Does Sekiro even count in the same ballpark?
There's no equipment whatsoever. It's a regression compared to Souls and Bloodborne.
Yes. There's less choice now. There is some equipment. And why is it a regression? Just because it's a different genre?
Yes. There's less choice now.
There's only one type of build and encounter. Thus, there's only one strategy to overcome every encounter.

It's what happens when Zelda and soulsborne have a baby, so it's a ZelsborndaSekiro isn't a Souls game. Are people really having trouble grasping this?
Yes, that's the thing. They have less balancing work now because there's only one build. Which means there's less choices for players. That's not how any of this works.gif
The lack of gear/rpg mechanics means the game can actually be better balanced than the Souls games. And from what I've seen the combat is also faster paced and more fluid.
For example, to beat the Curse-Rotten Greatwood, there are several possible ways (melee, sorcery, pyro, etc):Uhm, this is not a Dark Souls game. There are no "builds" and they are not necessary for this kind of game.
Also there are clearly several ways to clear encounters as evident by seeing any of the preview videos.

They replaced all those builds with different dodges, so now there's 4 dodge buttonsYes, that's the thing. They have less balancing work now because there's only one build. Which means there's less choices for players.

Now it's an action adventure with a fixed character that "levels up" by finding new utility items, learning new moves, upgrading his swords, or finding 4 orbs to increase his health bar.

I saw someone type Blood Bourne the other day and I just wanted to throttle them.Let's just go ahead and remove the borne out of that name. At least you're not like the monsters that spell it "bourne". That makes me twitch.
Sekiro isn't an RPG, has no MP, and you don't lose shit when you die. It's not a Souls-like or Soulsborne game... Sadly.
Oh really? Can it be recovered like in Souls? You lose half your exp and money when you die. There is also more to dying and how the world changes, which was shown in the previews.
