Yup, mainly referring to what you mentioned. But hopefully things will improve from now on.
I doubt that any RE Engine games will come to the Switch, but I'd imagine that the system will still get games like Ace Attorney & Mega Man even after the next-gen consoles drop. As for their fighting games, we'll see when the inevitable Street Fighter VI is revealed in a year or two.

All I can say is: LOL Inafune.

They are hands down one of my favorite modern developer houses right now.

Super happy for DMCV. RE2 should sell much more. Still really weird to me that Monster Hunter World is their biggest seller, where did that come from.

Capcom has been on a downward spiral for like ten years. Just disappointment tbh.
But yeah, they finacially recovered if that's what you mean.
More like 5 years, in my opinion. 2014 is when their output started to slow down, but they had pretty strong lineups of games for most every year before that.

They had it rough last gen so it's kinda understandable they don't have enough workforce to please everyone. As for SF VI, I imagine they aren't in need of someone interested in an exclusive deal anymore now that they are more stable. They must have been gearing up for the next consoles as well.

did capcom expect reasonable sales for the games or did they expect 10's of millions of copies sold?

Real talk, I'd imagine that X9 would be next in line, though I'd welcome Legends 3 with open arms.
Yeah X9 is almost for sure next (which I'm totally cool with), I'd just love for them to do something crazy and unexpected like a new MML. Actually, now that I think about it, a Crash/Spyro style remaster/remake of MML 1 and 2 (with some control improvements) would even be pretty awesome. And assuming they did well could lead to a new entry.

If I recall, SFV would have come out in 2018 without Sony's help. Sony's funding basically sped up the process by 2 years.

They lost a ton of money on unsuccesful properties like Remember me, Lost Planet, Dark Void, Bionic Commando etc etc. But yes, people were concerned particularly in 2014, when the generation transition was happening.
I thought we weren't talking about the financial aspect. But sure, they've been doing better in terms of both game quality and profitability than they were since 2014.

Inafune is a legend. Just because Mighty No. 9 bombed don't mean he didn't have great reason to leave Capcom when he did and try to do things independently.

Next step is to take over the card game world with Teppen

They got me playing card games somehow. Teppen is hella addicting.

As an end user I'm even more glad to see that these games are actually good. Like people begging for more dlcs kind of good. Keep it up Capcom!

Happy they cut their losses early with Deep Down/Pantea Engine and did what they excel at.

To think that Capcom once dreamed that Dragon Dogma would sell 10 million copies.... Years later they finally achieve that success with Monster Hunter. Congrats.

Hope they can scoot some of that into a nice port of Viewtiful Joe everywhere yeah?

I know......that's not a last gen game so it would be more effort than they've done thus far. I'm just tired of VJ not getting respect put on his name.

They knocked it out of the park with Resident Evil 2. Great to see them at their renewed best.

Yet some keep wondering why Capcom is focusing on high end big budget games targeted toward the west!

I can't say I'm impressed. Monster Hunter was a big hit but Resident Evil and Devil May Cry should be doing better numbers. Its expensive to make those kind of games these days and Capcom only has a few IP left that can sell big numbers. They need to release more new games.

This is well deserved
RE VII is great and the VR idea was a huge success and very brave.
MHWorld is really a step up for the series, and has great support.
I havent playet yet DMCV and RE2, but from the Demo I can say they look both really good.

And all these games have not major bugs as far as i know. (not important ones at least) So no user that have to beta test games!

Also dont we forget the Onimusha HD!

I agree I'd like to see more new IP, but this was a generation of righting the ship for Capcom. Last gen left them in a pretty rough place, and they had a false start with Panta Rhei...just ending this generation in a financially stable position was enough of a goal, so I understand why they wanted to stabilize their business using proven IP that felt like sure bets. It wasn't that long ago that it seemed like "Cacpcom" was about to go the way of Konami.

I do hope we see them take more risks in the future, now that they can afford to.
