I mean... always knew they weren't about to announce D4. Blizzard sequels typically take, like, a decade or more to be announced, guys. Classic days are gone. I think this looks really cool, and I'm sure it will be a neat little time-sink. Color me curious.

This looks... kind of awesome? Really don't get the negative feedback ITT.

A mobile game was the main announcement of Blizzcon and also Blizzard have stated that they have "multiple projects" going for Diablo and leave Diablo until last at the opening ceremony. It's also been outsourced to Netease so it's not even developed by Blizzard.

The mobile game itself looks ok, not that we know much about it, but it's how and when it was announced that has caused this reaction.

They are going after the Asian markets as they know how profitable that will be.

So painful to watch the reveal and the panel.
It might be a perfectly fine mobile game, but they really failed to understand how and where to announce such a game. Just like most other big publishers.

As for the game, it really looks like it is a Diablo 3 ported to mobile. Which is not a bad thing as such.
But, not like this :(

First Valve with Artifact, now Blizzard with Diablo Mobile

Next step is Red Dead Redemption 1 remake as a Switch exclusive.

I dunno much about Blizzcon, do they usually do the huge announcements during the opening ceremony? Or is there any hope that there will be more Diablo news?
IDK about previous ones, but the announcement was during the opening ceremony, and the Diablo panel was just more on the announced game. I checked the schedule during the announcement and it switched from "What's Next" to "Diablo Immortal Unveiled".

Diablo 3 is brainless and plays itself with very little user interactions, so this isn't so far from it.

Diablo has become a money pit, it's not about fun, hasn't been about fun since Diablo 2.

The thing is that there have been Diablo'esque games on mobile for years and not one of them felt good to play to me

Add to that stuff like the battery getting hot and drained, your thumbs covering the screen and possibly a bunch of mobile game design shit that costs you time and money and I can't help but feel largely uninterested in this despite being a Diablo game. I'm sure this will eventually make Blizzard more money than the actual main series ever did, but as someone who associates Diablo with long playing sessions and the feeling of "click'n'slay", this really ain't it for me

It doesn't look that bad.

I don't want to play it but it doesn't look that bad.

D3 DLC or D2 remake would have been nice to see though.

Instead of giving us a proper version Diablo 3 for mobile/tablets... They give us this thing
Buy-once games don't make money - unfortunately this has proven true again and again. Eventually these games end up not doing as well as F2P counterparts and often stop working/are deactivated by their platform and the pub can't be assed to fix it and the devs are either disbanded or too busy by the time it stops working. The only thing that has proven to work is the F2P or C2P model - unfortunately - and you can't shoehorn that into a game like Diablo without making it into a completely different game.

A bunch of people are working their asses off and pouring themselves into a game, and it's OK to call that work a joke - at a panel for said game no less - because you simply aren't interested in it? Stop and consider this for a moment. You're saying you love a dude who is that much of an entitled, oblivious, sneering prick. Those are qualities you admire.

Bruh.

Don't try and foist a mobile game onto a core gamer audience and expect to get applauded for it. It's simple really.

Wait, where's Kev Martens, that good fella who turned D3 around ? Did he leave Blizzard ? I remember reading a bunch of departures from core D3 devs a while back...

I have been waiting for a mobile game I actually want to play, and if it controls well enough this might be it! I want D4 also, but this is pretty cool if it works out.

Blizzard today is so far from the company I once loved.
I'd be more surprised if they made a game I liked these days.

It's a classic case of "this is clearly not what the fanbase wanted"

The smart way would have been to announce it side by side with either D2 Reforged or at least a teaser that D4 exists even if we won't see it for a while.

EA made literally the same mistake with Command & Conquer this year at E3.
Microsoft on the other hand announced their weird Gears of War spinoffs together with a mainline game - that's the way to do it if you don't want a fanbase backlash.

Amen.

It's telling how garbage HARDCORE GAMURZ culture is that people are actively celebrating this dude, sharing his attitude, and acting like he came out of that exchange looking good.
Ahhh, you do know what Blizzcon is right? And the guy asking the question is fine? I don't get that response at all, it's rather Blizzard's response that is terrible and immature.

Also, people. This game isn't made by Blizzard. They literally shafted the game to a third party mobile developer. That's how much they give a shit.

I'm okay with them being grilled at the panel. They announced a farmed-out, pay-to-grind mobile game to a room full of PC and Diablo franchise enthusiasts. No one wanted it and it's not made for them but for ActiBlizz shareholders who want to get on the mobile cash cow.

They hyped up Diablo so much it's perfectly understandable that people might think they're joking (and the company has a history of putting on pranks).

I don't care about a Diablo mobile game existing per say, but to announce this as a big thing on the Blizzcon stage is so tone deaf. Just do a random press release any day.

If you didn't expect blowback then I don't know what to say.

I take it that the "Don't you guys have phones?" dude has never worked in customer service. You never push back against an angry customer like that. LOL

Nah, Blizzard deserves all the shit flung their way. They already spit on one of their most loyal fanbases with the original Diablo 3 release, and now this. I don't have a single shred of sympathy for them.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of that response. Has to be hard up there getting the reaction they got but that's not the ideal way to respond imo. It's the 'what, are you dumb?' kind of response to me.

So happy I didn't get caught up in the D4 rumor hype. Boycotting this day one!

Imagine if Fallout shelter was all Bethesda had at E3

Or if MS closed last E3 with Gears POP!

I'm super down for this. I take the subway to work every day and the idea of being able to play Diablo on my phone while I commute is awesome.

As long as they're still making D4 I think it's all good.

Ahh, they SPIT ON YOU. That's it! By not rewarding your loyalty by announcing a game you want, they SPIT ON YOU! And thus deserve a bunch of hostility. For spitting on the fans.

And y'all say it's not entitlement.
