If only 47% of white women voters supported someone who demonstrates that he enjoys abusing people like them but whose primary selling points were racism and xenophobia, that's not really something to brag about.

Touting that distinction is damning with faint praise.

Agreeeeed. I totally misread 39~ something odd percent but that was women altogether. My bad all.

I don't think its less about animosity between LGBTQ and black people; this post is effectively white people annoyed a white guy is calling them out on their shit.

Hell, like I tried to point out in a previous post his joke should have failed about Pride vs Black History month since obviously there should be a huge overlap; it works because on some level there isn't an overlap because black queer erasure is also a big part of Pride.

While multiple groups can be oppressed at the same time, the way that jokes works is if white supremacy is a separate tie that binds. And it is, across various non-race based marginalized groups.

Imho its telling that a joke about intersectionality critiques we are debating is the post is focused on supposedly maligned -white- groups.

Ultimately we (and I say this as a cis black male) need to up our game, outside of black women we suck at intersectionality.

Great post. To further it, I see a lot more hetero whites gearing up for Pride parties than I have ever seen even register that February is Black History Month.

Just catching up with this thread, but that bit struck me as this age-old situation:

One dude (White men) is getting roasted the fuck out of by everyone. That dude realizes someone else (White women) laughing particularly hard at the roasting. Dude getting roasted flips the script and goes, "Boy, I knoooow your sorry ass ain't laughing!" and proceeds to roast the second person too.

At no point did Bill Burr make a case for White dudes. He explicitly says that White women need to take their seat next to White men for the heat.

I'm not gonna be mad at White people slinging mud at each other.

53% of your white queens, voted for an open white suprematist and fascist.
Would love to see your data showing the majority of white women who were a part of the Me Too movement voted for him, or Republicans in general. It's gotta be very granular or you wouldn't have this 53% number. Or are you ignoring the "part of Me Too" aspect, which is the entire subject of the monologue? Are you lumping every white woman in with Karens calling the cops for black people existing in public?

You aren't making a point here. I'm well aware of this. I'm specifying a subset of white women who are associated with the Me Too movement. Do you know how they voted?

Honestly it doesn't matter how they voted. What matters is that they have more-than-likely in some way benefitted from white supremacy and they don't get to wiggle out of their part just for being 'woke.' In fact if such a white woman felt offended by Burr's overall message then she isn't in it for the right reasons to begin with.

He was talking about white women as a whole. Not the specific subset you're nitpicking about. Me too was started by a Black woman too so I don't know why you're trying to attribute that accomplishment to white women.

White women benefit from and often take advantage of their white privilege granted to them by white supremacy. You're not going to try to make this about misogyny while talking to a woman of colour. White women tears don't work on me. Sorry, buddy.

Lmao Bill made a joke referencing the specific group of women who were white and raising their voice about being groped by men and you all lumped them into a wad of mysoginistic Trump voters who should sit down and shut up while other people fight the patriarchy.

Hilarious dude.

You don't have to be a Trump voter or Republican to be racist lmao. There's plenty of white racists across all political spectrums.

What are you talking about? Where is my attribution of the Me Too movement to white women? It is absolutely still relevant that white women are taken advantage of by men, and him belittling that fact is what I'm taking issue with. So why can't I nitpick it? Why can't I have an issue with a subset of people that he makes specific reference to?

White women are Karens.

I've heard Bill's white women bit before (in the Netflix UK special) he was talking about all white women.

The same Karens calling the cops for black people are the same ones claiming they don't have a racist bone in their body and that they voted for Hilary.

White ugly ass bald male mocking white women 🥱🥱🥱🥱🤮🤮🤮🤮 and "hijack the woke movement"? (that's what I hear) so women aren't a vulnerable class against men? so women, white or not don't get killed everyday by men? Remember men are the ones who kill the most, rape the most, wage war and are the cause of mostly of problems in this world and this mediocre ass men tries to blame white women like mediocre white men (cofcofEracofcof) do, pathetic. This forum is like 90% mediocre white men so no wonder why people like this lol.

And yes white women should acknowledge white privilege, still, who kills mostly of men of color? men, who kills mostly of women? men, who kills mostly of children? men, seems men here should acknowledge something too...

Just remember that the civil rights movement in America was highjacked by middleclass white women as well. History tends to repeat itself as they say.

"
The nature of white women's activism in the 20th-century South cannot be grasped without good knowledge of the context in which they lived. At the turn of the 20th century, the region still had not overcome the trauma of the Civil War and its consequences. After the end of Reconstruction, segregation had been institutionalized in the former slave states, to restore the white supremacy that had been theoretically abandoned with the abolition of slavery and the granting of citizenship to African Americans3. The restoration of white supremacy went along with a rewriting of history depicting the Civil War as a lost cause, and the Old South as an ideal society, of which the « southern lady » was a sacred figure to be eternally honored and protected. The white woman, because of her mothering role, was indeed viewed as the guardian of the white race, and as such, she had to be protected from any contact with black men. She was thus put on a pedestal by white men, who pledged themselves to fight for her purity4. In the segregationist South, lynchings became an efficient means to remind black men of their status, as the murders were usually committed to protect « white southern womanhood » from alleged rape5. The point is that, given the distinctive features that characterized southern society in the early 20th century, the status of white women could not be dissociated from the race issue, which had direct consequences on their involvement in reform. While many simply went on conforming to traditional norms, those who engaged in reform did so in a quiet way, using channels outside of politics6.

4Up to the 1940s, white southern female activism manifested itself through all-female, church-related groups. Most of these women belonged to the middle and upper class, and remained within the bounds of respectability as « southern ladies ». Yet they often found themselves at odds with their male-dominated institutions, and laid the groundwork for the following generations of activists."

I mean, nothing you're saying is wrong at all. It reminds me of a Donald Glover joke about the way society talks about men vs. women. I think it intersects with white men/women especially so. We joke about "crazy Karen" stories, but "crazy Kevin" stories usually involve death or rape.

Also wanted to say, I agree on your initial assessment on Burr. He's an old, straight, white, rich dude. I feel like "stanning" him is the last thing anyone should be doing.

it wouldn't bother me much if he wasn't white. Look, I know white women can be vile but I think a white men opinion on this is pretty much worthless if he doesn' t talk about white men first, I'm a woman of color and honestly my opinion is more worthy than his.

Nobody is saying that White women aren't victims as a whole in society compared to white men. But people can be victims and also oppresors. Like even in terms of white men, there's a pretty clear divide between rich white men and poor white men. But that doesn't mean poor white men aren't also hugely responsible in oppressing others. It's important we fight against injustice in all forms, be it racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. But a lot of people are only willing to fight injustice when it's injustices that they personally experience, or when they don't need to give up anything in return. Even worse when you coopt movements to fight injustices aimed at others solely to focus on the problems you face. And while white women are certainly not the only failures in this regard, they have been guilty of these types of actions more than pretty much any other group aside from poor white men (who coincidentally are the group second highest on the totem poll to rich white men). There are so many groups facing issues and while we should try to tackle multiple at once overall, it's definitely not appropriate for people to try to coopt specific movements and events intended for one group for their own.

People quoted Nepenthe's post a lot but I see we need to quote another one that's just as important.

And it's not like I don't get the idea behind wanting a woman of color to say these things, but...

People of color say this shit all the time.

Not only do white liberals don't listen to us when we do say it, but on top of that, I have online spaces where I can find far more hot fire against white women than anything Bill Burr would be allowed to get away with on public television. Ultimately, what he said is just anything I can hear from my own on a Tuesday. I am inundated with reminders of how "not shit" white women can be in the fight towards equality.

The fact that the heat was coming from a white man is an inextricable part of the joke.

He says in that part of the joke that white men are primarily responsible for crimes against humanity. The cancel culture joke is ultimately about how unsurprising it is that a white man born in the 40s was a completely racist shitheel. The Pride/BHM joke includes a self-deprecating crack about how he's an out-of-touch idiot because he's a straight, white dude. He doesn't let white men off the hook anywhere in this monologue.

what is the male equivalent for Karen? I suppose we have created it by now, right? where are the viral videos of Kevins being racist fucks
We have racist white guy videos all of the time. We just had a dipshit try to shoot some kids cause he lost an argument. We just had a huge mainstream new story of white surpremacist men trying to kidnap a politician. The president is a white supremacist. What the hell are you even complaining about? That white women are suddenly getting called out and have a specific term directed toward them? Whoop-de-fucking do. They're still complicit. You don't get to "but white men though" here.

You're literally hijacking this thread to divert from the point. People talk about men all of the time. They don't need to bring them up every single time we talk about the wrongs that white women have committed.

The BLM protests this year started with two events back to back. A liberal white woman (and donator towards democrat politicians) siccing the police on a Black man because he had the audacity to tell her to follow the rules, basically trying to murder him. And then a white male police officer pressing his knee on to a Black man's neck until he died. That is what white women are trying to unleash on Black people when they call the police on them, because they know they are protected by white supremacy and take full advantage of this. It isn't just Republican women or conservatives. I bet Amy Cooper would have voted for Obama three times if she could have, and probably even attended the women's march!

and are they called, "Ben" or "Kevin" or whatever? are they treated as "funny"? When people talks about anti-mask idiots, they call them "Karen", not the male equivalent. It's funny because when white women get called out they are a meme, when men are racist is more "serious", like deep inside people still fear white men more, of ppl want white women to be held accountable then don't make it a meme or a monologue.

I think we need to acknowledge, though, that the Amy Coopers of the world do what they do knowing it will get Black people killed. That's really not any better in my book. That WW didn't "actually" kill someone, we just called the ones who did, is not a distinction for us to be proud of.

This is the long and short of it. There are plenty of threads here where white supremacy as it is enacted by white men is thoroughly discussed and shunned.

We can have a single thread where we talk about white women's role in white supremacy without trying to divert attention away from them back onto white men. Karen gon get this heat today.
