What is going on!? Someone shut down the December thread before linking to this one. Has ResetEra finally given up on comics lol.

Started Bendis's Secret War and Waid's Daredevil. I read some of Waid's DD when the omnis first came out but put it off till now. Glad I did though. It reads a lot better after reading Brubaker's Cap and Daredevil.

Man, the lineup for DC is rough outside of Hellblazer (and Poison Ivy, which I'll eventually get the trades for). Actually interested in half of the Marvel lineup lol.

The good thing about this new model is that I'm finally putting this in my watched threads.

It's easier to be interested in Marvel when everything is a #1

I really hope we get a new Swamp Thing run in the reasonable future and don't have to wait for Mangold's film for the corporate synergy.

DC fucked up when they didn't hire Hickman for Legion of Super-Heroes. The DCU still hasn't recovered.

Hey everyone. As folk should know, the Second Round of our Comic of the Year awards is ongoing. Unfortuntely, fewer people are participating so far and that means fewer comics are being voted through to the Final Round. As a result, I'm going to go ahead and approve a fifth vote for everyone. But alongside that, I'm going to say the deadline for this round is now the end of Wednesday, Jan. 3. Go ahead and use your extra vote wisely! An don't forget to move other votes around! Get those votes in before the deadline!

When I think of "writing for the trade" it's more about building a story issue by issue. Not every issue has to end with a cliff hanger. But I dunno if "writing for the trade" even works on most Big 2 books these days. Hickman is trying it with GODS but he's going in guaranteed to sell a minimum amount of whatever he does. Most writers are writing pretty short sighted because they are not guaranteed to have the book after the first arc or two.

It was news when Green Arrow went from a mini to an on-going just recently lol.

It's pretty obvious what DC are doing for books that don't have Batman in them or aren't 100% sellers. Green Arrow and Ivy both this year got turned into ongoings due to fan support and sales. If you are a smaller title DC wants proof via sales that it works. If not you a mini.

Finished Bendis's Secret War. Might be the worst thing of his ive read imo. The Nick Fury and Shield stuff were all great, but all the superhero stuff was awful. Logan especially, might be the worst Logan ive ever seen. Wasnt even sure it was him until they refer to him by name. Half the book is a post 9/11 look at politics and the other half is trying to fit that story in to the 616 and it just feels so awkward.

Saga....I dunno....it just doesn't have the same feel? The hiatus really killed it and sadly i don't think it will ever be the same

It definitely killed the big hype but I still enjoyed the issues released. Middling to good Saga is still better than most comics. If only for Fionas art.

Chainsaw Man was on break most of the year though right?

And yea, Saga lol.

Chainsaw Man has been consistently back all year and is amazing...I'd vote for it but I need to support Sejic stuff and I helped others with my votes lol

So Greg Weisman's twitter account was taken over by someone else a few weeks ago and they released some private conversations and emails.

bleedingcool.com

Greg Weisman Hacked On Twitter X, Marvel Comics Details Exposed

Two weeks ago, Gargoyles creator Greg Weisman and Young Justice/Spectacular Spider-Man producer had his Twitter/X account hacked.

Apparently Weisman, writer and producer of Gargoyles and Young Justice, was only paid $55 per page for plot and $55 per page for scripts. $3300 for the entire comic lol. Thats gotta be a joke rate or something.

The leaked information included a now-emptied Dropbox folder shared with Kyle Higgins, and two pieces of information, a discussion about the press release for the upcoming Spider-Men comic book and what Greg Weisman's quote would be, as well as his page rate for Spider-Men #1, a 30-page comic book story at $55 a page for plot, $55 a page for script, totally $110 a page, or $3300 for the comic. It's often impossible to find out what comic creators get paid for their work, especially from Marvel and DC, as they are often bound by NDAs. This definitely appears to be a relatively low rate for such a high-profile creator on a high-profile book. But that's a whole other conversation.

I now understand why artists are very happy with multiple commissions or me buying their covers. I've paid more than that for a single cover...

During the past year, I decided to look up on two comic runs from tv shows that were cancelled too soon: Deadly Class and Paper Girls. The two may seem like they couldn't be any further apart in aesthetics, but they ended up being more related than I thought. It was great watching those kids try and overcome mounting odds and I overall enjoyed the experience.

It's such a shame Avengers Inc. had to speed up the reveal because it's a damn good one. They could have kept this going for so many issues. The only benefit is that this could be tied into the current Gang War arc. Seeing it ending in the next issue is just depressing.

She-Hulk has a heart-to-heart with her cousin for the first time in this writer's run. It's under new circumstances this time with Bruce no longer in the mind of this Hulk. It's pretty well done, and things will only get more interesting now that the Avengers proper could start getting involved.

Spider-Woman is the usual standard action superhero fanfare. And as you'd know, Jessica can't go about her life without Hydra getting involved. This feels like it would be better as a miniseries if it isn't already what it is.

Green Arrow takes advantage of becoming an ongoing by setting the state of our heroes in general (again, still think it makes no sense Wondy would be in hiding over all of this). That said, it's nice that DC can piece together what's going on with everyone and make it make sense (even Dinah's venture with the Birds of Prey and Batman's mental state).

Finally Harley Quinn gets some cohesion. And of course it's thanks to the return of Kevin and the events of the previous run. The comic also clears things up on the mystery of who's been messing with Harley through the multiverse. It all makes the read much more enjoyable.

Things only go from bad to worse for the Power Rangers as the corruption claims more Rangers. And it's only made worse by some heroes failing to live up to the occasion as well as others returning to their old ways.

List:
Fantastic Four #15
Poison Ivy #18
Shazam #7
Blue Beetle #5
Ranger Academy #4

Hyped for the new Komi volume. I hope it's not too long before Chadano leans in for the kiss Komi really wants. In the last volume the chump kissed her hand. Idiot boy.
