It's on GamePass for console and PC so even if you don't have that, you can definitely try it out real easy with a month for a dollar or a free trial or something.

I thought someone went over 100, which suggests that 3 digits are fine. There could very well be a hidden 4 digit limit, so maybe plan to top out at 999 until told otherwise?

Yes, since Switch doesn't have gifting, you're limited to what games are available from third parties, which is not the full catalog.
