It's really hard to develop a completely new fighting IP. People have been attached to their favorite characters and franchises for decades.

But yeah, if someone can do it than it's Arc System.

Let them make a new fighting franchise and then add Playstation mascots as dlc.

I'm okay with the idea of Playstation getting its own fighting game, but we all know that won't happen for at least the next few years.

Sony is a partial owner of Dimps…👀
There's also Arika.

A Darkstalkers / Killer Instinct new IP would excite me.

PS5 #1 in June what happened? I thought we agreed to boycott!
As if people needed another reminder that a "bad showcase" doesn't mean anything to the average person that buys consoles lmao.
Yup. May showcase didn't discourage the general audience at all. They are nowhere near as easily affected by the enthusiasts worries.

A new fighting game IP would be difficult to make nowadays. Any new IP would need to bring some sort of innovation to the table with how saturated the market is if they can't rely on brand power and legacy characters. A lot of fighting game fans also love their preferred fighting games' lore, and it's almost impossible to build out an expansive lore unless they give it a big budget which I find to be unlikely.

I don't really see Sony green lighting smaller budget games nowadays so I feel that it would have to be an indie game situation where they partner up with a smaller team. I guess they could contract another fighting game developer to make one for them, but I feel that most wouldn't do it and would rather focus on their own IPs.

Sony found a studio to make a Car Combat Game (at least we thinking that Firesprite will be able to do it), I'm sure they could find a studio to make a fighter.

Ono works for Sony
Just talk with Warner Bros and acquire Netherrealm Studios including the Mortal Kombat IP.

Was playing something when my console suddenly turned off. Shut down completely, getting hot at some parts. T'was scary. Quickly cleaned it and let it cool off.

I hope this was just a one time thing..

There is a rumor going here in Brasil that with the latest PS5 OS beta you can use PS Now in Brasil trough a PSN USA account.
Really curious if Sony is expanding the service to our region, that would be awesome !
Will have the confirmation later with a friend that is a US PSN user and lives here.
I don't want to create false expectations once again.

Hopefully I can use PSNow in Chile before I die 🤣😭

Beat FFXVI still reeling from how good it was and I got the huger for good games still. I tried Ghost of Tsushima after putting off and early on, I'm surprised by how many ideas it has. I always wrote it off as an AC lite because that was the prevailling attitude around here. But wow, it feels pretty fresh imo. Obviously still burrowing from established open world templates, but it does feel different.

Honestly Jim Ryan is so lucky, everything he touches becomes a success. Nobody exepected Dualsense Edge to be so successful, yet it did. Nobody expected Ps5 to sell even better than Ps4 and yet it's happening. Nobody expected a Twisted Metal series was going to be good, but it's actually good. Without even speaking about the enormous The Last of Us series success.

It's definitely just luck. I'm sorry for everyone that doesn't like Ryan but he is going to stay as Playstation CEO for a long time.

It could be that the PSU is clogged with dust. I had the same problem where if I played any PS5 game it would just shut off without warning. I was so worried that I would have to buy a new one, but it turned out to be a really simple fix.

PS Indies and XDEV expansion was apparently his idea too.

I hope one day we give the credit where it's due and not call it luck 👍👍. You may not like him personally but professionally he is making playstation *the* biggest brand in gaming

Jim also turned the PS3 into a big success in Europe, arguably the accomplishment that got him the job at the top.

For some reason people think that because he gave some awkward interviews it must mean he's terrible at managing the business.

Jokes aside Jim Ryan may be not a likeable person, he also has some shitty ideas, but he knows how to run a business, it's not luck.

He was the first one to take the risk to sell first party games at 80€, but it worked. Not only that, competition adapted to this model too, so now Sony is not the only bad anticonsumer company anymore. Same with the price raise in selected countries, he chose the right time to do that, and Sony now is not only selling Ps5 at lowest price ever thanks to temporary price cuts, it also happened that Microsoft took the decision to raise Xbox consoles price in the worst possible period just when Ps5 is starting to cut prices.

Right now you can find Ps5 at a price as low as 450€, while Series X is at 550€.

I hope one day we give the credit where it's due and not call it luck 👍👍. You may not like him personally but professionally he is making playstation *the* biggest brand in gaming

I don't like him, that's true, i don't like how little he seems to care about games in general but he manages to take almost always the right decisions at the right time. That was just a joke, of course.

Also, the Circana numbers show what I thought they would: that, aside from the system reveals, showcases don't tend to swing momentum much one way or the other.

He was largely responsible for making PlayStation a dominant force in Europe, so it makes sense they tapped him to be in charge of the whole ship. I'm pretty curious to see who would succeed him though. I'm leaning towards Eric Lempel since he recently was promoted to a position Jim Ryan previously had before he took the CEO position.

Eric seems like a great candidate and yeah Jim seems to have likened Eric's work that's why he got promoted to Jim's old position like you mentioned 👍👍

It's honestly wild how much PlayStation basically pigeonholed themselves into the general public's mind as the default gaming platform. I still think back about the SNL skit (one of the few funny ones) where they talked about how much they wanted the PS5 when it just came out. How it became a name nearly synonymous with gaming. I mean it makes sense since they didn't do a repeat of the PS3 and just played it safe by coasting off the waves of the PS4's success. That's all they really need to do to keep staying where they are. Just keep riding the waves and keep expanding wherever necessary.

Don't worry, people here on Era write insane things all the time, so it's not easy to understand when someone is joking. 😊

Just the other day someone wrote something so insane in that FF XVI thread that i don't understand if it was genuine or an attempt to create a new meme.

Well, Jim Ryan expected all these things lol
I don't like him as the face of playstation, but yeah, can't argue with results, guy is super competent.

Jim Ryan should get on Twitter and complain about the Diablo IV Season 1 roll-out. Get some of that sweet "One of us!" energy that Phil Spencer cultivates.

Showcases do not swing momentum, who ever believed this does not understand market trends.

Just bankroll & co-dev Marvel vs Capcom 4.

It wouldn't be surprising if SIE & Marvel are looking into what else they can do together beyond Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 & Wolverine but with 3rd Party Devs like Capcom, Arc System Works, Platinum Games, or CyberConnect2. And so if SIE wants to produce an EVO Mainstay, then the safest bet would be a new RE Engine Marvel Vs Capcom with Capcom & XDEV developing and SIE & Marvel co-producing.

It'd be a good worthwhile opportunity for each of them too like synergy for the upcoming MCU Avengers Films & another game for Capcom's Cup Tournament, while repairing any bitterness Marvel & Capcom might have between them during & after the tragic Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite development, release & post support.

really glad that Media molecule was allowed to make Dreams. Lost so many hours today in it lovingly and Tren game is so good. It amazes me how deep some of the creations are.

I don't think he'll stay long. He's been at the company for a while even before taking over, I could see him leaving while riding high just like House and Kaz did. Thing is, I'm not sure who could replace him at the moment.

He has been with the company before the PS1 released and has seen every gaming trend and transition for almost 30 years.

Depends on how old he is. If he's like Shu's age, who's in his upper 50's, then he'll stick around until the PS6 launches in 2027/2028 and then change guard with somebody else.

In context I believe he does value what games bring to an audience. I remember there was some interview where he talks about enjoying playing video games with his kids, but it's perfectly okay that he isn't a gamer and doesn't pretend to be. When he made a quip about previous gen games looking ancient, it was a dumb comment but it's not like that really meant anything because BC is something that as a business leader he didn't choose to ignore, because it's valuable content, and PS+ has started offering classic games (though it could be much better).
