, I'm happy for him, does not seem like a Joel to me but considering he will probably be
dead by season 2 and will be this shows Ned Stark
I'm curious to see where it will go.
