Final Fantasy XIV, everything from A Realm Reborn onwards. I love the storytelling, I think it very sensibly scales its gameplay to console and PC, and I think my immediate and the larger community for the game is far friendlier than most online gaming communities.

This. FF14 is great and the only good thing to happen to the franchise in the last decade. I'd actually say it's the only good thing in the franchise since FFX. Sorry not sorry.

What a depressing list overall unless you're a fan of MMOs. Geez. That said, I've heard enough good things about XIV to recognize it's probably the best. But out of the ones I've played (XIII, XIII-2, XV and Dissidia NT) it's definitely XV. Unfinished as it is, it still manages to blow the XIIIs out of the water.

World is on my queue. Bought it on sale recently. And despite disliking MMOs, XIV is on my queue too.

FFXIV is one of the better written FFs in the entirety of the franchise so it ranks in the top five for me.

My main excitement of the expansion releasing soon is getting to see the further adventures of some of my favorite characters, not really anything gameplay related. It's like a TV show that gets a new season/episodes every few months and it's great.

Didn't play XIV, so I can't say about that one.

And considering that in my opinion FF XV is one the worst games I've ever played I would say that my favorite is XIII (the first one), which says a lot about the state of Final Fantasy :(

It would be a fight between XIII and XIV.
XIV is arguably the "better" game , but it felt like it was collecting all the worst aspects of MMOs when I played, which burned me out of it. So I picked XIII.
None of these games are really good. But I thought XIII and XIII-2 had plenty of good elements in there. It was primarily the linear maps and the 25 hour tutorial that was offensively bad.
WOFF was kinda okay, mediocre in all aspects, but nothing that was a disaster. I could see some potential if they heavily refined everything in a sequel.
XV was just completely awful with no redeeming qualities.

On this subject - I cannot start a thread, but FFX and FFXII switch are both on sale at Amazon. Which should I pick up? Leaning toward FFXII, but I honestly cannot remember much at all about FFX because it has been so long

I would say Final Fantasy XIII-2. I quite enjoyed my time with that one. The best story though goes to Heavensward.

Currently playing FFXIV and loving it, probably the most fun I've had with FF since the XII re-release.

Good lord that's a horrible list. I actually answered Type-0 but I had the most fun with it out of those even if it was ass quality wise.

God, looking at that list is depressing.

Edit: Yeah, Theatrhythm, probably.

Was Bravely Default secretly a Final Fantasy game? Of the ones I played, I guess I'd pick FFXIII-2.

World of Final Fantasy was the best Final Fantasy game that released that year. I've heard FFXV has improved a lot since it's launch. I've also heard great things about FFXIV but i have not played it. the subscription cost and time investment are keeping me away.

Haurchefant, Estinien and Gosetsu (and Hildibrand) tell me FFXIV.

Also it's the only one on the list I've played.

World of Final Fantasy Maxima for me, is the more " finalfantasier" game they made this generation. I played it on Xbox One and loved it. Want a sequel as soon as posible but I dont have much hope

I hate it when people lump all 3 XIII games together.

I'm not voting

Anyways, my answer is Final Fantasy XIII. Amazing art direction, music, battle system, lore, etc. I just fucking love that game

Man what a shit decade it's been for FF. Gun to my head, I'd go FFXIII-2. It was a fun romp that didn't take itself too seriously plus I'm a sucker for time travel fuckery.

Edit: Completely forgot about XIV. That game by several light years.

I think I like FFXIII more then XV

The story was better paced and the combat eventually got good. Also FFXIII had a amazing score. XV has solid music but nothing that stands out!

XIV.

I just failed to get into FFXV for the 2nd time recently. Bought the Royal Expansion and rewatched the first hour of Kingsglaive, so it's not like I wasn't committed. That world is just so fucking boring, almost as much as the tasks they have you doing.10 minute car ride to "mine" a mineral deposit? Come on, Tabata.

Final Fantasy XV dethroned VII as my favorite FF game.

I wish I had the time to devote to FFXIV though

I didn't finish any of them, didn't buy any of them, and barely cared enough to watch my friends play them, never to completion.

I hear 14 is pretty good though. Also, no one I knew bought Lightning Returns, so I can't speak to it besides that really funny box dog screenshot.

Final Fantasy 15 is great, but The Crystal Bearers should be in the poll.

if you count spin offs then

(Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest in Itadaki Steet Special 30th Anniversary Edition :P)
which I really should play more of. I need to print off a new reference sheet I suppose.

Damn, forgot this existed. But I guess you can blame Square Enix for that.

XV

i mean, it wasn't fantastic but i had a good time. it was the most 'final fantasy' experience i've had in awhile, even in spite of its flaws. that said i've no desire to play it again

Yeah... I still don't get why they won't localize it.
it didn't help the only one of the franchise (not including the mobile game which was horrible) to get localized was the wii one which people constantly confused as a mario party like game.
even then it should have sold at least as well as all those idea factory games that are released :/

I'm hoping that they make a new one on the switch and that nintendo helps localize it again so I can have proper online play with my friends on the game :( (I couldn't convince my friends to get the japanese version and play with a reference sheet lol)

XIV. I'll go so far in saying that it's objectively the best game of the bunch.

I liked Final Fantasy XV a lot despite its problems, but it's the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy for me and it's not even close. Lightning Returns sucks, but FF XIII and XIII-2 were both wonderful titles that were certainly flawed but get about 5000% more flak than they deserve.

Touch choice for me between XV and XIII, but i gave the nod to XV.

I really like XIII-2, WoFF, and Type-0 as well. Platinumed allo of them.

Well listing the FF 13 games together is a bit unfair because I like them all but if I had to pick on it would be 13-2 followed by 15 then 13 with the rest of that list falling short imo with the exception of 14 since I don't play MMOs so I won't judge it.
