This. I have never owned an Optimus Prime figure in any capacity.
I've always wanted to rectify that, but it seems no mid-budget toy exists currently.
I had the G2 version of this. Trailer was black, still have Optimus Prime somewhere, missing his hands. It also came with this pack that had clipped onto the front of the trailer that made noises.
Yep, definitely this. Although these things were like £299, so that was never happening 🤣
The USS Flagg equivalent for the Transformers in the 1980's - Fortress Maximus.
The Flagg was still cooler though.
The one exception was when I managed to convince my mom to get me one of those wooden and plastic construction sets, but she made me feel like such shit for it that any time I brought it out I felt bad. I still think it's one of the coolest types of toys.
NeoGeo is still a classy looking machine.

I was a lucky kid and got the t-rex, I can't complain too much, but this was my most wanted. I never even saw it in person, it was never on store shelves where I lived.
If I ever fall into a load of money I'm tracking one down just to fulfill my childhood dream. Looks like if they ever do appear on ebay the price goes into the thousands...
I asked for this for Christmas around 1993-ish and my mom ended up getting this one instead:
It couldn't transform and the only removable parts were the legs... for... some reason?
She tried at least. ❤︎
Holy shit what a cool toy! I think this would totally sell nowadays and if I knew of it's existence in my infancy I would do anything to have one. Always had a love for dinosaurs and miniatures. This this this

I first remember seeing the Penguin thing at a friend's house and was utterly captivated. It's one of my earliest memories. Whoever designed that really understands how some kids' minds work.I totally wanted the penguin thing too - I'd see it displayed at toy stores, and my child brain was hypnotized.
But I wanted to ask about the above, if it's not painful to share - how on Earth did your mom make you feel bad for playing with that construction set? I can imagine trying to steer you away towards "girl toys" in the store, but once you owned it...I can only picture something surreal, like "oh hey playing with boy toys again i see, what a stupid, those are only for boys you stupid". To imagine a mother getting salty about her daughter playing with construction toys feels more complicated than regular homophobia; especially since you had fun with toys aimed at girls too.
I still get jealous when I see little kids rolling in a Power Wheels. I have a real car...

These and standard Star Wars Storm Troopers were the white whales of my early childhood. Eventually got a Storm Trooper though after repeatedly getting undercut by some asshole who would show up at store opening on restock days and buy out the whole stock.
i wanted any ninja turtle but never got any. any free money i had went towards nintendo games.
They're not so bad the consoles themselves now, but the games, hoo boy. I was lucky to grab a NeoSD pro before they sold out.
I had a turbo express (along with a turbo grafx). We had the tv antenna adapter too. Was great for car trips as a kid lol.I knew someone in grade school who had one. And yes, his parents were loaded, he went to a private school from middle school onwards.
He also had one of these:
