They don't have any. They rely on moderately budgeted games, that what I'm talking about. What was the last Bamco game with huge budget? The point was, that sales are way below what any game of its technical calibur, which is that it will be unlikely to do 300K in Japan. How many games has Bandai Namco developed that have been commercially successful (by receiving praise in Bamco's investor reports or by analysts) with lower sales so quickly? And the graphics in the game are very good and rivals what other single player games are doing technically, with VR! I think the definition of AAA is wider than you think...is there any question that this is one of Bamco's lead releases this year, and especially this quarter?
Also my bad on KT, I mixed up devs...but my general point was, what games do they develop, besides fighting games, that have a bigger budget than this?
The nature of the source allows for a good range of wiggle-room, but the results are still going to be very lopsided. There are a few assumptions being made, particularly about Nintendo digital timescale, that could open January's digital sales quite a bit. Still, by the end of December, Smash Bros wasn't the reigning #1 game on the Japanese eshop. That Cat game and NSMBDX have both consistently beaten Smash since their launches, and even MK8DX did while on sale. So if Smash really sold 200k+ in January according to Famitsu, then those other games games need to have done so, too. Don't hold your breathe.Hmm interesting thanks. But if it did 525k in month 1 then it did only 30k in month 2 and that's pretty questionable.
That would require about a 3% increase over 2018. I can definitely see that happening.I haven't been paying much attention but is it possible that Nintendo + Pokémon will represent 50%+ of all software sales this year?
His numbers in this case are generally accurate and are not counting digital. It's close enough from what we know. He just REALLY REALLY REALLY needs to show his work.
The PS4 had a busy Feb last year (DW9, SAO, SoM, etc...). But I don't think Bayonetta's 21k debut did all that much heavy lifting. The PS4 won't keep up with last year, but I don't see why the Switch wouldn't behave all that differently. This Feb looks so quiet release wise. I wonder how hardware will hold.
europe and japan digital only in usaSorry if I'm derailing the thread, but Blazblue central fiction is releasing tomorrow, will there be physical release worldwide, or is it Japan only?
Splatoon 2 will reach 3 million first, then Smash Bros. Ultimate 2nd.
Splatoon support ends in less than half a year. Smash has a year worth of dlc and press that comes from itEven though Smash will likely overtake Splatoon 2 is it possible that S2 will eventually regain the lead?
Has Nintendo ever done a « deluxe » version of a game before? (Not counting ports/remasters, just straight up rereleases)I wonder if Nintendo will do a complete edition of Splatoon 2 to grab some extra sales after the official support ends. You know, have the game and Octo Expansion in one lower priced package.

Right, they were the first physical release.Only two I can think of are: Snipperclips Plus (Snipperclips+DLC) and NES Remix+ (NES remix 1+2). But both of those started their lives as digital titles.
Not sure, but my gut is telling me that is a NoA NoE exclusive.Right, they were the first physical release.
I was thinking along the lines of GOTY editions with all DLC.
I guess Nintendo never really had to do it since well.. the games sell for freaking forever.
Maybe Mario+Luigi U on WiiU?
Haha yes! I'm part of team 1m including digital.
Famitsu changed formatting of top 30 and removed hardware info.
This could be the end of end of public hardware data from them, they devote all their attention to digital polls.
Over 40% digital in Japan is not likely.Hmm. Can KH3 get to 1M on the physical side of things? It's probably there already with digital, but it would be cool to see it get there with physical copies too.
Same for RE2 but that seems impossible at this point in time.
Nelke is a spin-off game that doesn't have the core gameplay of the series and the appeal seems to mostly be about seeing all the characters from past games interact with each other. it doesn't seem at all suited for newcomers, I'm not even interested in it myself despite being a fan because it isn't a proper game and looks pretty thin.Does that game stand alone? I've never played an Atelier game, but I think this one might get some heavy price cuts and I'd be tempted.

I didn't start those arguments, I was responding to the two people that brought up western sales, and AC6's sales in Japan on 360.

I noticed you still neglected to mention even one PS4 game that has sold less than 300K and has been declared a commercial success. But yeah, Bandai Namco isn't the 2nd or 3rd biggest third party publishers in Japan and this isn't one of their lead games this quarter, along with Jump Force. Look at the percentage drop this week! It will be lucky to make 300K.They don't have any. They rely on moderately budgeted games, that what I'm talking about. What was the last Bamco game with huge budget?
And what does it even mean by "lead release"? This is the first time I've heard of this term. Does being a "lead release" means you have to sell a certain amount of copies? What amount is that?
Also Japan is not the main target of AC, so I don't know why you are so obsessed with Japanese sales (which is not bad at all).
And whatever AAA means by your definition, the point is AC7 doesn't have nearly enough budget as your typical western AAA title. Technology wise there's nothing particularly impressive about it, it's not like Bamco spend money on a new engine or anything. And as I mentioned before, the amount of asset and animation, which is usually the lionshare of work in game development, is on the low side.
The whole "AC7 bombed" narrative is completely groudless so far and I'm not going to entertain the idea any further.

And this is a Japanese sales thread which is why we are talking Japan sales, yet people are saying they don't see where people have brought up western sales LOL...when by simple word of mouth and mindshare, AC7 is not doing good anywhere in the world...didn't even make the top ten selling PSN games of January for US, or the top 20 for EU. Go to the AC7 OT if you think that's wrong.
Yeah...Bandai Namco is totally putting the same financial and marketing effort into all their games, so let's be daft by acting like you don't know what I mean by a "lead" or "major" release...on a sales thread on a gaming message board. There is a reason that no one of coming to the defense of the 2 or 3 of you defending this...but ok, I'll play along. Everything is fine.
I could be changing, but in my experience, single-player RPGs in popular series are usually bought physically. For 2 reasons:
1. For players who finish them quickly they can get most of their money back reselling (which is one reason RPG games loose legs quickly, so many used copies). I have a friend who does this for almost any big RPG release. He sometimes buys them back down the line when they are dirt cheap.
2. Hardcore fans also don't often buy digitally in beloved series because they like to collect and display their full ____series collection. They have been waiting a long time for the next game in the series and it's not ever leaving their shelf. (this is admittedly me).
Again it might be changing but I have 7 co-workers who bought Kingdom Hearts 3 and none of them bought it digitally. 5 of those same people bought MHW and 3 of them bought it digitally. I know that is only one anecdote and meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but based on my experience, I would be very surprised of KH3 was at 1,000,000 now. I also think SE would have said something if it was.
It can get there with digital, but it's not the type of game that tends to sell 10k every week for month. The natural decline towards negligible sales will carry with it enough units sold to reach 1M imo, though.Fair enough. Still, can it get there? Is it the sort of game that can keep on selling 10k-20k per week in the following months?
Well there you go, so at least we know that the sales for AC7 is doing much better there than it is the rest of the world.Jump Force won't sell 300k in Japan either though. The Dragon Ball Z games haven't, FighterZ hasn't even sold 200k even with the Switch version added in.
That prety much confirms it's intentionalNot sure if this has been mentioned already, but the Famitsu magazine itself also no longer lists hardware sales.
Wow, that Conception remaster release. What a bomb. Especially considering there was a TV anime a few seasons ago that was made in no doubt to help increase the game series' fanbase.
