Anyone ever used the steam backup feature? How does it work? If I store a game on a cd for example and want to install it from there, how does that work?

You'll want to install a widescreen fix, but other than that it should run just fine.

It's a much worse game than the first one, however. They doubled down on the noir stereotypes even further (and the femme fatale especially; weird choice considering how heavily invested the narrative was in Max's family at that point), pushing it from fun but skillful pastiche to just checking off genre surface trademarks. It's to noir what Alan Wake is to Twin Peaks or Stephen King, and it probably shares more DNA with Wake than the first Payne game.

Level and mission design got more complex (to its own detriment), too. The light platforming and added verticality doesn't work at all with the weightlessness of the player character, and the best part of Max Payne — tracing the events of a firefight through bullet holes and broken up furniture — doesn't really come into play anymore.
Oh, and be sure to prepare mentally for the awful escort mission. The game's not all bad, but I think it built on the first game in all the wrong ways. They upped the interactivity and reactivity of the environment, so that's nice.

I've just started playing the 3rd one and you can tell it's written by other people entirely (for good and bad), and the style is more Tony Scott fever dream than anything else. I'm curious to see where they take it, altough the incessant gameplay interruptions have already started to grate on me, heh.
Honestly, that's one of the least annoying escort missions out there. Max shoots back, and it's essentially a sniping challenge- but also with Bullet-time.

I feel pretty terrible though.

Detective Winterson was a single mother raising a blind son. It doesn't get more tragic than that

Okay, (extra spoiler)
so she made a bad choice in partners. But when I eventually kill Vlad, that kid is gonna become an orphan
that's still harsh.

At least "Lords and Ladies" is as thrilling as ever.

I believe Steam backup the game files into a folder. And you can restore game by selecting the folder where it was backed up to from the Steam UI.
I'd recommend using a USB drive over a cd though.

Where in the steam ui do you go to restore? Also how come you recommend using a usb drive over a cd?
Click "Steam" in the menu bar and choose "Backup and Restore Games".

You can also move the game folder instead if you don't want to be bothered with backuping and restoring games. I find this method much simpler and faster.

If you back up a game's installation folder (SteamApps\common\[install dir]) and the associated manifest file (SteamApps\appmanifest_appID.acf), you can "reinstall" it without having to sit through the file verification process, which can save you a fair amount of time. If you have the space, it's best to just back up the entire SteamApps folder (and the userdata folder), but if you need to pick and choose, you can find a game's app ID by searching for it on SteamDB.

Depending on what games you're backing up, game sizes can be from a gigabyte to 50+ GB... CDs max out at 700MB and dual layer DVDs at 8GB so you need a lot of them.

A usb drive will be a lot faster than optical media and comes larger capacities.

I think they are great devs but they really went about monetizing dirty bomb all wrong with the cosmetics being tied to loadouts/cards.

Funny how the devs of the other FPS I played a lot of in 2010s that went also largely unnoticed was blacklight retribution (before they screwed the game) is working on the bloodlines 2 game.
Thinking of great MP shooter the devs killed because of greed:
Super MNC + Tribes Ascend.
I enjoyed both so much - both horribly mismanaged.

And Team Fortress 2 :P

Oh, you've still got some ways to go. I had to reload and run circles through that level when the one you're escorting got stuck on physical objects. You'll know it when you see it!

I decided I would slowly start plugging away at Doom Eternal again. Still can't believe someone looked at 2016 and thought that what it really needed was more platforming.

The platforming is definitely a questionable new feature they put in. Doesn't add anything to the game and is either brain dead easy or just plain annoying. It's con in how it's built as well, it's not like they used it to show off their great level design either.

I just want this xCloud stuff to be available on PC and be able to play all Xbox games with Game Pass or something like that.

I hope they'll port Halo 5. Makes no sense to have the MCC and Infinite on PC, but have one game in between missing.

that's the kind of sequence breaking that drives my story completionist OCD up the wall.

It's nice to see that they're finally getting Assassin's Creed right after all these years. I've always thought it was one of the most overrated franchises in gaming but the last two installments have been very good. Aside from the paid loot microtransactions of course which are just plain stupid and cheapens the game a tiny bit.
I agree. Hated AssCreed before Origins, but I've enjoyed the last two quite a bit. Dear gods they are bloated though. Wish they'd trim them and go with quality over quantity, but I fear the next one will just have even more bloat...

Is Gears Tactics out yet?
I cannot find it on the Gamepass app and when I search for it the program crashes.

Edit: Okay, it worked via the Windows Store

Playing Jedi Academy, liking it a lot more than JK2. Level design doesn't feel as obtuse, it's neat you get a semi-customizable character. The Tremors level was pretty cool, not something I'd expect from a Star Wars game. Train level made me wish we got a Star Wars game with Uncharted-level fidelity.

Also there's an effect when it's raining and the rain hits your light saber and it sizzles that I'm in love with for some reason??

2 is a classic YOU CHANGE YOUR BAD VIDEO GAME OPINIONS THIS INSTANT

2 and Brotherhood are phenomenal. I liked Revelations though it was a step down from them.

I liked Origins because Bayek was a great character but I was tired by the end of the game and just wanted to finish it. Part of the reason I've not bought Odyssey.

More bloat, more boat.
I hate the boat parts in AC. Never understood the praise it got in Black Flag.
At least, these parts were contained in Egypt...

Origins was the final nail for me. That was finally the moment where I either liked AC after years of trying, or I didn't and I should just stop bothering. 10 hours of it was enough for me and I just felt exhausted by it.
