Days Gone review

Zombies and the art of motorcycle maintenance.

They say that the port is good, but the game itself is not. For me personally this is a deep sale purchase, probably at 60-70% off.

I got it for 20 bucks and found it really mediocre on PS4 Pro. Like the article mentions unless you're into driving a bike and killing zombies in a meh open world you won't enjoy it.

It's one of the reasons no one had any hope that The Medium would be good.

wait we shitting on Bloober now?

I thought Observer was supposed to be good and I quite liked Layers of Fear. I'm confused...

edit: in fact I'll go one step further, I think Blair Witch is fine too, from what I played so far (2-3 hours, something like that)

No I'm talking about Blair Witch specifically, people were VERY underwhelmed by it.

Yeah Blair Witch is definitely their weakest game, I think I'm in the minority but I actually quite enjoyed The Medium.

Yeah about what I expected, the game was cheap on CDkeys so I ended up buying it. I'm glad the port is good though, and I'm hoping we get something like GoW next.

I'm curious: are there any "horror games" that aren't so... horrifying?

😅

I think I know what you mean. I don't really like horror games where I am not able to fight back. For example, Outlast and Amnesia stress me the hell out.

Maybe you could try more cinematic games like the Dark Pictures Anthology. Sadly, Man of Medan is only mediocre and Little Hope is a turd. Hopefully, Sony brings Until Dawn to PC. That game was brilliant fun.

You could also have a look at Kona. It's a mystery detective story in a remote village that is completely snowed in.

Another favourite of mine is Oxenfree. It is maybe technically an adventure game, but it is less reliant on puzzles and puts its emphasis firmly on mood, dread and a really well-told teen-horror story. And the soundtrack is phenomenal.

Don't get the "hate" for Days Gone, it was probably my Game of the Year in 2019, while it had some issues and was too long, I liked the characters and story a lot and the gameplay as well. Only Platinum trophy I ever had and still have so far, it's in no way a mindless zombie slayer with bike riding for me personally.

Days Gone tomorrow, stoked to play this amazing game again!

I couldn't agree less with the PC gamer reviewer. Days Gone is beautiful, fun and has a fantastic atmosphere throughout. Best zombie apocalypse game around.

Spent all weekend playing Mass Effect. What a series, can't wait to finish the first game and move on to 2 which is one of my favorite games ever.

I find myself indifferent to Days Gone, because I've never been big on zombie fiction. I'll wait to see if it comes to GOG later in the year. I wonder how long until Sony announce their next port project after this.

A few interesting Metroidvanias off my wishlist are releasing this week, and next week, Biomutant. Hopefully it reviews okay so I can justify a Day 1 purchase.

I've only played 2 of their games; I liked the Medium quite a bit but found Observer fairly dull

I can't say that i was ever that interesting in Days Gone but i would like to play it sooner than later.

Talking about mediocre games -
I played through Wooden Floor, which I won in a Giveaway. Well, "won" might be the wrong term here. The raffle had already ended some days ago, but nobody wanted to claim it. I felt so sorry for the poor thing, that I decided to take it in. 😿
It's some sort of scary first person walking sim, having low-budget/one-man hobby project written all over.
You wake up in a room, have to find a key every now and then or find another kind of item. Also a bit of platforming and some sort of puzzle. The special catch is, that rooms can change when you re-enter them. This might be a nice ide in theory, in reality it just forces you to go back and forth through the samey looking rooms, sometimes wondering how to trigger the next event.

It has some good moments and ideas here and there, but you can certainly see how it lacks polish everywhere. The music is good and atmospheric, and there are some neat visuals. But the enviroment is bland and empty, and there are some lame jumpscares. The platforming doesn't go well with the floaty controls, and checkpoints can be set a bit inconvenient, for when you fail.
For the big final there is a boss fight waiting. You have to avoid projectiles and similar for a certain time. One hit and you have to restart the whole fight. It's such a slog and proceeds so slowly, I gave up on it pretty quick. I didn't miss anything though, the credits roll soon after.

The game has nearly no options. And no real mouse support. For the little menu it does have, you need to press the number buttons, and ingame use E to interact. The mouse is only for moving the camera.

Respect for putting it out there, but eh.

From Bloobler ive only played the Blair Witch game, which was mediocre at best. When i get some time ill try The Medium out to see if they improved.

I only played Layers of Fear. It has it highs and lows, overall I was a bit underwhelmed. And I still remember the nearly non existing AA, and the devs told everyone complaining about it, it would just be "very subtle". 🙄
Watched a walkthrough of Blair Witch and Observer, didn't really do something for me. Peaked into the beginning of Layers of Fear 2 and decided against it, as well. Seemed worse than the first.
I was interested in The Medium, but aren't sure how it would run on my rig. Ended up watching a walkthrough again, and gameplay and story didn't convince me to get it. The split screen seemed more gimmick than an actual cool feature, too.
They put out interesting stuff, but it's just not really clicking with me.

I think we're going to see Sony ports come out more quickly after Days Gone.

did they pull the review?

and I have to admid, I either want to play a game, or I don't want to. so I don't really understand when people say: "oh, the reviews are bad, so I will wait for a sale."

agreed, it's just a value equation then, it doesn't make the game any better

"ah this mediocre waste of my time will be much better now that it's only $10"

Started Residen Evil 2. What a great remake. Remembering the old locations is amazing and the game feels super tense.

The game was deep sale buy for me anyway. It's definitely not just because of reviews.

Edit: I don't know what happened to their review.

Any hope to see Halo Wars 2 on Steam?
The Ultimate version is currently discounted, I wonder if I should wait or it's pointless.

It's kind of insane you cannot just buy a GPU you want to, even if it took some time for the order to be filled. Instead I enter into sweepstakes for the chance to buy the wrong item that is paired with another wrong item. And I still fail to be able to buy that.

Sort of agree, I still feel like they fucked up the route A/B stuff even though I can't remember what now. A certain someone should have been a route B character though. But this is my problem with RE, it never feels like Capcom can nail it, usually so close but still off by some..

Arkham Knight was ahead of it's time. I can't believe that it was released 6 years ago.
?
wasn't the driving sections especially recieved negativ?

the lack of the original A/B Scenarios was a huge disappointment.
and the implementation of the 1st/2nd Run was really bad..
