I feel like the Poison Tide room in Bonneton hit me how good Nintendo is at collectathons...so many different secrets in one seemingly simple room.

Seeing so much positivity for this game is making it really, really hard to pass it up, especially considering I have a short trip tomorrow that I could play it during. Is it as difficult to play in handheld form as I think I read the other day, or was it overblown?

Just got to the lake zone. My wife is a bit ahead of me and in the wooded zone. Neither have us have stopped laughing or exclaiming at the cool things we are finding. What a special game this is. Gonna be a great weekend playing this!

I'm 4 worlds in and I think this will be the best platformer i will have ever played in my life. I still struggle landing junps and gauging the 3D space just like I did with Super Mario 3D World on Wii U but I absolutely love the design, music and mechanics.

Somewhere
This game gives me the feeling I had when I played Mario 64 the first time, or the Galaxy games. It's that kind of a step forward in Mario games.

I have literally cracked up laughing three times at really odd stuff in the first four areas. I normally don't laugh at games/tv/movies/whatever.

The question is just a mirror; what the Rock is cooking has been inside you all along

I had the wrong tab open, but I'll just leave this here anyway. :lol

I love this game, but controlling Bullet Bills is an absolute nightmare. I almost threw the controller during that part in the Sand Kingdom that they demoed in the Tree House.

I'm in the 5th kingdom I think? Played like 5/6 hours already. Loving it. Several times my jaw has dropped, especially in the Cascade Kingdom.

I feel like it's impressing me smidge less than Galaxy 1/2 but there is still so much left to play. I'm already hoping we get Odyssey 2!

I just beat the second kingdom and did some side stuff, and honestly, I'm kind of underwhelmed. Only died once to myself messing up a hat toss and the game seems pretty simplistic.

I'm sure it will get better, but so far I'm just seeing this as a pretty good platformer.

It is pretty simplistic, but it's fun. I'm 130 moons in and all the level design and puzzles are pretty basic.

But this game looks amazing on my 65" OLED

You guys, should I start out with the Pro controller or dual Joy-Cons? What's the best option? Leaning Pro.

I can answer this one as I bought the paperback guide last night as a last resort means to finding the last 5% or so of moons. Yes it has all the moons with detailed descriptions and a map. Little did I know the in-game hint system makes the guide practically pointless as it can show you where a moon is on the map. Oh well.

Great, thank you so much! Normally we only buy/"collect" guides for things like RPGs, but I'm willing to drop $10 for the paperback guide to make the wife happy, and this saves me $20 over getting the CE guide for whatever the bonus content is there (guessing art/interview type stuff). Thanks again!

Lost track of how many hours I've played so far today. This game is pure jollyness. And I've only visited four kingdoms so far. I'm excited to see what's up ahead.

Controlling Mario is giving me Venom Snake flashbacks. It's pure bliss. I'm loving his extended repetoire, especially the rolling: can't stop using it!

Not going to spoil anything, but the ending to this game is perfection. From the actual gameplay to the final cutscene, I can't think of a better execution.

I think my favorite thing about the game so far is that, so far, nobody questions or minds the fact that Mario can just turn into a sprite on a wall. It's just a normal thing that he does.

Ok, so when jumping, you can throw your cap, dive, jump off the cap, and then do another dive.

But, after you dive and jump off the cap for the first time in midair, are you able to throw the cap and jump off it again to effectively link jumps together? Or is it just a one time move?

I'm sure it's been said a dozen times across this thread, but the map is amazing.

I love it. The smooth scrolling, the art, the little sounds for zooming in and out...it's amazingly well done and polished.

OMG, there is so much to do after the main story...what the hell?!
How, Nintendo? How do you do this in such a short time? Unbelievable!

I hear Joy-Cons feel natural-- but I want to leave them on the Switch as it's mostly docked lol. Pro is ready to go all the time. What do you guys think?

I just want to take a moment to say how happy I am to be here, how in awe I am of what was accomplished in creating this, our shiny new home basically overnight, and how much I hate you guys for playing Mario Odyssey while I'm stuck here, not playing Mario Odyssey. (Soon.)

Btw, not that anyone'd notice, but I dropped the "thought" in my name because it was too long and too dumb.

To new beginnings!

Just got my copy but I have an article critique to write and then have a road trip to Dallas to see Brand New this weekend.

I don't think I'll have much time till next week. I want to get lost in the sauce. I'm making the tough decision to not even put it in my switch until I know I'll have the time

This might be the last game I order from Amazon. Have Amazon Prime, was suppose to be here today, and it's delayed. This is the second time this has happen in a month. Metroid: Samus Returns was the same way. Was delayed but when I got the game it was a empty package. They had to rush me a copy of the game. In both cases it's behind handed to USPS from Amazon and that's where the delay is happening. I don't put my PO BOX for a reason and they still ship it that way. So pissed right now. Glad I didn't bother taking today off or I'd be even more pissed.

If this is a repeat of Metroid and I don't get this delivered until Monday instead of tomorrow.....man. If the box is empty like the last time. I've never once gone off a customer service rep but this might be that first time I lose my cool.

I am loving the variety and general whimsy embedded in this game. The stream of constant rewards for exploration, the constantly changing play mechanics and (for me in particular) the portability is making the prioritising of real life very difficult. Nintendo bringing that magic again!

So, I kind of knew the cap kingdom place in the beginning was a tutorial area, but was Cascade Kingdom not a full area proper? It was really short and now I'm in the Sand Kingdom and it feels more like a real sandbox area. Did I just miss a lot of stuff in Cascade? And as a follow up, are there other kingdoms that are really small like that?

I think we are missing a lot.

I only got four out of the five empty circles in Cascade Kingdom. Couldn't find the obvious one so thought I would come back to it. Then I went to the sand location. Not even half way through and I filled up the circles and there are many more moons still to get. I took a quick peek at an online guide for Cascade and realised I missed a lot! No more guide peek for me.

I honestly don't remember the last time I sat down and spent 3 hours in a row doing just one thing.

Game's magical.

Guys I can't start until I get someone's opinionnn. OK, fine, I'll just jump in with Pro controller. Is that what most people on Era are using?

Some impressions so far:

The games overall feel is as strong as anyone could hope for with the Mario games. Poking and prodding the world is delightful. There's so much density to the worlds that it's kinda silly. The breadth of power moons for better or worse is exciting in guaranteeing that excitement around the corner and in tandem with the cosmetic reward structure ends up feeling pretty solid in spite of losing linear level structures. The opportunity to break the more linear sequences beyond cascade kingdom is marvelous. Mario Sunshine this is definitely not.

Cappy and the opportunity he creates for diverse gameplay and expanding mario's moveset is also fantastic without necessarily simplifying things a bit too much like Fludd did, plus he's more enjoyable as a character. Playing this game dual joy cons is a joy from the thorough use of the HD rumble. Plus the return of a flexible Mario jumping moveset is a wonderful feeling indeed

Story-wise, I like how fast this game gets into the thick of things. 3 Minutes in and I'm triple jumping and diving and adjusting to the controls well. The deceptive size of the Cascade and Cap kingdoms in this regard is also quite a boon for the pacing.

And of course, the music is magnificent.

Wii U Pro controller is acting wonky with this game, worked fine with Mario+Rabbids. I guess I'll try with the joycons for now, but since they didn't include a charging grip I guess I'll play later once they're done.

Have $30 in Best Buy credit, was thinking about putting it toward Yakuza 0 but it may end up on a Switch Pro controller.

I am finding myself mainlining the story, even though I have every intention of competing 100% of the game. I just cannot help it when Cappy is reminding me that Bowser is lurking in a kingdom nearby! Anyone else "rushing" to the credits?
