I was busy yesterday so I couldn't write up a full response, but I wanted to address the issue of pessimism in this thread. I've been expecting these things from a 50-50 Senate and a small House majority: Reconciliation bills, tax increases, massive stimulus money, judges, full Biden cabinet, and a lot of compromising. Any more would be great, but by sending my mindset there back in January I wasn't as disappointed when we weren't able to get other things.
Even with the majorities we have, there's still a relatively big amount of strong legislation that Dems can pass and campaign on. Just this year we're likely to get the American Rescue Plan, infrastructure, and another reconciliation bill with strong "social" infrastructure like paid leave. When was the last time a congressional majority this small got this much passed in a year?
This is where I'm at: focus on the accomplishments that we can realistically get, and realize that the 2022 midterms might be our chance to get even more. It sucks that we likely won't be able to get strong voting rights protections, but the economic legislation passed can and will go a long way to vastly improve where we were at in January.
