When was the last time a game cracked your Top 3?

As the thread question asked, when did you last play a game so good, it ended up in your Top 3? So many great games are released all the time. Do you find yourself constantly finding new favorites, or are there just some great and meaningful games to you that stay untouchable?

The last time for me was BotW, 4 years ago. (13 Sentinels was close, though)

Both Katana Zero and Celeste are right up there, both of which I played last year.

RE8 cracked my top three RE titles...

The last time a game hit my overall top three was Mass Effect 2.

Yakuza 5 when it finally got an English release back in 2015. Yakuza 0 probably slipped somewhere into my top 10 a few years later, and then Yakuza 7 managed to sneak into my top 20. It's an amazing franchise :P

My actual top 3? I don't think that has been cracked into since 2004.
The most recent game where I was like "This is top 10 material" was Mass Effect 2 in 2010.

I usually don't keep a list or even try to, because there's so many great games I love for various reasons. It's near impossible for me sort and rank them. I have a list of all time favorites, but that's it.

But it was probably Days Gone for me. At least it deserves an honorable mention for being all out amazing. And I'll play it all over again on PC, starting today.

My top 3 are:

Final Fantasy VII
Shadow of the Colossus
Demon's Souls

So, 12 years ago for me with Demon's (or 11 if going by the UK release). I have not played the PS5 remaster.

This list feels kinda static and I'm not sure when another game will break in. Even games I loved recently like Tearaway and Bloodborne don't feel like they're getting into my top 3 of all time.

The newest game in it is the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess from 2006, but there were times I put Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Soul Calibur IV from 2008 in my top 3 before realizing I just drank the hype kool aid.

My top 3 is Gitaroo Man, The World Ends With You, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence and I think that's going to be untouchable unless something insane happens.

Goat Shima was truly breathtaking and a wonder to play. Would have cracked #2 if only it had Dualsense support.

The Witness in 2016. I was just constantly amazed and impressed throughout the entire thing. I replayed it last year and it solidified its place at the very top for me.

Disco Elysium released 2019, 2021 it solified it's place with the Final Cut. Previously Witcher 3.

Bloodborne in 2015, not only cracked my top 3, but also went to the top spot.

My top 3 is:

1. Bloodborne
2. Resident Evil 4
3. Dark Souls

They're certainly not new releases, but I played Higurashi When They Cry and Umineko When They Cry within the past year, both of which cracked it.

I don't have a top 3 because I've played so many varied types of games that trying to choose the best like that would be almost arbitrary at best.

There are games that you know are something special though, and if we're talking about that, Breath of the Wild (2017), Yakuza Zero (2018) and Celeste (2020) are clear frontrunners for other recent games that I'd put in that class.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Smash is absolutely one of my fav games of all time and every single iteration I've liked more than the last. I honestly don't see how they can top this last one though....

A true new entry in my top 10 was Hitman 2016

But my top 10 is full of series of games, rather than singular games. Stuff like Final Fantasy series, Zelda series, and Pokemon series. Those have had great new entries since then, FF7R, BotW, and New Snap.

I don't have a concrete top __ games list, but the most recent games that i can say with total confidence have cracked my favorites of all time are Rocket League (2015) and Outer Wilds (2019)

Rocket League is a perfect game that I continue to put an absurd amount of hours into year after year. It has an infinite skill ceiling, feels amazing, and is the best adaption of team sports into realtime gameplay ever.

Outer Wilds is just pure game design brilliance wrapped in a sci-fi theme i love, playing with ideas and mechanics that absolutely blew me away. I'd consider myself lucky if i can play something even half as ingenious this gen.

It'll take something special to break my Silent Hill 2, Grim Fandango and We Love Katamari top three.

If we're talking a bit wider, Outer Wilds (2019) and Wandersong (2018) made a dent in the top 10 recently.

Bloodborne is almost a perfect game where it's only problem was it didn't last forever. God of war also was incredible since I was kind of annoyed by Kratos in Gow 3 and he's easily become a very thick onion after 2018s release to go along with all the games strengths.

PS. Please Sony throw money at SSM from the sky. Let it rain plox.

I don't have a top 3. The very idea of being able to so accurately rank the games you enjoyed as to arrive at a top 3 is alien to me. I've got like a general grouping of great games.

1998 with Ocarina of Time. Since then, my top 3 is the same! Number 4 and 4 have changed though :p
