No, I never buy new consoles day 1.

...unless Dragon's Dogma 2 is a launch title, then where do I pre-order?

i would bite at launch if their BC solution is good and the tech is there.

for me i'd be replacing my PS4 if the PS5 comes with full BC for PS4 and also it would act as my 4K Blu Ray player since i have yet to buy one. one reason i never did the Pro upgrade was the lack of a 4K player (my setup doesn't have space for too much things)

The original Playstation sold for $299, why is $499 in 2020 too high if the tech supports a major upgrade?

With that specs/tech involved, does anyone really believe they'll cost significantly LESS than 499 $? I think that's the low end/sweet spot for me personally.

What amazes me is the Pro is still $399. It's still going for $100 less than the rumored price point. They will have to permanently drop the PS4 to $199 and Pro to $299 to not completely kill PS4 sells. No one is going to get a PS4 when the 5 is only $100-200 more. Even if they couldn't afford it people would just wait.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. If it had a game I really wanted at launch, yeah. Usually that doesn't happen too often though. I bought an Xbox 360 Premium at launch and waited in line cuz i wanted DoA 4 in february and didn't wanna wait because I knew it would be sold out. Crazy thing is I coulda sold it for over 3k, but I didn't because I just wanted to play it! I'd just pre-order probably and go from there lol. I have no problem buying a console for one game if I realllly want it.

Every Playstation generation has been worth owning, so yes I will buy the PS5 at launch even if its $599.

If its the "High End" model, sure; Base model/low end? ...Nah. I can't justify spending more than $499 on a video game console, not saying this is going to be the case. But if scenario is, Base model starts at $499. Then I'm definitely waiting for a bit or investing into a gaming desktop or laptop.

I'll never buy the launch or base model of a console ever again after this generation. The whole 'pro' console thing felt like a slap in the face.

The console(s) would have to launch with what is literally an amazing, unmissable experience to make me want to pay this at launch.

I'm hoping we see more creative finance options direct from the manufacturers, like Microsoft's deal in the US. Spread the cost and incorporate your online subscription and this doesn't feel so bad...

I have so much stuff to play already. I can wait for a sale.

Only exception would be Nintendo launching a new console with a new Zelda game.

I just want a new console, base PS4 is too weak nowadays. I would gladly pay 500$ if PS5 is true backwards compatible with all PS4 games.

Easily.... I'd prolly sell my Ps4 pro for around $200 so a $300 upgrade sounds fair. Plus am guessing its going to be fully backwards compatible based on what we have heard so far.

PS5 for sure. The other consoles, I'll wait and see. Probably no MS console. Nintendo next maybe once there's a body of games post launch (like the switch I guess)

Honestly with gamepass providing a huge library at launch I'll be getting an Xbox at launch most likely even at 5000. Which I did not expect to be the case. Launch console with a paltry price to play the games is a pretty nice deal. PS5 will be after a price drop and a bunch of first party releases if it's 500. Unless it launches with bloodborne 2 in which case fuck my wallet.

I skipped the mid-gen refreshes. If backwards compatibility works well and can boost some of the games meaningfully, I will give it a go.

Never. I can live with my PC easily. Besides, my PS4 is right now used as anything except play videogames.

Waiting. Barely going to get myself an Xbone X, and PS4 (again). Between that and Gamepass? I'll be good until the first refresh of each.

Switch+ or whatever? I'll upgrade for I guess.

I'll actually be disappointed if the PS5 is that cheap. I hope they're more expensive (and more powerful to along with the price of course).

I spend nearly $1,000 annually on a phone. $500 on a console that I plan to use for the next 5-7 years is nothing.

I generally don't buy consoles at launch, especially if we're in a weird cross-gen gray area like the beginning of the current generation.

I got burned by a broken launch PS4 which took more than a month to be replaced due to shortages.
After that I didn't even use it that much until Bloodborne so unless PS5 has a killer app I'm dying to play...I'll probably wait it out.

499 is also quite high for a console and the concept of midgen upgrades doesn't really make me want to run out and get one immediatly.

$500 is a pittance for the amount of enjoyment video game consoles have given, and continue to give, me throughout life.

Easy buy

Is the Xbox one X still 499?
Or 399, doesn't matter.
I can't see next gen consoles launching at 399 in 2020.

✓ Yes, because backwards compatibility renders launch drought moot, the main downside to early adoption besides price.

This is true but on the other hand this could mean you'll probably have few (no?) next gen exclusive titles for a while.
If that is the case, it would take a truly spectacular upgrade to existing ones to make me consider purchasing.

Hell yeah I would. I bought my iPhone X for like 1200. 500 would be nothing for a top of the line console.

I buy consoles to play games. If games I want are there day one, so am I. I could also theoretically be compelled but back compat features ala Xbox One X.

However, on principle I prefer not to be day 1 due to manufacturing issues than tend to arise from launch units.(there's always something shittier about launch units)

Of course .. I bought a 2080 for a lot more than that and a console is a much better value.

Nah man. I'll play through my backlog and get it on sale a few years down the road at that price.
