Moscow reports one case, the patient of which just returned from Milan, Italy. This is the 3rd case in Russia (the two cases before are Chinese tourists; both have recovered).

Indonesia reports its first two cases

www.channelnewsasia.com

Indonesia confirms 2 coronavirus cases: President Widodo

JAKARTA: Indonesian President Joko Widodo said on Monday (Mar 2) that two Indonesians have tested positive for COVID-19, marking the first confirmed cases in the country. He was quoted as saying by Kompas new site that the two Indonesians had made contact with a Japanese person, who vis
Yep, it was just a matter of time.

I've accepted that the virus is already here since last month. It never made sense that it wasn't here yet.

Just don't actually do anything until you talk to your rheumatologist/doctor I start a new infusion in a two weeks (I think) but I see my doctor first and I will Express these concerns. Still, I feel like friends and family pressuring us because 'It won't kill us (right away)' to stop taking immunosuppressant medications is bullshit and just absolves them of guilt for not washing their damned hands.

Or maybe my family just sucks lol
You will still be immune-compromised if you stop taking your RA drugs. The nature of RA makes it hard for your body to fight off infections regardless of the drugs you are taking so if you stop your medication you will be susceptible to COVID-19 AND in miserable pain.

Whoever is telling you to stop is giving you astoundingly bad advice.

Also, that would be nice if people actually followed WHO guidelines. The amount of people just sneezing, yawning, coughing without covering their mouth or touching handles right after in public transportation is crazy.
This has always been disgusting. Hopefully people get paranoid enough after corona to not cough all over their hands and touch every pole / button possible in public transpo.

Wow my mom just told me that they (some "experts") said on the radio here in Germany that everyone will be immune in 2 months because everyone will be infected by then. But not to worry, most cases are not much different than when you have the flu. Very mild so to speak.

Fucking ridiculous. Everyone in two months with a 20% rate of people that need care in the hospital. That would be ~6-8 Million additional people in hospitals per month just in Germany if you take the two months he suggested. With a death rate of 2% that's 1-1.5 Million dead by the end of May.

and with overwhelmed hospitals, that death rate will rise.

El país is reporting that a patient in Sevilla was cured using a HIV drug:
www.google.com

Un fármaco contra el sida tiene éxito en la cura del primer contagio por coronavirus

El hospital Virgen del Rocío de Sevilla usa con buenos resultados un tratamiento experimental que combina los antivirales lopinavir y ritonavir junto a interferon beta

Obviously may only work for this person and one person doesn't mean anything but it's interesting. Sorry that the link is in Spanish.

Yep.

This is the correct way to cough and sneeze:

I've had 3/4ths on these symptoms for almost three weeks. Wife started the same a week ago. Live in Snohomish County, WA. There has been no trace contact with anyone directly overseas outside of an early interaction in January with a coworker coming back from Shangahi. I just assumed it was just a seasonal cold. Went into isolation late last week as a precaution, only going out at odd times to get supplies.

Not worried because our symptoms are mild and we are healthy. Just annoyed that there is no clear or straightforward way to get tested.

My husband read they are saying it is possible that it's been in circulation for 6 weeks in Seattle. Keep in mind we (Seattle) now had had a few cases they don't know where they got it from so it has been passed through people who have not been to China already. His is the first time I'm wanting to stay on the east coast (we are on vacation and we fly back today. We live in lynnwood, right next tot he town where the teenager got it).

It's been in China for 3 months already and still only a small percentage of their population caught it, "everyone" within 2 months is pushing it

My 10 year old son has Cystic Fibrosis, so I'm really nervous about this reaching us. I live in rural Ky, so I feel safer for once living in a shitty town.

We seen his specialist recently and he seemed very concerned, but said since China doesn't really have a CF population we don't really know how badly it will effect them.

I hate seeing people on FB downplaying it as nothing, people really cannot think about anyone other than themselves. Even had an old teacher I really admired make a long rant post about how she was sick of hearing about it, ugh.

The vireologist of the Charité in Berlin thinks 60-70% of the german population will be infected over the next two or three years.

This sounds a bit more realistic. The key is to have a vaccine and a proper cure for the symptoms as quick as possible to limit the number of people who need intensive care.

I saw a rather sharp friend downplay it as "as contagious as the flu and less deadly than SARS". There's a goddamn gulf of information missing in that handwave of a summary.

I'm not sure about that. I mean if the virus was already widespread in Indonesia, wouldn't we have seen pictures and videos of hospitals and people being sick on social media. Maybe the heat and climate did affect the spread of the virus? In any case, I hope it stays contained.

People are starting to get a little panicky though, supermarkets are so crowded. Saw this guy on twitter stocking up on the good stuff lmao.

I don't know where this originated (my mum just sent to me) but seems pretty legit advice.

Last evening dining out with friends, one of their uncles, who's graduated with a master's degree and who worked in Shenzhen Hospital (Guangdong Province, China) sent him the following notes on Coronavirus for guidance:
1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold
2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.
4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.
7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.
8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.
9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.
10. Can't emphasise enough - drink plenty of water!
THE SYMPTOMS
1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days
2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.
3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.
4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.

Edit:
The point 3 it's not yet proven as far as I know. And seems disproved by the fact that Singapore got a number of infected people. I guess we'll see.

My mom said Israel developed a vaccine.

I said even if it's true. How much are you going to pay for it in the USA? Go buy some supplies. Just in case.

Where the fuck are people getting this vaccine is here/ready only a few weeks out information?

If it's any consolation, I read there was a case in Rhode Island. It's not going to be prevented from spreading. People who don't know they have it will have already passed through airports or gone to major events.

Wash your hands. Take sensible precautions. If you catch it and can stay home, do.

Here in Germany politicians (Seehofer) say by the end of the year which is also extremely unlikely.

Not sure if this NY Times article was posted (I'd imagine it was since it's from two days ago), but I think it gives some nice, level-headed information about the virus and how it compares to the seasonal flu.

Not to be taken as a dismissal of course and I don't think the article does that anyway. Just a precaution in that sense.

www.nytimes.com

How Does the Coronavirus Compare With the Flu?

As new cases appear in the U.S., some — including the president — have compared it to the seasonal flu. Here’s a close look at the differences.

The reporting on potential vaccines seemed hopeful. I sure hope so.
Even if initial vaccine research is swift, any resulting vaccines have to go through many months (or longer) of testing on animals and then humans before they go in to mass production. And it's going to take a long time after that before there's enough vaccine to go around - patients with cardiac and respiratory health issues will get priority for the first batches unless you're willing to spend a lot of money privately.

Will be a very long time before you can just get a vaccine sadly.
