Yeah unfortunately they ran smack into a lesser degree of Oblivion's level scaling issues... Again. I'm running all legendary superior weapons, quite literally the best you can possibly get in the game, and the enemies are starting to get really spongy at level 110+, I have most of the weapon damage perks unlocked, not sure what to do to raise my damage anymore. The combat is so ass. I don't know if the level scaling is broken or what but I'm level 102 with some pretty decent gear and everything is kicking my ass or a complete bullet sponge. Even if I knock player damage down to very easy, it still takes a ton of bullets to kill enemies.
Thanks for confirming I'm not crazy. I really enjoyed my time with the base game and I was excited to jump back in but this is really dragging down the experience.Yeah unfortunately they ran smack into a lesser degree of Oblivion's level scaling issues... I've definitely noticed some of this, though it's sporadic. Some enemies go down without a fight, others are a slog and a half wearing down. It reminds me of Point Lookout in Fallout 3, though not nearly as egregious. Those cannibals remain the most overtuned enemies in BGS' historyThe combat is so ass. It's incredibly bizarre. They know people spend hundreds of hours in their games, but have never been able to design around people reaching high levels. Thanks for confirming I'm not crazy. Steam Reviews are mainly people who have beelined the main quest and not touched other content or people spouting the same anti Todd/Emil stuff that some gamers seem to love. There is some valid criticism in them but they are a lot of noise.
You must read the reviews, most people seem to be upset that it is more of Starfield. Others are this sort:
I also started this at level 40, and aboard The Oracle I just found that I have to be more alert when applying the 40+ health and 40 + trauma packs in my inventory (both on quick select). The enemies can damage you quickly, but even with zero manual health upgrades (just let it grow to 1000+ HP by leveling up) and no points spent in the combat tree, I found them easy to deal with once I kept routinely applying the health packs. Silver lining is I am finally leveling up the Gymnastics perk. I just sort of incidentally went into this with three skill points to spare (was focused on increasing crew size in the main game, but that seemed like it would be pointless for the duration of Shattered Space, so started banking them).I am at level 40 and am getting fucking wrecked at the beginning of the DLC mission. Not sure I expected that and I haven't really played since launch.
There's a bug in this (unsurprisingly). I had to enter a cave to look for someone, which I did, but I came back out, took down a number of phantoms or whatever they're called, and now I have no idea where the cave is and the mission marker points me to my ship. Guess I'll have to watch a vid on youtube to find the caves location again.
Oh, is this a reliable way to earn achievements still with mods on Series X or is it just PC?
This is one of the more sensible Starfield assessments I've seen. Totally agree now that I'm a few hours in. A POI generation update at some point and another expansion would really put this game in a great place. Still, I'm enjoying what's here and appreciate the work of the devs in spite of the mind numbing discourse.Got to do a few hours of the expansion. Overall I like it and I was happy to see how many unique environments the expansion has in just the opening hours. The fashion of the new planet is interesting too. I was curious how Bethesda would design an isolated space cults casual wear. Like a lot of Starfield the designs came out feeling scifi but practical. I also like the new town we get to visit. I'd say this is a much better successor to the idea of Winterhold from Skyrim. A once great city reduced to the brink of complete eradication thanks to a disaster. There's enough here that the player can actually imagine how great a place it must have been once. Compared to Winterhold where it's hard to think anything of it.
I also see why Bethesda decided to not send out review codes in advance. I don't think the expansion is bad. But it's clear just a few hours in. That if you didn't like the gameplay loop of the base game. Shattered Space will continue to do nothing for you. I have my own thoughts on the overall design of this expansion. But I think I'll save it till I play more. But for now I'm leaning towards thinking Bethesda threw in the towel and went back to designing a giant world space with lots of things in it. Instead of the Starfield method of 10-20 spaces of varying sizes. With lots of unique stuff in them.
I think the expansion is a little overpriced at $30. But not much point complaining. $20 expansions for games like these don't really exist anymore. Just too many people working on it to make it work.
All that being said my next hope is that the rumored second expansion is real and we hear more soon. I really do like Starfield and I'd like to see Bethesda expand on it in fun ways.

10 hours? Im at 5 and haven't completed a quest past the introductory onesMaybe I'll get this in the future for 10-15 bucks. 10 hours for near 100% and no additions to gameplay is just not good enough for 30 dollars. It's actually insulting.
Anyone playing through the DLC below the recommended level 35? If so, what's your experience been like thus far?
Agreed. It's hard for me to justify buying DLCs this short for a high price ever since Witcher 3 Blood & Wine was $20 and gave you 30+ hours of content.Maybe I'll get this in the future for 10-15 bucks. 10 hours for near 100% and no additions to gameplay is just not good enough for 30 dollars. Yeah I'm convinced if you wanted to do the main story, all side quests and visit most of the POI it would be upwards of 15 hrs.10 hours? Im at 5 and haven't completed a quest past the introductory ones
I am, it's not too bad (lvl 15 right now), gear drops in the new content catch you up quick, specially the varuun guns which are way better than anything you may have dropped in the base game.

Yeah I super trust Morts reviews and he is overall a fan of the base game as well. $30, 10 hours, good expansion that has flaws. It's one of those things where I already bought the premium edition and have definitely gotten my money's worth from the base game so I'm not complaining, but objectively it's really lacking.Mortismal gaming said a comprehensive playthrough is about 10 hours, he already has his 100% review out despite getting the DLC same time as everyone else and several steam reviews claim it's short but you might be a super slow player idk.
I do think it's pricey for what it is, BGS has been pretty bad with their pricing this gen for DLC and Creations overall. I hope they take a better look at that long term.Mortismal gaming said a comprehensive playthrough is about 10 hours, he already has his 100% review out despite getting the DLC same time as everyone else and several steam reviews claim it's short but you might be a super slow player idk.

Oh is THAT what the choices influence?! I was curious!Do you get a different moniker depending of your choices at the beginning?
They call me diviner and I put on a stream for a little bit and they were calling the streamer something else
I'm Vindicator! That's pretty cool. They call me diviner and I put on a stream for a little bit and they were calling the streamer something else
All valid points - the one critique I see on the main subreddit that resonates is that $30 should get you new ship parts and at least one new offworld PoI.I find the seemingly broad distaste around the price to be super interesting seeing as quantity doesn't equal quality. The DLC appears to achieve and in some ways exceed the base game in terms of quality going off of reviews... asking a premium for current gen development is completely understandable and more sustainable to meet expectations.
Also... kind of funny how Nintendo seemingly can get away with charging whatever they want with few people batting an eye.

I don't think those are too much to ask for what you're paying?
Yeah stuff like that will be in free updates, not expansions. For sure... but they did just give us a free vehicle, and I suspect we're in for many more improvements in the future. Perhaps they're trying to figure out how to keep the train running while giving out as much as they can.
Though it certainly would have been nice if the DLC included some more extras for that price.
Prices inflate while game length deflates, lolSo five bucks more expensive than Far Harbor and half as long?
Damn.
I think it being free is for the best. They should have kept the rev 8 for the expansion as content
But then people would complain it's not free
While everybody else is focusing on playing the new city I went to the new planets to explore, so far I've completed 2 of them and found some new small POIs (at least I haven't seen them anywhere else). Natural and human made. I also found 5 new caves (didn't take photos of them though).
Sorry I forgot to get the names.
