So this is like Final Fantasy in that each entry is standalone project and you can just dive into 2 without playing 1 right? What sets RS games apart as a JRPG series from other ones though? What are its defining features? Also, is RS related to the SaGa Frontier games in any way?

If anyone was curious about how it compares to the original.

The English website is still available here: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/romasaga2/en/sp/
And it's been updated just a little bit regarding the new releases.

Totally gonna get this on my Switch.

Also I really like that Spline-y animation for the enemies? Seems like a pretty decent way to implement animation with the pixel art.

Yes they are unrelated storywise. SaGa as a franchise is unique because they are more freeform adventures with lots of freedom in character growth and story progression. There are typically no traditional levels or exp, instead encouraging players to use the weapons/skills they like to, and you get better at that stuff and learn new skills of that type through RNG+frequency of use. They also tend to be somewhat hard and rather obtuse, but provide story experiences that are different from chosen heroes saving the world through a traditional journey. You generally still "save the world" but it's very personal motivation based and the stories tend to be about people and places.

Awesome thanks.

Kinda tempted to grab it for PS4 if it has Vita crossbuy, but in all likelihood I'm probably gonna grab it on Switch.

Yes! I've been waiting for a PC port since the mobile announcement awhile back. Almost broke down and picked it up a month ago.

I wonder if they will add any of the unfinished content to RS3 remake. That game was rushed to market and it shows...

you know, it never even occurred to me that the game wouldn't be cross-buy, but they actually haven't mentioned anything about that have they?

as the one person in existence who has a Vita TV, Switch, PS4 and laptop all still hooked to the TV, I really have no clue where I should buy this game.

It's up on PSN now in Europe - doesn't seem to be cross-buy, which is a shame. Kind of makes me think I'll be going for the Switch version.

It's Xbox Play Anywhere (Xbox One/Windows 10 cross-buy) but only cross-save on PS platforms.

Yeah, I'm hyped for this but even I doubt I can justify paying twice just to have cross-save on Sony consoles.

Besides controls, are there any changes between this new version and the Smartphone version? ¥3200 is a large pill to swallow.
