You guys think this is just random, no, this is a symptom, the bigger problem is the ageing engine.

If this is how they handle game logic, there will be so many bugs. Collision detection will be buggy. Anything with physics will be buggy. So many things....

On top of this you add the randomness of server lag issues...

Hardcore Fallout fans will still buy this game day 1, for everyone else it will bomb and price drop like a rock.

What a mess.

At least I'll have the comedy jank gameplay videos to look forward to though!

Inexcusable that they're still using this engine.

It'll be a hundred times worse for an online game.

At least the memes will be glorious.

I feel that most companies have replaced or remade their engines at the start of PS4/XboxOne gen, while Bethesda keep just trying to paper over the cracks of a really awful engine. With the money they have made they should have made a new engine by now not using a modded creation engine that still has all the same issues that its had for years. It surprises me they continue to make the same mistakes over and over. They really are one of the poorer largest companies out there in terms of tech, their other engines for single player games are fine, its the open world stuff thats a disaster.

Reminds me of telltale and that for the visuals their games had, the performance didn't match up.

I'm assuming that, literally, this is their final big money grab using their existing enginge before a next gen upgrade.

It's evident they've put no effort into this thing and maybe, just maybe, in a post RDR2, Horizon, Breath of the Wild world, people will stop buying into Bethesda's hype and they'll finally work on the core engine.

I'm somewhat glad Elder Scrolls VI was skipped while BGS makes all of these mistakes. I hope Starfield and TES VI have a vastly overhauled engine (it won't be brand new don't kid yourselves).

I've been ridiculed for eons for saying their junk heap, duct taped gamebyro zombie engine is trash. I guess we finally are in a world where the "no one else does what they do!" excuse doesn't fly anymore.

Wooooooow.

Gonna just cancel my preorder now. If it's worth playing later maybe I'll pick it up but this is sounding awful.

Jesus, you guys are so salty about this game. Lol.

I had 4 hours of great fun with it last night and I'm bummed I can't play more tonight.

This looks silly, even for a beta. On the top of that they make it Bethesda Launcher exclusive on PC. I wonder how long that wil last before they put it on Steam.

With no BR until March it's DOA in my opinion. This Fall is already too packed as is. I have zero desire to buy another game as I already have too much to play. Should have delayed it until it is done.
BF was here before the BR trend and it will be here after. Can't say I feel the same way about Fallout 76.

Fallout 76 is incredible value, endless entertainment and you don't even need to buy the game.

As someone without any skin in this, all these FO76 bugs/glitches threads are great entertainment :)

I think Fallout 4's engine didn't see as much criticism as it could have due to the backlash on the poor dialogue system and story. It also didn't look that bad at the time, not impressive, but not bad either. Since the upgrades here were quite marginal, the engine looks increasingly dated. Hopefully the backlash to this game will cause them to really re-evaluate the iteration of these engines game to game.

I feel as though the running excuse of not updating their engine for fear of inconveniencing modders (or whatever other reason) has run its course. A fellow on another forum that has modded/worked with the engine has a fantastic break down on how poor this engine is (Credit to Einhanderc7):

This is a pretty interesting read, thanks for sharing!

The bit about goldsrc made me chuckle

If you've ever watched a speedrun of a Fallout or Elder Scrolls game you'd know that using that same engine for a multiplayer game is an utter disaster waiting to happen.

I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg. People have been turning their games inside out since almost 2 decades now, there is no way in hell there won't be a ton of exploits and hackers within the first week.

Oh damn it, did not think about this. This old engine is well known by now in the modding community. Couple with online multiplayer there is no way it will not be a hacker griefer fest soon.

Skyrim was a good game for its time.

Fallout 4 not really.

Skyrim was literally unplayable on the PS3 when released, and despite patches still fell over in the end game. Due to poor coding and memory leaks the frame rate would drop and drop as your save file grew and there was nothing you could do about it - eventually you'd be down at 5 FPS permanently.

There should have been pitchforks and mobs over that alone.

This could be a good thing. If Fallout 76 bombs due to its poor engine, Bethesda may actually create a new one for Elder Scrolls VI.
