Yeah, I caught that too where Geoff was introducing Rod as being from The Collective.

Insomniac
Sony.
They have done VR stuff not with Sony and that EA published shooter but in general the past has been mainly SonyOther than SO Insomniac have always been bosom-buddies with Sony, makes a lot of sense for both, I am sure.
Meanwhile Microsoft buying studio that to fill the genre they need to have their own(action, RPG etc). They do.

This is what I don't understand. Phil keeps spending money on indie studios as if they'll help increase the xbox brand value but most people who aren't core gamers mostly care about AAA games that studios like Insomniac can deliver. They do.

Playground, Obsidian, and initiative are indie studios now weird. This is what I don't understand. Phil keeps spending money on indie studios as if they'll help increase the xbox brand value but most people who aren't core gamers mostly care about AAA games that studios like Insomniac can deliver.
Phil is making a huge mistake by not going after AAA studios in my opinion. IO Interactive would be a great get for the Xbox if only Phil can stop his obsession of buying indie developers.
C'mon, there's going to be a little bit of shit, if it was the other way round there'd be shit for days.

I'm trying hard not to call certain people out but it's so hard
TBF I doubt people would shit on their studio organization and call their studios all indie filler but that is just a thought so...C'mon, there's going to be a little bit of shit, if it was the other way round there'd be shit for days.

Lol who cares how big the studios are? MS got a lot of great developers to join their ranks.
I can understand some people saying that but when you look at the big picture I mostly see a bunch of indie devs joining Xbox Studios. Of course you can argue that Playground and Obsidian are AAA but Playground has only made games for the Xbox so far so it's not surprising that they joined the Xbox in 2018. I just think that the focus should be on getting AAA studios and not a bunch of smaller indie teams. This is fairly off, I think. There is a clear mix of studios involved.
You do know that there aren't that many independent "AAA" studios out there right? Which is why, shocker I know, MS is building up the studios that they purchasedI can understand some people saying that but when you look at the big picture I mostly see a bunch of indie devs joining Xbox Studios. I guess insomniac isn't that big of deal since they only worked on really only one AAA Xbox game and the rest of the AAA development was for Sony.I can understand some people saying that but when you look at the big picture I mostly see a bunch of indie devs joining Xbox Studios. Why you sound like they can't focus on both?I can understand some people saying that but when you look at the big picture I mostly see a bunch of indie devs joining Xbox Studios. Insomniac being bought by Sony is comparable to the playground acquisition. Solid studio that was already pumping out games almost exclusively for MS/Sony.
The purchase only makes sense if insomniac was going to get bought by ms imo. Had to prevent that
Had Sony been on an acquisition spree like the Xbox I guess not but they dont buy new studios that often.I guess insomniac isn't that big of deal since they only worked on really only one AAA Xbox game and the rest of the AAA development was for Sony.
It's going to be difficult to have so many studios under one roof. That's why I would be very disappointed if the next acquisition that is announced for the Xbox is another indie dev. Hopefully they acquire IO interactive or some other well known dev with a valuable IP.

Well my criteria is basically two things. Having a team of 100+ people and a well established IP with millions of sales.I don't get this. Microsoft have acquired a few smaller studios, but also a few that are perfectly capable of delivering so-called AAA games, and have in fact done so in the past. I don't see by which criteria IO Interactive (or Insomniac, for that matter) are more "AAA ready" than Playground, Ninja Theory, Obsidian or even Double Fine. All of them have worked on big budget, well received games with some of the world's biggest publishers.
