What do you predict it will score?

  • 100 (First Perfect Metascore Baby!)

  • 95-99 (Sorry Sakurai, Still Not Perfect)

  • 90-94 (As good as Brawl)

  • 85-90 (Worse than Brawl)

  • Below 85 (does it even count as a game at this point?)

It does make sense.

I cannot think of another fighting game with as much content as Ultimate.
74 fighters
103 Stages
900+ Songs
A single player story mode
Fanservice of nearly all games, period, via spirits
Not being on Wii U
Not being on 3DS

It's the perfect storm.

Plus the fact that Smash is way more accessible than any other fighter.

I think this one will rock the charts.

Only thing I think could hurt it is the online which IMO remains sub par.

It's easy to predict its metacritic score, just use the well established formula,

(Number of characters + Number of stages + number of items + number of assists + number of pokemon + Number of songs)/Number of spirits

Which gets you 98.5. No need for speculation when we have science

Let's see. I think it'd get 96-97? I mean, i would be really happy if it gets a 100.

It will be 98-97 initially, and everyone will be stoked, then it will drop to 96-95 and everyone will RAGE.

Placing the bet down. I'm sure some will be let down by World of Light not being Subspace 2.

I mean the lack of cutscenes compared to SSE might be noted but at the same time WoL seems to be a vast gameplay improvement from it

Unlike Smash 4, it actually has appealing modes. Heck, tournament mode alone makes it better than what Smash 4 threw at you (smash tour eeeeew)

Ya, I dont think smash tour was meant to be as important as WoL is going to be since other modes branch off of it too.

also I liked smash tour
I liked it too. But going from Brawl to Smash 4 can be seen as a huge disappointment from Subspace to nothing. Yet it still got a 92.

Yeah, and 4 already did exceptionally well critically.
I think people are underestimating it a bit.
Yeah, the one thing I see that could truly bring it down is the lack of newcomers and new stages compared to the rest of the games in the series

But even then, the stage count is doubled from 4, many of old stages have gotten a significant upgrade, plus the hazard toggle and three forms for EVERY stage and most of the few newcomers that were put in are longtime requests. Not to mention no cuts.

I'd say 94 MC/OC, it's going to be criticized for the lack of mode like Homerun Contest / Break the Target / Stage Builder.

Has to have better scores than RDR2, which was reviewed with no online and a lot of lenience to the slow rythm and animations... so 98+

Critic Consensus: Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a near-perfect celebration of the long-running crossover extravaganza, but a somewhat bewildering single-player experience holds it back from absolute glory.

Online and single player modes are whats gonna sway the score from a 95 to just a 90 personally.

WoL could be really good but im lamenting the lack of other modes. It truly better be quality over quantity.

I don't think lack of newcomers or new stages will be common complaints, simply because, as you point out, they're not reasonable complaints.
I think for good or for bad (mostly good), Smash Ultimate will be assessed on its own merits.

Personally I'm predicting it to be one of the lower rated Smash games. I can see reviewers not being impressed by the amount of reused content, not being impressed with World of Light, and not being impressed with the online.

I expect people to be harder on this game than the past in the series. Expecting a lot of 'recycled content' comments.

I have a feeling WoL and Online will be top issues for most reviewers and will keep it in the low 90s, possibly Spirits as well and maybe even some remarks about missing modes like Target and Home Run Contest. But otherwise will be praised for its gameplay and commitment to having every single character ever plus a whole bunch of new ones.

It's interesting, it had never struck me these would be brought up as issues at all, but the frequency of this opinion makes me wonder if maybe it might not happen after all...
