Kazuma Kiryu, AKA "The Dragon of Dojima"
He made his first appearance on Ryū ga Gotoku (Like a Dragon), also known as Yakuza in the West

Raised in an orphanage, he had a high-ranking member of Yakuza as his father figure. It was expected he would follow a cold and cruel path, something appropriate for the criminal world in which he was placed.

But he didn't. Let's just say he wasn't fit for this job.

Although violence is his first weapon of choice to take care of problems, every time he does it is for the greater good, he uses his fists to change people's hearts. Every time he opens his mouth it is to share wisdom.
But enough talk, let the man speak for himself:

there's also this one, just perfect :

One thing I learned since I got myself into the Yakuza "world" is that while its fandom isn't perfect, there are a lot of people who feel touched by his actions. Some even told me they try their best to live in a way that would make Kiryu proud.

"What would Kiryu do?"

Our brother Vittorio sent this message to me:
"I try to live by Kiryu's teachings, and I always take this with me to remember not to fail him"

Kazama was an amazing father to raise a man like Kiryu. Kiryu's got his best qualities and took them up a notch. He's dope.

Indeed.

As long as you have something to fight for other than money or power, he will respect you.

What a beautiful post OP.

The Yakuza series is one of my favourites, and Kiryu is easily the most likeable non-Nintendo character in gaming history.

The localisation team are spectacularly talented also.

This man cannot keep his nose out of other people's business to save his life. Still love him though.

Kyriu is fantastic. I wish I had played the series much earlier cause I might have learned a thing or two about not being a jerk lol.

This is invariably going to sound stupid but I feel that the Yakuza series mostly tried to clean up its act because you can't make a series about the world's most wholesome man if the surrounding context is deeply prejudiced.

This always really rubbed me the wrong way because it comes off as propagandistic given the real organization is know for some pretty horrific crimes.

Thus why Majima is a better character. Also can we really call Kiryu wholesome with the gross attitude towards women in these games? Like Kiryu manages Cabaret clubs for fuck's sake.

Doesn't he not like women fighting or something? Like in Yakuza 0 , he interferes in Tatsu's fight cause they had more numbers despite her kicking ass
