With the amount of subscription services coming up, I will barely have time playing many games so I am going to pick up the system that has the games I want which is ps5.

Gamepass is a great argument for NOT getting an Xbox next gen. I no longer need the console, and can focus on PS5 + Switch + PC.

AAA games aren't free guys ... you won't get blockbuster games at day one for 15 bucks for each month.
It just doesn't work like that, it's just ok for older games or AA games

Im already signed in for the 3 years of Gamepass deal, pretty much guarantees I'm getting the next Xbox. That's fine by me!

What about you? Are you on the same boat too or you don´t care about Game Pass?
I don't care about GamePass. I wanna own my games, so these services don't interest me at all. It's all about the games for me. Pretty sure PS5 will once again be the console with the most games from all territories worldwide. And Sony's exclusives are just too good and totally my thing. Can't wait for next year.

Microsoft would need to have more quality exclusives for me to care. And even then, I still have a PC that would likely offer better performance (if I update GPU in the future).

Games are always the deciding factor.

Funnily game pass is the reason that I won't be buying an Xbox next gen, it's unnecessary, will be sticking with my current setup of PC + PS5

for me, it has the opposite effect. As I have an upgradable gaming pc, I will be skipping xbox next gen and just doing pc game pass

Anyway yes. Considering Sony has a service like Game Pass and no one really talks about it much I think it will help Microsoft sell the next Xbox.

I understand you're viewpoint but ultimately, it's the games that's going to be the decisive factor for me and I know that Playstation will better cater to my interests.

Honestly I think next gen will definitely give both, or all three, an equal start as opposed to this and last gen's war race.

I think the definitive Console War will be the next's. So hopefully they all go full out.

Gamepass itself though? I do not believe in the concept or system. I think it will either crumble or it will have to be compensated through microtransactions.

Gamepass is great, but it still isn't enough to get me to switch to Xbox as my main console. Hell, I have had Gamepass for a few months and probably put 3 hours into it total. It's a great value but too many other factors that would be more important to me.

Lol. I'm guessing you aren't alone OP. I've seen quite a few people contemplating this already. Next-gen will be interesting. Buying Scarlet and a month of GP will get you Halo Infinite, and every other AAA 1P game and I'm sure MS will secure some 3rd party deals for GP just to coincide with Scarlets launch.

Multiple new games launching into the service every month is a very compelling value proposition. Then you think of what games these machines will be launching with next gen and all of those Xbox 1st party are going to be waiting for you if you pick up the console at no additional outlay other than your sub.

I guess I'll just have to live with the fact I'll be playing all of these devalued games at launch, I'll try but it's going to be hard, lol.
This. The value will just keep getting better and buying a console without having to pay $60 -$120 extra for 1 or 2 more games at launch will be amazing value.

Did they say if first party titles will be day+date, the same way Xbox is? I'd consdier getting it too if that were the case.

I have decided not to get the Xbox next gen based on game pass and other factors, will go PC, PS and Nintendo next gen. Have no reason to buy an xbox after this gen's 1st part output and if anything worthwhile comes along I can get it for PC on gamepass (£1 month) or Steam.
Also long term they are not going to keep offering £1 /$1 months, it not a suistainable business model.

I've been back and forth on this a ton.

I really like Game Pass and the value that it offers. It's made even better when you use Microsoft Rewards and get it for free! That should make the next Xbox a no-brainer purchase as I'm basically just paying for hardware.

But...

Sony's exclusive games are something I value above and beyond what I get on Xbox. I also don't feel like I have enough free time to really take advantage of Game Pass. So yeah... It'll be a tough decision for me. At this point I'm hoping for one to come out at least a couple of months before the other to make the decision easier.

XCloud could also make me reconsider Xbox hardware, as I'd be more than happy to play the campaign of Gears X and Halo Y via streaming.

I can definitely see the appeal of Gamepass and other similar services. I prefer owning things though and PS5 will be my console of choice because of the outstanding exclusives AND PSVR2.

I'll be getting both consoles next gen, but unless Sony steps it up I'll only be subscribed to Game Pass. Day 1 AAA exclusives is just too good of a value, and not to mention the steady stream of other really high quality releases.

For this moment, it's I don't want to buy a Xbox one right now because next one is next year, but it's a certainty that I will have one first unless it's releases too much time after ps5.

Sony first party is just too damn promising to give up.

Game Pass on PC and however Xcloud works into that service may make actually owning an Xbox console completely unnecessary. Regardless of if my PC can run next gen AAA games or not, I know my internet connection can stream games adequately. Even if the price skyrockets I could probably sub to those services for a couple months every year and do everything I want to do with it.

Gamepass is cool, and extremely cheap for playing MS exclusives. But I wouldn't buy a console just for it. The content just isn't there to get me to buy another Xbox. I have a perfectly good pc which I do use gamepass with. If I didn't have a pc, another Xbox would still be a hard sell for me, since the ms exclusives are just not there for me.

best of both worlds.. gamepass for PC
sony for consoles

Same for me + Switch for portable play and more exclusives. But honestly I'm not even that interested in game pass as it stands and I'll probably cancel once the PC beta ends and price goes up. My taste includes far too many Japanese games and games otherwise outside of game pass to even download games through the service - I simply don't have time to engage with it because I'm busy with more interesting games.

Game Pass is great and all...but it mostly doesn't have "GOTTA PLAY IT" games for me. Those are mostly Sony exclusives.

Depending on console release dates and when I upgrade my PC for Cyberpunk, I'll have a hard time justifying a next-gen MS machine now that Game Pass is on PC.

Gamepass has always been something I get in to every now and then when there's a big first party title coming out, then I drop it. PS Now is something I've been subbed to far more regularly and for longer, despite its libary being for older titles and the more expensive price. Now the price is better than Gamepass and still includes multiplayer with the base sub(I want a fucking apology), and while it isn't getting day 1 first party stuff it is getting more recent titles on a more frequent basis. I'm very firmly in the PS Now camp right now.

I feel like i want Sony exclusives rather than cheap third party games +MS exclusives.

Also i'm pretty sure Gamepass itself is a model that won't be sustainable enough in the long run.

I'm on the same boat, OP.

That, and the controllers. I can't deal with another DualShock 4 situation. They better not go cheap the fuck out on their next controller.

DualShock is complete horseshit trash.

Yeah, I don't want to spend money on games when I can get all the games I have time to play for like £2 this year and next and £7.99 a month after.

U are not going to see 10million plus seller on this service at day one or at all.

They will make more money than releasing on game pass.
Japanese games not selling great on Xbox is a blessing in disguise because they can negotiate good deals for them to be on gamepass. Iirc spencer also said something along these lines in the past but I could be wrong.

I've got two kids these days and a limited budget, so something like Game Pass is a really good value that gets me tons of great games and can limit my annual spend. So it works really well for me.
