Inpressive that a spin-off (or more correctly, side-series) of a racing game on a single retail platform is somehow outpacing the year's biggest Ubisoft title that's available on three.
TLDR summary of the thread so far:
1) It's only for one week!
2) Oh it's LTD? Then obviously it hasn't outsold PS4 + XBO versions of ACO combined, this is XBO only
3) Oh right.. it's outselling both combined, really? Well Assassin's Creed Odyssey has bombed big time
4) It hasn't? Hmm.. well FH4 is cheaper than ACO, I've seen it cheap in places. That's the reason.
5) Game Pass helps increase sales
6) No it doesn't
7) Yes it does
8) No it doesn't
9) Sea of Thieves! 1
0) Bundles!! 11) RDR2
Bundles are not exclusive to FH4, many of the touted as best selling games exclusives this generation had insane bundle sales.I don't know about the UK, but in other places FH4 is currently moving more units via bundles than the standalone game. It makes this specific comparison a bit more tricky.
Not to say FH4 isn't a great success, cause it is (and deservedly so).

Because MS was suppose to sell off the Xbox division remember? No one buys Xbox games even though they are on Gamepass. Why are so many in this thread in such denial about FH4's sales? What's there to accomplish by downplaying it?
Not the first case either. *cough* MHW *cough*. Console wars are wierd.
Grats to the team, stellar game.
Yeah how dare people talk about on of the biggest gaming markets in the world. How silly of them. Are we pretending that UK sales are somehow representative of global performance? That's why these threads always irritate me. The UK is a tiny part of the overall market. To put it in perspective, Japan is about double the UK's size.
It's bizarre that people pay so much attention to UK sales when the UK is about as relevant as France, Germany, Italy or Spain.
lmao what does this even mean?Forza Horizon 4 is selling well but probably less than AC at it peaks. After like I said Racing games are popular in Europe and I would be curious to see the worldwide number if an Xbox console is more popular in continental europe maybe next generation.
It's bigger than the french gaming industry, not really sure why you are getting so annoyed at people talking about the UK.Once again people show a lack of understanding of the UK market.
More copies of FH4 are being sold via bundles than at retail. Digital is of course an unknown. Retail pricing has already hit the £30 mark as so many bundled codes are hitting the market.
All hardware received a boost in the UK thanks to RDR2's launch. With practically every XB bundle SKU either being an official FH4 bundle or an added value retailer addition. Fewer than 20k total will put a title in the UK top 10.
The UK is a small market. It's no more important than France, Germany etc., and a fraction of the entire European market. The weird importance given over to the UK is one of the reasons there is such a distorted view of the overall software market.

This whole thread is one big "but..."
Grats to the team at PG, this is really impressive.
People are surprised because they think AC is a 10+ millions games but it is not the case anymore... The topic is not only about the Forza Horizon performance but it shows too the AC sales decreasing at the same time. Forza Horizon 4 sold well and the franchise is the best selling racing game at least in US and UK. But I think the sales can improve next generation if Xbox sales improve in continental Europe because most of racing sales game are in Europe.
Correct me if im wrong, but isnt the uk market proven to not be representetive of global sales?
UK is still the 5th largest videogame market in the world. It was (don't know if it still is) the 5th biggest market in the world after China , USA, Japan and Germany.
32.4 million is now tiny....
No single market is truly representative of global sales, obviously. But you look at that UK top 10 and is it really that much different to the rest of the Western markets?Correct me if im wrong, but isnt the uk market proven to not be representetive of global sales?

Odyssey had the best opening for ac games in a while, if not ever (don't quite remember now)
How the hell the series are "declining"
- Assassin's Creed III - 3.52 millions
- Assassin's Creed II - 3.27 millions
- Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - 2.36 millions
- Assassin's Creed: Revelations - 2.22 millions
- Assassin's Creed Unity - 1.59 million
- Assassin's Creed Origins - 1.51 million
- Assassin's Creed - 1.24 million
- Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - 990 000 exemplaires
- Assassin's Creed Syndicate - 920 000 unités
And AC franchise is not the juggernaut it was before sales after one week but AC Odyssey is the best AC sales this generation.
https://www.altchar.com/games-news/578577/ac-odyssey-sets-record-first-week-sales-for-the-franchise
Did AC Odyssey sold more than AC 3? No the serie is not at it peak anymore. Worldwide many PS4 exclusivity sold better first two weeks, maybe Halo 5 too. AC Odyssey is the best AC sales this generation we just don't know the number because Ubi soft hide it, the game sold more than 1,59 millions and less than last generation AC... And it is a decline from it peaks.
"Not being on its peak" and "the series are declining" are two different things
One purposefully framed to belittle the merits of the others
You are literally coming into a thread and stating FALSE things. Things you have no actual proof of. Why?People are surprised because they think AC is a 10+ millions games but it is not the case anymore... I updated my comment as I found a report that said it was now the biggest market in Europe, so that would make it the 4th biggest market in the world.
Although that's tiny apparently.
You are literally coming into a thread and stating FALSE things. Things you have no actual proof of. Why?
Why do you need to make up a reason for FH4 outselling AC?
In France, sell.fr provides the Xbox One Top 3 (using GSD data). We can see that AC:O charted better than Forza Horizon 4 on Xbox One between week 40 and 42.
But with the release of RDR2 in week 43 they're both out of this top 3 unfortunately.
Code:France Xbox One Top 3 (sell.fr) Week 40: 1. AC:O 2. FIFA19 3. FH4 Week 41: 1. COD:BO4 2. AC:O 3. FIFA19 Week 42: 1. COD:BO4 2. FIFA19 3. AC:O Week 43: 1. RDR2 2. COD:BO4 3. RDR2 Special Edition

People need to realize that Assassin's Creed declining doesn't in any way, shape or form detract from the huge success that FH4 is.

People need to realize the series were declining but are now on a upswing again
This is not Forza against the lowest point AC ever been
Did I say Forza Horizon don't disserve it success not all, it is by far the best racing game. And I consider it is incredible to grow sales for a racing franchise within current gen context. Forza sales are good but not as good as before. Gran Turismo sales are bad compared to franchise peak. Multiple racing games studio are now dead Evolution studios, Studio Liverpool, Codemasters is ok but lost money last year.
I think for exemple Forza Horizon 3 probably sold more than Gran Turismo Sport and I am curious to know where the ceiling for Forza Horizon sales are and I think the day Xbox console are more popular in continental Europe, we will have the answer.
Maybe he's counting Forza vs ACO Xbox SKUs only?
Because if not it's hard to believe that Forza is outselling such a multiplatform beast since AC games sell like 3 times more than the Forza games worldwide.
Holy shit the irony. How do you know? Where is the the proof? The only official number we have are first week sales and it is not look like AC Origins are on the road to be above 10 millions sales.
