This is a ridiculous post. He sounds like a grandma, not an alien. You just don't want to admit your double standard.
If you think he sounds like a grandma that's up to you. I thought his voice was feminine in the dub never thought of him as a grandma. The only person I ever thought of sounding like that is Goku's Japanese VA and that was before I found out that it's an old woman voicing him.

You clearly didn't watch the best parts then because Vegeta not only defeats a God and perfects his own super saiyan form but also masters old moves like the super explosive wave.

I'm perfectly fine without ever having to see a character spit up blood from internal injuries anymore.

Dub freeza has always been dreadful. All versions, linda and ayres. Ayres may be even worse - absolutely tripe performance. Sounds like someone doing a horrible impression of a Rich British person. I can't emphasize how much I hate it.

Ryusei Nakao, however, is one of the most brilliant Japanese VAs. Legendary performance.

I still see comments from time to time from Dub fans going something like "When i was a kid i had no idea Freeza was a dude" Like, if you are at a point where even the gender of the character in question is unclear to the audience but it was not unclear the original source material then you have officially failed even the most basic 101 thing that a dub needs to do. I know the voice acting is subjective thing but i for the life of me will never see the appeal of Linda's performance it just makes me want to grab the remote and turn the volume down past the zero mark, so i can give my senses a rest. The voice is just dreadful. It's not fitting for Freeza in the slightest and would sound out of place for any other character as well. Just imagine Cell with that voice and you get the picture.

One of the reasons I didn't bother with this show, seems like an inferior product in everyway compared to Z.

How does this make sense? Frieza is an androgynous, presumably asexual alien. They don't even have any genitalia.

Super is prime time airing in Japan. Kids will be watching and they don't need to see holes in chests with blood being puked out.

I never felt fear or dread with any of the people they faced (Goku Black Arc at least tried). None of the pitiful attempts at villains come close to being as frightening as Frieza, the Androids, Cell, or all the forms of Majin Buu.

Also who ever thought starting the show by rehashing those two movies is a colossal idiot.

Grandma Frieza was one of the worst dub voices of all time.

Ayers Frieza is one of the greatest of all time and finally showed me why he's the most popular DB villain.

Kai was the first time in history that show got a proper dub. Everything before was utter garbage, minus the Ocean cast (and as proven, they don't have as much range beyond the standard deliveries).

If you have someone listen to Goku's Japanese voice without letting them see a picture of him. They'd probably think Goku is an old ass grandma. I guess the Japanese dub also failed the most basic 101 thing.

Freeza is male and the fact that it was even a thing that had to be questioned by dub fans speaks volumes of how badly the character was handled in the Funi dub. That is even without going into how terrible and unfitting the voice is. Funi dub Freeza nothing like the original. Freeza is a completely different character in the dub and that is a failure on the dubs part no matter how you want to slice it.

It's kind of mind boggling how they can be so against Frieza sounding feminine but have no issue with Goku's adult voice.

For one Goku was voiced by Nozawa since the first episode of the DB and the voice never felt unfitting. Goku always acted and sounded like Goku since the first episode, all the way to the end of Z and now extending even into Super as well as GT. There is no disconnected there, that is just what he sounds like and personally i never felt he sounded anything like a "grandma" just like i never felt that Bart Simpsons sounds like a 60+ year old actress when i hear him speak even in the newest episode's of the Simpsons. The character sounds exactly like he is supposed to. Same with Goku.

Part of the reason for why Nozawa's Goku sounds better than Linda's Freeza because Linda's performance is not even close to being on the same league. Not helped by the fact that Freeza's lines in the dub are so over the top cringe and ridiculously out of character that i don't really care how good you are as a voice actress/actor those are going to sound bad and tonally out of place in DBZ, no matter what. Even Chris Ayers would come across terrible with that kind of material and he alone blows every other Funimation actor out of the water.

Bruh..

That is not a typical sounding male. Like, if you don't like the English dub that's fine, but don't try and say that this is absolutely masculine.

I dunno you tell me. It's not like that clip you picked is not completely cherry picked so that we don't actually hear him speak much. but just to make sure lets use a more appropriate example.

Bruh..

Don't try and say that the original does not sound male or that it would even come close to being debatable.

Germany
I always die a little bit inside when people say "grandma goku" when talking about the original dub.
The japanese voices are legendary and perfect. They are supposed to often sound insanely over the top and exaggerated, and not like a usual TV show or movie with real actors.
I never have a grandma in my mind when I see and hear original Goku.
I grew up with the German dub back then, and while many of them did great and hard work in general, many voices just do not fit for some characters and they never reach the insanity and intensity of the original. The same goes for the english dubs from what I have seen in the past years. Many characters feel and act completely different from the original dub. Not to mention the hundreds of changed voice lines. I think it's incredibly hard to dub most of the battle shounen animes into other languages. It works much better with more "normal" and grounded animes where they don't have to scream out their intestines in an otherworldly manner, lol. It's always an interesting, entertaining and often crazy discussion when talking about the Dragon Ball dubs.

Agreed man. DB dubs just don't hold a candle to the original.

One of the wishes made on the Dragon Ball was for a more family friendly universe so no one ever bleeds anymore.

This is still the most violent fight and beat down ever back when the show was still great:

but now it's all super sayan blue purple yellow time travel dudes n shit.

Honestly speaking, I actually prefer the adventure of kid Goku than the chronicle of what happened after Goku got married and had kids.

I kinda gave up reading around the Frieza saga.

It was actually the first one I saw in youtube. I didn't cherry pick it. The original does not sound male

They made Goku a fucking moron in super to appeal to the kiddie crowd.

Super is just crap in general.

I mean, look what they did to vegeta. Castrated the poor bastard.
Sure vegeta finally stops being a dumbass and goes back to being intelligent and stops taking his enemies lightly allowing them to power up to full power before he jobs to them. Vegeta beats way more people in super then he ever did post namek arc in z, but he's castrated because he became more then A 1 dimensional character. at least if you are going to make a bullshit claim at least use a character that fits like piccolo

It's a combination of newer standards and time slot in Japan. Just look at Kai to see how the blood was toned down (though watch Kai anyway for the better dub) .

Yeah, when Goku was a little kid it was fine. The fact that it didn't change is absurd. It's a terrible, unfitting voice that is only revered because of nostalgia and being used to it. Anyone who hears the Japanese Goku voice for the first time will feel an instant disconnect because it is clearly a woman's voice in a ripped, buff grown man's body.

Maybe sayains don't go through puberty. lol.

Isn't it just the best?

I remember playing DBGT Final Bout on the PS1 and hearing pretty regular sounding English voices EXCEPT when they screamed. It was the shrillest and most annoying thing I have yet to hear. I can't believe people grew up with that and liked it.

I could understand liking the new dub Funimation did for DBZ remastered, which went up to when Goku arrived on Namek. That dub actually had quality up to modern day standards. But to like the original, original Funimation dub...that's just terrible.

It was funny when they switched back to the original dub in Namek and quality in voice acting notably went way down, like the VAs lost all their talent in one episode.

Overall though, Kai is still the best English dub the series has to offer.

Kai may have its issues but it's perfectly serviceable imo and the best version of the English dub by far. Everyone does an excellent job. It's crazy how much the Funimation cast improved.

My headcanon was that the characters are so strong and resistant nowadays that their bodies don't bleed easily like in the old series. But I forgot about the DBZ Kai redone scenes.

Sure the show doesn't need the blood but nothing quite sells the damage and desperation like Vegeta's bloody mess of a face limping his way towards Kid Buu to tell him how he still ain't shit.

Lack of blood doesn't really bother me too much.

I guess it would have fit really well in the Black arc. But the tournament arcs? Eh.
