Watching the detailed video on the Horizon Zero West 1.16 patch and then seeing this really sets yourself up for disappointment lol. "gorgeous" and "beautiful" are not the first things that spring to mind watching this trailer.

I'll take the major decrease in fidelity here in exchange for Monolith Soft being the ones helming the open world design. No shade on Guerilla Games, but I don't believe that's their forte, to say the least.

Great look at the environments they showed off on Twitter. Also cool that they said Aionios is only where you begin which further proves Swordmarch and beyond will probably all be new in the 2nd part of the game. Aghhh I'm so excited.

Loving these trailers. The world design is always one of Xenoblade's biggest strengths, so trailers like these drum up excitement without having to give anything away story-wise.

And the music speaks for itself.

It's no shade on anyone to say they're not on the level of Monolith Soft when it comes to world design. I mean, who is?

Nothing comes close to Monolith Soft's worlds and other consoles being 100 times more powerful hasn't helped bridge the gap

Going from Xenoblade 1 to FF13 Gran Pulse, a game with several times the budget on a console with several times the horsepower was...an experience lmao. Monolith Soft needs some respect put on their name.

the problem with horizon is that the worlds just... feel too realistic. which isn't that interesting. "real life but video game" is kinda boring most of the time for me.

Nice music but I'd lie if I said this was more beautiful than xenoblade X's environment.

It looks too much like xenoblade 1 which is fine but has ageeed.

Little less excited for the world this time around since it seems like it's gonna be greatest-hits mishmashes of previous environments and not surprisingly new ones, hopefully that's not the whole world.

I think if you combined the color palette of XBC3/2/XBCDE with the X environment it'd look pretty nice. The one thing I don't like about the X visuals is the lighting and color choice.

"Graphical fidelity" is different than "beauty". Sure, Horizon FW looks pretty great, but for a series that started on Wii, and it was already beautiful and expansive on Wii, it's impressive the Xeno evolution.

I think X looks the best out of the 4 as well and I can't figure out why. Maybe the usage of fog? Noctilum is just on another level

Looks like typical Xenoblade - that is, amazing, but it'll have to do something pretty impressive to top X, which somehow looked insane, especially as a Wii U game. Sylvalum was next level.

Looks like a Xenoblade game alright. Looks nearly identical to the X and XB2 opening area. Can't wait to see the more diverse biomes (atleast as diverse as X was) .

So 360p just like Xeno 2 in handheld with under 30 fps, or can we expect at least an ok performance in Handheld mode?

Game looks decent, but I am tired of terrible performance from Xeno series on Switch.

Yeah, as beautiful as I think that trailer is and as hyped as I still am for Xenoblade 3, we haven't yet seen an area that is really mind-blowing in the way that specific Xenoblade areas can be.

Hopefully we will see something soon on the level of Satorl Marsh, Sylvalum, and Uraya.

They're definitely holding back the more unique environments. It's not a team that I'd expect to rest on their laurels and stick with the greatest hits the entire time.

This is gonna look awful in handheld isn't it?

And I'm still gonna buy it because I still love the premise of the series even if I've only finished Xenoblade 2.

Wasn't XC:DE made in the XC2 engine? I thought that had better performance than 2.
Not really better, despite still having some stuff that didn't receive upgrades from the Wii it had a similar resolution that actually goes lower than 2, and also didn't keep all effects on in handheld mode compared to docked (most obvious one being water reflections)

Ok, I have been avoiding any info about the game, so I have only seen the announcement trailer. The tweet says "open world". Does that means that it's not big areas connected like 1 and 2, and it is a open world like in X? Because that would be huge to me, it would become instantly one of my most wanted of the year.

X was fantastic because of what it was trying to do as well.
They wanted to make a truly alien world and definitely succeeded there.
the other Xeno games aren't going for the same things so they can't go as hard.

I think I preferred the concepts and the execution of Xeno1 over 2 so 3 getting some cues from 1 is definitely a plus for me.
If it's 1 single open world like XenoX over the more disjointed separate maps of Xeno 1 and 2, it would definitely open possibilities for the game!

Currently playing XB2 and on chapter 4. Love this video and reminds me of the first game. And while I dig the art style and aesthetics man Gromott renders like garbage on my switch lite. I really do hope this one runs a bit better cuz the games do have lovely worlds.

Lovely trailer. But Monolith Soft are obviously keeping a lot of cards close to their chest. There's been three trailers now, weeks worth of tweets and we've only seen two areas proper.

We've seen glimpses of others areas but nothing tangible.

That's disappointing to read. Was hoping to tackled DE after 2.

I haven't played Xenoblade 2, but this first area really reminds me of Gaur Plains.

It sucks that they never got the game to look decent in handheld mode. It's why I skipped 2 and may skip 3. Like I just so rarely play on a TV these days

My favourite thing about this trailer is it popped up for me right after I gave IGN's latest Sonic Frontiers vid a glance, the upgrade even on weaker hardware lol

Yeah Monolith Soft are unrivaled in my mind at making a game world. Mira is just too GOATed. What we have seen of XC3 has been very modest, likely intentionally so, but knowing that only a fraction of the team did XC2 while XC3 is apparently back to all hands on deck, I have no doubt that there's gonna be some awesome exploration in this game. I'm so excited.

They used the phrasing "open world" in some cases, which they never used for X1 and 2, so maybe. Not confirmed yet, but it does look likely

Really looking forward to this! Giving XC2 another playthrough atm(then Torna right after as I never go around to it). Forgot how enjoyable it was when you get to chapter 5ish.

They're...supposed to be realistic. Horizon's world is literally Earth in the future lmao.

Also if massive robot dinos are boring for you then what actually does it for you, my dude

The art direction is amazing. Also the design itself of the world. Other open world games have prettier graphics, but the world/level design of xeno games are unparalled.

The Sims is also supposed to take place on Earth. Civilization takes place on Earth. Persona 5 is set on Earth. And of course they're supposed to be realistic, but that's exactly why it's kinda boring. It looks exactly like the real world in terms of environments, and the character models. When I see the trees, or rocks or anything I don't think about an artist creating a stylized interpretation of what those things are, it's just... something meant to look exactly like our trees and our world. It lacks the otherwordly cartoony fun. Even RDR2 is generally more stylized in its presentation.

This is also why I'm not a huge fan of most of the Marvel movies, because you take vastly imaginative, cartoony worlds from Comics and then just... put them in the real world. With very boring color grading. I did enjoy the new Batman film though, because of its obvious David Fincher influence. And David Fincher is really good at hiring the right people to make the lighting and overall looks of his films unlike real life.
