I wonder why they hold the Gold Rush during the day? With a young child in the house I have zero chance of playing VR mid day.

There must be a reason. Maybe to do with timezones for people playing in Europe, etc. I'm with you though. My 1 year old usually naps at this time so I thought I would get a chance to play a multiplayer game and enter but the servers are wonky.

Saw a video on this being playable in VR at GDC and got all excited thinking the latest alpha build had VR in it (Unless I'm missing something, it doesn't.)

Hadn't really been paying attention to it (even though I loved Ace Combat), but this game is gorgeous. This game could be amazing with VR.

Had a buddy come into town today, and he tried my VR setup. Last time he'd tried it was February 2017 when I took my Vive with me to Austin, Tx to demo. Time he'd tried it before that was 2014 with the DK1. So when he tried it in 2017, the leap was enormous for him. When he came by to my place, I cautioned him that the jump probably wasn't as big as it'd seemed between 2014 and 2017.

I was wrong. Dude walked away feeling like where VR is now is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was in 2017. Specifically, that both my rift and vive are wireless, which to this dude is the single biggest game changer. Also what blew his mind was that it's not pretty feasible to own two VR rigs. I have two different rooms set up for room scale, so, unlike in ATX where all the VR shit we did was solo, this time we got to do some co-op VR, and Raw Data with 2 players blew his fucking mind. Most importantly, however, is that he was floored at the price of the Rift. When he visited in 2017 in austin, even a single headset was prohibitively expensive for him. Now, with the current prices, he's actually interested in buying one.

When you see the upgrades little at a time, its hard to appreciate how much has changed.

Just discovered this video. Holy moly this is how all VR content should be shown. THIS actually conveys what it looks/feels like to be doing awesome shit in VR.

Youtubers that show off VR with shakey first person footage is not doing it any favours. But adding a spectator/3rd person camera + modelling, animating a full body avatar is probably too high a standard for smaller devs huh.

That game is awesome but messy me up with the orientation.

Beat Saber's release date announcement came with a new video too:

Looks good, Just bought BoxingVR and it's a good workout. Beat Saber looks pretty tough, Luke Skywalker playing Rock Band. Also bought Catan VR, will give it a try later.

Playing Fallout 4 VR has been mindblowing. Actually aiming with the irons on my pistol and trying to hit the charging roaches reminded me of trying to be accurate with my pistol in real life. It wasn't hard at all to get it playing with the Rift.

Just seen that the Samsung Odyssey is available for $399 with controllers in the states:

https://youtu.be/rPCEqzoxwdA

That might just be the best value VR setup available at the moment. You're getting the same screens as the Vive Pro, with the comfort of a PS VR style head mount, integrated audio, adjustable IPD and 360 degree tracking out of the box for nearly a quarter of the price of a full Vive Pro setup.

Yes, controllers do lose tracking when they're outside the FOV of the integrated cameras but most reports state that this does not have a huge impact on gameplay. Any owners on Era?

I've played a bunch of VR using WMR and the controllers losing tracking almost never interrupts gameplay oddly enough.

Biggest issue I had with WMR is performance in Steam being hit or miss. Even in a good PC.

So I didn't get Rez yesterday in hopes that Superhot VR or Lone Echo would go down today; should I get Rez (2€) or Superhot(7) with my credit? It kinda sucks I missed out on the duo packs and it makes pulling the trigger on Superhot sting more than it should, and in Rez's case I'm wondering if it might be better to get in on steam for the 2d mode...

Both are must own titles so you can't go wrong with either. I'd always recommend Rez personally but it's a game I've loved for over 15 years.

Superhot is pretty short but amazing.

Yeah they nailed the gameplay. Robotron 2084, Geometry Wars Reloaded, then Space Pirate Trainer. No hyperbole.

Bought a wheelstand so I can move my wheel (and leave it setup) around the apartment more easily and as such, I've probably used my Rift this weekend far, far more than ever before as it's a breeze to just jump into Project CARS 2 and just drive without having to mess around with mounting the wheel, adjusting the pedals and the usual shitshow of running cables...

Driving a screaming 5.0 liter 650BHP tail-happy V8 Supercar around Mount Panorama in VR is something that everyone should experience at least once in their life. Driving down The Esses is just such a rollercoaster and it's pretty much a dream come true.

Played through easy/normal and hard in To The Top. Took 6 hours but there are still a lot of Bonus levels and lots of medals to unlock.

What great game, best first person VR platformer I've played. Very creative levels and constantly new introduced mechanics (a shame the jetpack is only used in 1 level, that was awesome!). The sliding mechanics took some time to getting used to for me but in the end enjoyed the mix of all the different mechanics.
It's not easy for me to tell how difficult this game would be to handle in regards to motionsickness, I've experienced none but I usually don't. Can't imagine it is a game for everybody but if you can handle it then it's a must own imo.

Now I'm excited to see how well Sprint Vector compares to this, not going to go in for nearly 30 bucks tho. Someday in a sale!

I had to refund it. I've done some really stupid things in VR and didn't get much worse for wear, but that game seriously made my head start spinning. I hit a point where another couple minutes and I would have literally thrown up.

Vintage cars are my favorites. Especially with AC. You can really appreciate just what car porn some of those are while in VR.

I dunno. I find that fallout vr is pretty good about not making me motion sick but I get slightly motion sick with skyrim.
Fallout VR made me sick the minute I had control. I think it's when I teleport near an object or person, the game would automatically shift me a bit to the side of said object/person and that was an instant nauseous moment.

heh... I don't use fast travel (playing in survival mode and even before that I spurn the use of fast travel. If I'm fast traveling it's not a game I'm playing to rp/immerse myself in but just for plain fun or just at the point I want to finish the game. Bethesda games in general make me not want to fast travel cause I play them for immersion and rp <- even if their games are getting weaker for that aspect).

Worst game for me honestly motion sick wise so far is Elite Dangerous. I got used to the space ship part (but I think I have to build VR legs for it), but the vehicle part is so bad if I lose control of the vehicle at all that I can only do it on really tame missions where I can slowly operate the vehicle as to not be taking too many jumps (I think in general I can't stunt drive in VR... going up and down really quickly does it for me easily. Which is too bad cause it also is what makes me feel the most like I'm actually in motion/in the vehicle rather than in a game which is probably why I get sick). Hell, even thinking about doing a lot of jumping hills in that vehicle in Elite Dangerous has me associate it with vr sickness.

I'm going to have to take back what I said about Rampage VR. I would correct it to say it would be a hella fun game if the controls worked right. Almost every time I fail it feels like it's cause the controls were bugged out. Either it wasn't letting me move or it wouldn't let me throw an item if I had the porcupine dna equipped and accidentally told it to shoot it instead (if it was on a time out it wouldn't shoot and it wouldn't let go of the object I was trying to throw). Or falling under the map (I actually used that to cheat to pass the survival test to get Lizzie).

It's so sad. This game has the potential to be super fun but is ruined with how buggy the controls are (and this from some one who loves Bethesda games!!!). I'd pay for this game if it meant they'd actually put some effort into getting it to work right. I honestly feel it would be worth some money if it worked like it should and I'd prefer to pay for it and get it working like it should rather than it being free and working like it does now cause it would be so much fun!!!

Yeah it bugged out on me quite a bit, getting down from buildings can be difficult and timed missions become very hard or are timed extremely narrow. I'll give it some more chances over the next couple of days but with some extra polish it could have been way better out of the gate.

Does anyone with a Rift know what the deal is with the new Steam VR supersampling/auto resolutions? Does it not apply at all to the Rift? I'm fine with just using the Oculus debug tool which seems to apply to any application Oculus Home or Steam VR but I was just curious. I tried cranking it up and it doesn't seem to have an effect.

Edit: Pavlov update is about to release (tomorrow I think). I've tried it in Beta and it's a good improvement. If you haven't picked up Pavlov, do it! The updates are fairly slow but the gameplay is solid. Also, Pavlov Battle Royale is in the works! The best thing about this game is the workshop. There are only 3 official maps right now, but there are at least 50-100 workshop maps. Halo maps and Counterstrike maps are some of the better ones. It straight up feels like you're playing CS in VR! The only problem is the lack of quality control with these. Some of the maps are phenomenal, others are trash. I'd say at least 10 are really good though.

So I can't remember if I asked this at one point in this thread but is my 3570k at 4.5ghz holding me back with VR? I have a 1080ti for my GPU so I should be good there but I've been encountering apps and games where I can see minor stutters here and there and it's starting to give me a headache. The stuttering is mostly visible with my vive wands as I move them around but it's also visible in the environment if I look closely. One app I have is New Retro Arcade where the Neon map gives me bad controller stuttering even when it's empty. I also tried this Star Wars demo which had the same problem. No amount of setting changes helps.

Would suck if it's the CPU since I already spent quite a bit just to upgrade from a 780 to a 1080ti (which was fortunate timing late last year before GPU prices blew up)

The stuttering should be reprojection. Are you sure the stuttering might not be because of the recent steamer update? It was updated with automatic SS which seems to cause issue for some people because they set it too high for some applications. It in steam vr settings under video.

Your GPU can definitely become CPU bound even in normal games. Under normal circumstances, I think the 3570 naturally pairs up with a 1070. When you jump to a 1080ti, you're going to be CPU bound in a lot.

I also have a 3570k (with just a 1070) and I feel like performance has been lower for some time (nothing to do with SS). I'm genuinely wondering if Valve didn't up the resources that SteamVR uses. It uses quite a bit, but I wonder if it's even more now than before. I'm definitely upgrading my CPU in the next couple months (can't decide between Ryzen and 8600/8700k).

This is something I had a problem with as well since Core 2.0. Have you tried the 0.83+ version of Oculus Tray Tool? I haven't messed with it since Core 2.0 mucked with the paths, so not sure if it addresses that particular issue or not.

BTW, I fixed my problem with SteamVR (NON-Home beta) not showing my custom environments after installing and uninstalling Viveport.

Uninstalling and reinstalling SteamVR did not work. Switching to SteamVR beta and back to the regular branch did work. WTF is with that, BTW? Shouldn't uninstalling fix even more stuff? What are they doing?!
