The Ringer also did a piece where they dug heavily into the origins of The Mask comic and how it relates to the film.

If you're ever in Cancun, there's a nightclub that's themed after the Coco Bongo club from the film. Pretty easy to find since it's named, y'know, the Coco Bongo.

IMO the Mask holds up the best among all of Carrey's films - though I"ll possibly concede the point to Dumb and Dumber.

Fun movie back in the day.

I'd love for someone to do a more faithful adaptation of the comic though, with all the crazy over the top violence.

Like many 90s kids obsessed with everything Jim Carrey this one was like a rocketship to another planet coming off Ventura and Dumb and Dumber. I was enthralled by the then impressive CG, god this movie was so much fun. Then I discovered the comics and was stunned by the gore and violence. Similar thing with the og TMNT comics. First exposure the 90s animated series and toys, then the comics. Just a bit of a different vibe there lol.

They are both terrible movies, on a scale of 1 to 10, they're both below a 5 - they're shitty in some different ways, some the same, but at some point it doesn't make sense to really find the nuance in how much they suck compared to each other.

I wouldn't dare watch them back to back, let alone one at a time at this point in my life.
