In terms of 90s Carey vehicles it's definitely up there. It's this, Dumb & Dumber, or Liar Liar for me in terms of the movies that hold up.Unlike a lot of "90s kids" movies this one actually holds up pretty well. Probably the best Carey vehicle from this period.
Ace Ventura has aged like milk left out in the sun. I re-watched Liar Liar recently and tbh I found it pretty bad, like it's this weird mix of wacky Jim Carrey and schmaltzy 90s family entertainment, plus a lot of the humour is pretty lame. Dumb & Dumber also holds up well, but I guess I've always (wrongly?) associated it as more of an adult film, and so less for the 90s kids crowd. In terms of 90s Carey vehicles it's definitely up there. Ace Ventura has aged terribly
As a kid I thought her scenes felt weird. I was an innocent boy back then so when I rewatched it after my "awakening" as an adult...
Rewatching Ace Ventura a few years ago (I think) sure was an eye opener.Ace Ventura has aged like milk left out in the sun. A little of both, he had prosthetics put on him (chin, cheeks, bald cap, etc) as well as green make up, I don't think it was a complete mask that covered his whole head. Jim Carrey's face is just elastic as fuck.Great film. Was it an actual mask they had made or was it make up?
Thing about Dumb & Dumber is though it has plenty of wackiness, the vast majority of the humour isn't slapstick but just dialogue based.Ace Ventura has aged like milk left out in the sun. It's not bad or anything, but it's very, very different. Way darker.
1994 was a hell of a year for Jim Carrey, with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb & Dumber back to back all catapulting him to the A-list.
Damn it, I laughed at my desk.

The line delivery by both Carrey and Jeff Daniels is pitch perfect. Some of the best I've seen in a comedy. I actually find it one of Daniels' best performances, even though he's normally a serious actor.Very true. I saw Dumb & Dumber for the first time not that long ago, and it impressed me quite a bit. I've always seen the wackiness emphasized - never the heartfelt performances, or the character-driven comedy. It holds up beautifully.
- I can't feel my fingers any more Lloyd, they're...they're numb!
- Maybe you should wear these extra gloves. My hands are starting to get a little sweaty.
- Extra gloves...? You have a pair of extra gloves...this whole time?
- ...Yeah. We're in the Rockies!
- ....I'm gonna kill you.
- Hwat?
- I'm gonna KILL YOU!
Back when Ben Stein tricked the world into thinking he was an intellectual.
just spit water out everywhere.
I LOOOVE how Dorian is tidying himself up in this scene.
yeaa... unfortunately one of the things I don't like about the movieDo you aware that she was 16 when she was in that movie, right?
