Sure, but as you see by this thread, it is very easy to ruin his run. Him getting Toomey in the senate and linking that to Kanavaugh is enough. Or the fact that he was a Republican mayor 7 years ago. People don't even know who he is!

I know this was posted already but why isn't anyone furious about Charlamange actively campaigning for Buttigieg

twitter.com

joe kennedy III is a republican on Twitter

“WATCH: Pete Buttigieg refers to dark money as “black money” in a room full of black people, catches himself, gets called on it, and manages to swiftly make things worse. Pete may become the first candidate to ever poll in the negative with black voters. https://t.co/vzMwSakpTH”

So what's the chance Tom Perez gets kicked as DNC chair? I'm assuming he is allowing Bloomberg to run without ever being in a debate?

Just in case it wasn't hammered into your skull just out of touch cable media pundits are, Chuck Todd would like for you to take a second and ponder just what kind of world we live in where he receives mean political tweets.

Yep.

People hate Trump. They want someone to knock the shit out of Trump. Bloomberg has taken the fight directly to Trump.

If I have to choose between Sanders and Bloomberg, I'll choose the former, and I think he can paper over a lot of his problems by going full apeshit anti-Trump. Negative partisanship rules all.

Either the candidates slam and murder Bloomberg quick or they'll lose. Problem is, hes not fighting them, hes going after Trump so how do you do that without getting pushback?

A recession would lead to a complete collapse for Republicans. It's the only thing they can really run on—all their other positions are revoked by a majority of the public. Remove that silver lining and they don't stand a chance.

In June there will be several supreme court rulings that should be very bad for Trump. Those or a weakened economy will be devastating to Trump.

I'll begrudgingly accept Bloomberg as an unintentional ally in splitting the moderate vote even further, and nothing else.

Unless he gets forced on to the debate stage, I don't see how you can tackle this.

Otherwise, he'll just keep flooding the airwaves with what are basically general election ads and it's gonna be hard for anyone to cut through the noise and hit him on his many problems.

Honestly I think this will be his lasting impact. He and Pete both. Stripping supporters away from Biden and letting Sanders get some much needed early press. As Pete and Bloomberg start to flounder it may be too late for those supporters going over to Biden to have as much impact as they would if it had been Bernie and Biden day one.

Bernie already going in hard on Trump's planned cuts

Bernie will kill him on this stuff.

Trump very wisely pointed out in 2016 he was the only Republican who could be trusted not to touch Medicare and social security.

But he staffed his admin with establishment Republicans who want the to cut those programs and since he is a lazy and undisciplined person he didn't overrule them.

Bernie will very easily portray him as wanting to pass a budget to gouge SS and Medicare to pay for his unpopular tax cuts.

Hold on a second. Could Bloomberg run as an independent in the general election?

He could. Would probably be a wash as he'd peel off moderates of both sides of the political spectrum. Might even do more damage to Trump, but considering how narrowly Clinton lost in those few states, I'd prefer we didn't have to risk it.

This primary is getting a little insane with how intensely Bernie is being smeared by all outlets, even MSNBC. Brown shirts?! Public executions?!! The fuck are they talking about?! Was the media this obviously biased against Sanders in 2016 and did I ignore nonsense like this because I wanted him to lose the nomination then?

I feel myself being forced to reevaluate some strong stances I've had about the constant cries of establishment persecution coming from Sanders's camp. Comparing his supporters to literal Nazis crosses a huge line into Fox style propaganda and it should not be normalized.

I think it's relatively safe to say that Sanders isn't the pick that these large corporations want. WaPo for sure, CNN with those last debate questions definitely. But I wouldn't immediately jump to the media conspiracy for every story you see. Like Chuck Todd's bullshit is Chuck Todd's bullshit. I doubt that was coordinated with the network or anything. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to do a lot of wading through the garbage to be able to separate what might be an actual agenda vs what supporters say is an agenda.

He has the express backing of Obama. So, no chance anytime soon.

Also, removing the chair while elections are in progress, would be considered extremely bad optics.
There would be not enough time to get a neutral replacement anyway.

And we're still only one state into the primary!

(For the record, the pundits are definitely going much harder into the "insane extremist" angle this time around, but this was building up over the last four years with the "Bernie Bro" attack that began back then.)

Corporate media is trash, even if MSNBC and CNN are slightly less trash than Fox News, they're all garbage just the same.

Tennessee
I'm a gay Democrat, and don't talk much politics because my entire family is super right wing so I've learned to just...not go there.

But I am excited about this year and hoping (though not confident at all) that someone will defeat Trump.

I liked Kamala Harris in the beginning.

I like Elizabeth Warren a LOT.

Bernie is great. He would be a big shakeup which is hobestly what I think we need but I don't know how much he'd be able to enact assuming he would not have support of the Senate probably.

Pete I don't know much about But he seems ok

Biden is boring

Klobuchar seems smart and I could see being president. I've heard she has a bad attitude towards staff but I've not felt that way watching her at debates.

Yang and Tulsi I know very little about so no real opinion on them right now.

Steyer and Bloomberg I know nothing about except they are running but I don't really think a Billionaire running things would be the best choice post-Trump.

At the end of the day, I will vote for whoever becomes the Democratic nominee against Trump This year the most important thing to me is "Not Trump".

I live in Tennessee so my vote doesn't really matter in the fall. I am leaning towards Warren for my primary vote.

Is there anyone in the field that people think has a real chance to beat Trump? Maybe I'm just deflated from the last few years, but it seems like either they will get chewed up and spit out by Trump, damaging then irreparably, or they have a pretty big weakness that would hurt the vote (like Pete having low support nationally among African Americans). Trump barely won in a lot of states that mattered, but here we are with a roaring economy (in general, I haven't had it help me at all personally), acquittal, and years of horrible words and actions and his approval numbers are going up!
I feel like I am living in an alternate universe nowadays. Sort of like The Man in the High Castle.

It was more "subtle", like when WaPo released 16 anti-Bernie articles and opeds on the same day lol. But the hatred/fear and hyperbole was always there, especially among some (keyword: some!) Hillary supporters.

Washington Post Ran 16 Negative Stories on Bernie Sanders in 16 Hours - FAIR

In what has to be some kind of record, the Washington Post ran 16 negative stories on Bernie Sanders in 16 hours—a window that includes the crucial Democratic debate in Flint, Michigan, and the next morning’s spin.

It doesn't need to be a media conspiracy to see that the capitalist class is visibly shook, not because they've formed some anti-Bernie cabal, but because they really are the capitalist stereotypes the Left often imagines them as.

Scratch a fascist and a liberal bleeds.

It's weird to think that considering where Chris Matthews and Chuck Todd's are before the first primary, we may be at "Bernie Sanders wants to execute all rich people" being the mainstream news headline in November.

Kind of worried about what the republicians are saving for the general if bernie wins the nom. This election will be really ugly.

Clinton's camp ran a extensive investigation into dirt on Bernie, and were left with a big fat pile of nothing other than "He's a socialist!" and a essay he wrote as a kid. Considering R's are going to paint any D as a socialist that's not a issue, and the letter is a big pile of nothing.

Putting aside the conspiracy of corporations acting in their own self-interest and people within the corporation being less friendly to candidates they have a less strong relationship with, it's enough for me to realize that cable news hosts make millions of dollars a year. These people and their friends are all very wealthy and would like to stay as wealthy as possible. While they may care about public schools or health care for the poor a bit intellectually, they aren't personally invested in the issues of the little people. It's only rarely that they get personally offended by politics, such as when Trump calls them fake news or they have their feelings hurt by Twitter randos telling them to go fuck themselves.

Well, let us not forget that the GOP and Trump don't care about telling the truth. They will just make up shit and put it out there.

At that point, I hope the CNNs and MSNBCs and WaPo and NYT of the world set the record straight.

If I recall there was one or two other things that made headlines in 2016 related to sanders. I hope he's able to withstand the onslaught during the general.

Just gonna repost these:

Bloomberg and Trump are on the same side of the coin. Also, "normal-ass Bush"? Bush is much, much worse than Trump is, and that's saying something. The "War on Terror" destabilized the Middle East for generations to come and affected millions of lives, still to this day.

None of this is even remotely close to how bad Trump is and will be in his second term. Bill Clinton is in that photo too, do you think he was as bad as Trump has been for the country? If the worst Bloomberg stuff you can find is this I'll vote for him over Trump a million times over.

Your time and energy would be better spent pushing back against the normalization of Bloomberg in the Democratic Party than already rationalizing his eventual nomination.

It doesn't have to be coordinated. The people who work at these places are of a certain class, income bracket and social circle. It's clear they're going to lean a particular way.

lol Chris Cuomo shitting on Bernie during the closing of his show

I like Chris when it comes to his coverage on Trump and his interviews with almost anyone... but dude has showed his bias regarding Bernie for a while. And it's been getting pathetic these past few weeks.

He keeps trying to push these little heart felt moments from Joe and Pete to humanize them, as if that's enough to disregard their policies.

When Joe was doing horrible in Iowa... Days later Chris kept calling for old footage Joe being sentimental, in the middle of a panel discussion.. when those moments had NOTHING to do with the panel's discussion. It was pathetic.

Wow people already going from anybody but Trump to I'll sit it out and let wannabe dictator for life get reelected so he can fill the supreme Court to be 6 to 3 heavily conservative and add more banned countries to the travel ban and destroy whatever is left of US democracy and law. Enjoy the end of abortions, gay marriage, limits on presidential powers I guess.

Edit: potentially 7 to 2 republican supreme Court actually. Wonder what they'll get rid of next after parts of voting and civil rights acts and limits on campaign financing. The mind reels at how far right things can go with two more Trump justices.

Really great dynamic we have where Fox went all in with Trump and became state TV but MSNBC and CNN is basically being run by McCarthyites who will do a lion share of the work against Sanders on the right wings behalf
