Couldn't break 9 million in 6 days.

Palworld's just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about capturing and enslaving cute creatures (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Pokémon where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Palworlds, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Palworlds player base, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Palworlds for the PS5 when it gets ported, nor will they purchase any of their DLCs. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Palworlds has alienated an entire market by not breaking the 10 million mark in a week.

Palworlds, publicly apologize for not being able to sell more units or you can kiss your business goodbye.

LMAO

Very long interview with Takuro Mizobe, CEO of Pocket Pair. He covers mostly everything: from production, to marketing, games and all...

And Im gonna say something: ya'll should take your time to read it... this dude is REALLY based o.O

Exclusive interview: Palworld dev talks about game’s influences, original assets and the possibilities of a PvP mode - AUTOMATON WEST

Exclusive interview with Palworld producer and PocketPair CEO Takuro Mizobe about how Palworld came to be. Mizobe discusses influences, hardships in development and the possibility of PvP.

He is spot on about lots of stuff.

I now have way more confidence in the future of this game.
Mizobe:

For Palworld, we made loads of original assets.

Well yes it is very much possible if you're cribbing off existing designs. It's like painting a room in a house and declaring that building a house is really easy.

Like, a lot of the obvious rip offs are a big deal but stuff like this is wild. They clearly made an absolute boat load of original stuff. That's really not helpful. A very large amount of work went into making Palworld, and it's a very fun and well made early access game. Some of the designs do appear to be at least partially copied or inspired, but even then the animations and meshes and rigs are different. Besides that, the technical parts of the game, the huge and extremely well designed open world, the plethora of survival items and equipment... It's a shame folks are taking what amounts to a relatively small part of the game overall and act like it's the entire thing.
They need to address it, 100%. They should be forced to fix the ones that are very similar, but to suggest that it's the same as painting a room in a house and declaring that building a home is absolutely toxic and doesn't contribute anything except painting a very different view of how this game was made.

Great interview. A lot of initial takes on this game were calling it pure cynical trendchasing (which wasn't helped by comments from the CEO where he basically agreed) but as soon as I played it I could tell that there was something really interesting about the combination of survival crafting / automation mixed with the kind of emotional bonds you get from a monster catching game, I just didn't know it was an angle they were intentionally trying to achieve. It kind of reminds me of what Pikmin is to the RTS genre, usually you don't care about your units (and even Pikmin are pretty expendable) but there's an extra layer of emotion going on there that makes you care about keeping them alive.

I hope they plan to overhaul a lot of the designs, the world design and animations with the insane amount of sales received, some of the pals look so ugly currently.

Yeah, animations are expensive and the fact they spend so much to give the Pals expressive animations shows they have an overall vision in mind.

Is crazy cuz I heard its building isn't as good as some of it's competitors?

I guess the Pals make all the difference.

the game indeed has its focus elsewhere

i don't doubt building probably will be addressed at some point so the basic process of building isn't like contracting tuberculosis (there's a very unintuitive way to actually build a stairs reliably for example) but pathfinding AI and player built structures are simply at odds with one another and it's p clear the main focus of the game are the Pals - more complicated geometry certainly won't help lol

seeing a lot of the youtuber 'best build i've ever done' backpatting videos for Palworld and it's an ugly flat stone edifice with a burger king hat roof because there's just not much you can do with the build pieces in the game and im all 'well, as long as you're having fun lol'

Yeah building is too barebones for me. >_< I hope we can get the foundation to build some proper exhibition pieces that don't clash with the way they plan to carry out Pal updates...!!

That's part of the concern for me, is that there are so many mechanics in this game that they could easily break something with an update or tweak, or easily introduce imbalances. Fingers crossed.

At this point I'm sure it will hit new peaks this weekend. I have been craving this game but I can't find the time to play it during weeknights much, what with playing sports and hanging out with friends or generally being too tired from work - more downtime over the weekend, particularly on Sunday afternoon, seems like when this game might see its highest ever concurrent users on multiple platforms.

hey ya'll, sorry about the shawnxbox tweet (although, minecraft ccu in XBOX prolly pretty big or something right? At least from some articles around, seems pretty massive)

Anyways, about the interview - two things I liked:

  1. The freedom to play as you wish: they intend to really give you the option for an all range of personality, from a giant asshole up to a PETA Supreme Commander. This is really cool.
  2. The PVP definitions and aspects: really spot on and they really do not intend to simply add it for the sake of. They know it needs to be a carefully tailored experience and not just free for all full troll stuff.

Still about the PVP implementation, during a debate in Discord, Bucky was also pretty reasssuring over the necessity of a cautious approach:

That good. I was really concerned PvP was just gonna be the lawless type and that would immediately turn me off. I do hope the PvP system allows you to battle other tamers and their Pals tho. Would be fun.

Can you picture it if they somehow made it like Armored Core 6 but instead of mechs you have to rig our your pals?

the buildmaster has spoken! lol

Yea, I guess people are just happy with their little "toys" right now. But Ive played so many survival games with way more advanced building and better looking build pieces. :D

i think of all the games past/present/future that uses the "large duplo block grid with premade pieces" and no rotation (which rules out Ark/Conan) like Forest, Raft, etc, Nightingale seems to have grasped and utilized the concept to the most impressive degree. Just a lot of great pieces that hide the blocky nature of the system. Hopefully Palworld moves in that direction even if it doesn't really allow clipping/rotational snap/etc
