Gears 4 sets up the storyline for Gears 5. You can start at Gears 4.Man I wonder if I could play this without playing the earlier games. Those never really clicked with me, but this could be worth a try, what with the new approach and all.

Eh that's a way too high of a bar to reach, but a 85 metacritic first party game that is not Forza Horizon would be an amazing start for Xbox's output. It's sounding more and more like Xbox finally has it's Last of Us/God of War for this gen.
Gears 4 was literally 84... I mean close enough haha...Eh that's a way too high of a bar to reach, but a 85 metacritic first party game that is not Forza Horizon would be an amazing start for Xbox's output.
if they do I will cryThey're gonna do a Mad Max: Fury Road drive/glide into a violent lightning dust storm, aren't they?

"We have some ray-traced shadows as part of our lighting techniques. In our maps, the shadows that are further away are ray-traced, whereas closer up they're cascaded shadow maps, so they're fully dynamic. That really allows us to have ultimately higher-quality shadows, the ray-traced shadows let us have shadows that get softer as they get farther away, from the shadow techniques," said Rayner.
While Gears 5 doesn't join those doubling down on ray tracing in 2019, Rayner alluded to the beginning of future ambitions. "It's all in the GPU, compute-based, ray-traced shadows. This is earlier work, that works across all platforms, versus requiring you to have bought ray trace-specific GPU hardware. And so this works on the Xbox One, works on the Xbox One S, as well as the PC."
problem is, Gears 4 campaign is trash, horde mode style full of corridor, uninteresting enemies and stupid cliffhanger, you've been warned XD
Ignore that post. You'll have an ok time with it. You're getting tight gunplay, a new setting, and new characters that is only gonna get better. You'll get a better appreciation for the evolution 5 is taking.Haha, yeah I mean like I mentioned I'm interested in this because it's such a series shakeup - starting with 4 would likely in my case mean watching a playthrough of it on Youtube before 5 lol.
The Gears stories aren't really that involved. I think 4 even had an intro recap you could watch and then just read/watch the few important parts from that game. You can pretty easily get the general idea and then play 5.Haha, yeah I mean like I mentioned I'm interested in this because it's such a series shakeup - starting with 4 would likely in my case mean watching a playthrough of it on Youtube before 5 lol.
Yeah don't know what his/her problem was with Gears 4. It's a very enjoyable game with incredibly clean looking visuals, especially on XBX/PC.Ignore that post. You'll have an ok time with it. Agreed. Gears 4 was solid and looked and ran great even on base Xbox One.Gears 4 campaign was good. Had some rough spots with Horde areas and a bit of a slow start but the story is good and gameplay is fun.
The thing did get a 84 on Metacritic. It's no where near as bad as what was posted above.

Sooo is this a safe pre-order? Do we miss out on anything by not getting Ultimate Edition (don't care about early play)?
Average playtime is arround 10 hours.
It's probably worth reading a summary of Gears 1-3 and maybe watching a YouTube summary of 4.Haha, yeah I mean like I mentioned I'm interested in this because it's such a series shakeup - starting with 4 would likely in my case mean watching a playthrough of it on Youtube before 5 lol.
On the easiest difficulty you can probably blow through it at around 6 hours.
A sign of things to come. Hold on to your buttsThis is sounding amazing. Hard to believe they will just throw this in the laps of people with gamepass on day one.
