Digging the aesthetics of both the trailer and the poster. A stylish Saw is something I can get behind.
And it gets better with every movie. Jigsaw was a bad movie, but this shit is 👌
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city's gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer's morbid game.
SPIRAL stars Chris Rock, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Samuel L. Jackson, and is produced by the original SAW team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules. The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Josh Stolberg & Pete Goldfinger.
Oh. Bousman is directing this?
EHHHHHHHH....
His run of Saw movies was the most hit-and-miss of the bunch.
3 is my second-least favorite of the bunch for a whole lot of arbitrary reasons. 7 is obviously the worst but I can't say I blame Greutert for that as much as the powers-that-be; he'd already done 6 before that which would've been the ideal finale as it's easily the best post-2 film in the series. 4 is all over the place for me; I enjoy bits and pieces of it but I think I've soured on the ending as I've become kind of tired of the formula of depicting the protagonists as monumental idiots who are only kept around for longer than one movie so they can die in stupid ways (the way they closed out Matthews, Rigg and Jeff's arcs still bother me). 5 is basically meh; it's clear they wanted a more return-to-roots structure after the last two movies got too complicated. It's forgettable.Saw 2, 3 and 4 are cinematic masterpieces compared to Saw 5 or Saw 7, ESPECIALLY in regards to how they looked. Remember, with the exception of Saw 2, none of these movies were written by their directors. Other than the overused transitions they direction really wasn't bad in Saw 2-4 and certainly leagues above something like Saw 7.

If this is Bousman at his Saw 2 level, then I'm optimistic enough.
It has that dare I say, nostalgic early 2000's look to it and i'm honestly digging it a lot.
Wow what an awesome poster. I'm digging the Se7en vibe in the trailer.
Again though, Bousman had little to do with the ending, the protagonists or the character's story arcs. He had no involvement in the script with these characters. I think it's important to be aware of the different roles in filmmaking - blaming a director for a movie's script when he didn't actually work on that doesn't make too much sense to me.
Spiral was once again written by the writers of Jigsaw, which is reason enough to be sceptical imo. Bousman is "only" responsible for directing the movie, though. And that point at least seems to have worked out very well judging from the trailer. We'll have to see about the writing.

Jigsaw (the movie)'s main problem was that it needed too hard to tie into, as the name implied, Jigsaw. He died 5 movies earlier but they still needed to work the "but what if jigsaw is not kill" route which was predictably not very believeable for anyone who followed the series. Spiral seems to be the movie that finally (for better or worse, we'll see) pushes us away from John Kramer's chronicles and moves into a new world, one where we're dealing with the true aftermath of his existence, not the direct consequences and the plans he himself put in motion. I think this extra freedom will allow the director to flesh out his ideas instead of having them work around the impossible premise of the previous movie.
I mean, I guess that could be the way this is going...but did you ever consider that maybe, and you should sit down for this, Jigsaw actually had ANOTHER apprentice who is now keeping up his legacy?
Now that's a great idea I'd love to see on screen!
I wouldn't say that, the first Saw movie was a murder mystery and Spiral looks to be just that.Don't know what to make of this. A Saw movie without the "Saw" elements? Could be interesting.
Hype is at zero level with the writer of Jigsaw and the director of previous saws,i am expecting more of the same starring rock and jackson
Chris Rock saw(pun intended) the box-office returns of the franchise (even Jigsaw made ten times its budget) and you know hes gonna have that sweet percentage gross points. That's exactly my fear. It's the same crew from the previous crap.
Its not a direct sequel, but its from the same writer so...
It looks like the Blackjack mini game in RE7
You think Hoffman ever got out?I feel like the last shot kind of ruins a good moment and gives away to much.
That's fairSaw 5 is easily my least favourite because it's so fucking boring and bland. "Previously on Saw" basically. At least Saw 3D committed to its absurdity.
Took me a sec to notice the spiral in the traffic light. Pretty cool.
