Right I made the post awhile back. It only came down to 3 IP's being Mario Kart, next 3D Mario game or BotW 2. Any of Nintendo's other huge IP's don't lineup as a possibility to release this holiday.Let's assume for a second BotW2 won't make it this year where both Microsoft and Sony release a new console. We know Pokémon will only get DLC this year which for itself is big but not big enough to count as a substitute for a big holiday title. We know that Mario 3D World will most likely get ported this year so I doubt we will see Odyssey 2. Animal Crossing is releasing in March.
So unless Nintendo suddenly doesn't care about their usual strong holiday line up which I really doubt BotW2 HAS to come out this holiday.
If Odyssey 2 or BotW 2 isn't ready, then yes I believe so.Even if MK9 was real I wonder if they would market it as THE holiday title for the year.
Kinda, at least some DLCDoes anyone here desperately want MK9? I still enjoy playing MK8D when I need that karting fix. I'd much rather see a new IP or a new entry in an older series *cough*F-Zero*cough*

Same, but I don't want to get my hopes up.
A hypothetical Splatoon 3 doesn't really do it for a huge holiday Nintendo release, right?

Nah.
I feel like only Smash, Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario are big enough to be the big holiday title
Maybe in the west but Splatoon is probably more popular than both Mario and Zelda in Japan
I would imagine that they would release it this summer. Splatoon makes big numbers during the summer holidays with kids, especially in Japan.
no DLC for mario kart 8 is a bit surprising, tbh. just a couple of cups and characters to hold people over until 9, it'd go a long way.
Yeah, Splatoon and summer just go together. I could see them releasing it alongside that mid-2020 "Switch Pro," if that's a thing.
Zelda is a lock for November 20, 2020, and has been since the moment they put it in their E3 trailer last year.
I'm going to sing the same gospel as on the other threads: i firmly believe that both Splatoon 3 and MK9 will be released in 2020 to help pushing the new switch pro based on tegra x2. Fully compatible with og switch off course.
No. Splatoon is Nintendo big summer title. I have a new Splatoon spin-off for the summer. Even if it's Splatoon 3 it would be Nintendo's big summer title.A hypothetical Splatoon 3 doesn't really do it for a huge holiday Nintendo release, right?
Mario Kart 9 came out last year. Mario Kart Tour counts as that unfortunately.Would adore to see Mario Kart 9 this year but don't really see it happening
What's unfortunate about that?
Probably because when they released it, they saw it as a stop-gap to boost the Switch sales in its first year while the team was developing the sequel; especially as before March 2017, the Switch was absolutely not assured to be successful.
There's really nothing twisted about this line of thinking, I don't understand why mentionning it made people so angry in the last 2 years...
Because it's bad :P
With that logic, Mario Kart Arcade Gp would be MK 10 then.Mario Kart 9 came out last year. Mario Kart Tour counts as that unfortunately.
Depends on what they add to it. If it's just another Mario Kart, then meh. If it adds some features like track creation, more non-Mario characters and tracks, or pulls a Smash Ultimate, then I'm all in.
This. I do expect the respective team to release something completely new instead.I don't think the Switch is getting a new Mario Kart.
It already has Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Nintendo has never, EVER, released more than one Mario Kart per platform.
The thing with Mario Kart 9 is I can't get my head around why they would split the online multiplayer audience. Nintendo have never released multiple MK games on any of their systems, even before online multiplayer was a thing, but to do it now would split the audience and makes little sense.
Extra DLC would be the only way forward, but if they've not done it by now it feels extremely unlikely. To be clear, 8 Deluxe is not short on content!
I'd expect a Diddy Kong Racing, F Zero or even Star Fox GP (lol!) as releasing before Mario Kart 9 (not all of them... 1 of them).
How long have you played it? It's quite entertaining really, just trashy monetization.

If the next MK is indeed in development, then I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed all the way back to the next console.
MK is very much an audience puller, so it's always released within the first two years. I don't know of any Mario Kart that released late in a console's life. There's no real strategic value for doing so.
And Nintendo is quite infamous for moving things to the next console.
