My "backlog" (I hate that term) is competing for time, but I've already bought the games. So they win I guess?
Exactly. And this is why I need your Switch to have Netflix, for fuck's sakes Nintendo! You're competing for my time so give me a reason to keep my Switch for a trip instead of an iPad by giving it Netflix when I don't feel like packing two tablets!he is not wrong. basically all entertainment companies, be it netflix, disney or nintendo are competing for time.
You know what also is always with people when they play their Switch? The Switch.
Actually it is.
Nintendo bubble. Time for them is different than Time for PlayStation & Xbox.
Still disagree, honestly. They make, develop, and sell Video Games. Playsation and Xbox are competitors regardless of whether or not they choose to recognize them as such(failure to seems like a bad idea, though.)
Comment of the year. Literally lol'ed.You know what also is always with people when they play their Switch? The Switch.
LOL, this made me laugh especially hard since I said the exact same thing "different for the sake being different, and for the worse" out loud to myself, right after reading that quote, just before I got to start reading through the posts in the thread, lmao.Voice chat via smartphone, he is basically saying "we do different just for the sake of being different" and that's actually a bad thing imo.
Why chose to have a worse experience on your platform.
Not to mention the fucking 3DS had Netflix!Exactly. And this is why I need your Switch to have Netflix, for fuck's sakes Nintendo! You're competing for my time so give me a reason to keep my Switch for a trip instead of an iPad by giving it Netflix when I don't feel like packing two tablets!
It's embarrassing that the Wii and WiiU had the damn app and yet the Switch still doesn't in a world where the Vita does have Netflix.
Meh, the fact that their subsidiary manages the world's biggest media franchise while includes be movies, cartoon, toys, and no.1 tcg entitled them to call themselves Entertainment company if you ask me.Still disagree, honestly. They make, develop, and sell Video Games. Playsation and Xbox are competitors regardless of whether or not they choose to recognize them as such(failure to seems like a bad idea, though.)

Sorry, but that is copied directly from Ars Technica.
I don't think Reggie is denying it so much as he's saying he sees the Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft fight as one part of a bigger arena.Nintendo IS competing against both Sony and Microsoft at this point - with good results so far. Denying this is a strawmen.
Goddamn I forgot the 3DS has netflix too.Not to mention the fucking 3DS had Netflix!
Reggie is right. I never got to play AC: Origins as Horizon and BOTW kept me busy for nearly the whole year. By the time I was ready to play it, other games I wanted to play a little more just kept releasing.
It was to divert attention from the Wii U flop. It is not needed anymore.
What's this person doing with her hand?
Goddamn I forgot the 3DS has netflix too.
So the 3DS, Wii, WiiU, and Vita all have Netflix and not the hot new console the Switch. Pathetic.
Meh, the fact that their subsidiary manages the world's biggest media franchise while includes be movies, cartoon, toys, and no.1 tcg entitled them to call themselves Entertainment company if you ask me.
Saying that Reggie is "Nintendo president" is quite misleading considering that he's just the one for NOA. Nintendo president is Furukawa.
Sorry, just a minor grip. lol
It's both. Let's not pretend nintendos not to blame here as well. And do you know what the Switch also have? Hulu, Niconico and in the future, a app for comics. It's clear that the problem isn't Nintendo when more companies are entering the console.
It went with Iwata unfortunately.
It's both. Let's not pretend nintendos not to blame here as well.
Also this console desperately needs YouTube as well.
Genuine question, do people actually go through the hassle of trying to play multiplayer games off their mobile data connection?
My data limit and phone battery weep at the thought. Not to mention the inevitable lag...
10:15 a.m. Miyamoto, Trinen leave the stage. Reggie speaks.
10:16 a.m.: "Minute by minute, we intend to steal more of that [leisure] time," he says, noting that people have many entertainment options at their disposal, from iPods to movies.
No, it is about chasing. We respect all of our competitors, and when I talk about our competitors, all of our competitors for entertainment time and leisure time. So for us it's all about getting more and more people into this category, and as we do that at the same time providing them more and more compelling experiences, so that more of their leisure time is spent on gaming.
Q.
So you acknowledge, then, that your competition goes beyond game consoles? There's Amazon, Apple and all these players who make set-top boxes.
A.
We've always viewed our competitors in a broader entertainment landscape because we compete for time. I compete for your time minute by minute. Getting a consumer to spend time with us doing a combination of fitness and fun builds our brand and builds our business.
I was thinking the same thing hehe. If you're going to use voice chat on the go while playing the Switch as well, of course you have the Switch with you too, not just the phone. You know what also is always with people when they play their Switch? The Switch.
Its an old stance indeed, but whats bad about the headline? Its what Reggie claimed in a recent interview.the idea behind this statement is over 10 years old
2007: https://www.ign.com/articles/2007/07/11/e3-2007-nintendo-e3-media-briefing-live-blog
2009: https://www.fastcompany.com/1307008/nintendos-innovation-console-qa-reggie-fils-aime
2012: https://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/14/one-on-one-nintendo/
this has always been their stance.
bad headline, extremely not new
