Trump could never post something like this with a freaking pet. Or with a broomstick. He is absolutely incapable of showing actual, positive emotion like "love" or "happiness", and it must eat him up when he actually stops and thinks about it.

I truly believe that's why he gets so weird when he says things like "could you see me with a dog?". Like the most empathetic thing you can think of is absolutely beyond anything he is interested in. He has zero interest in relating to the common man.

Like I feel like 30 years ago, even something like that would have been the death of his campaign, even disregarding the criminal cases and his personality.

That tweet and the replies, holy fuck does the US need better mental health services that can be accessed by anyone badly.
They know _exactly_ that the whole greenscreen/face audience/bought people stuff is crap. They just repeat it in the vein hope it might stick somehow.

Honestly, at this point it's just desperation because they absolutely know they had their chance to steamroll this and completely fumbled it, while the dems now catch back wind with everything they do or say. They're done. Go vote, USA.

It's called deleting Twitter. It does wonders.

I will bang this drum until I'm dead. I know other social media platforms can be various forms of toxic but Twitter is straight up unusable now and should be binned by everyone globally. It is salted earth. No good will ever come out if it anymore.

Some people sad to say just seem too far gone. When you seem incapable of believing the truth and can only digest conspiracy theories, how do you bring someone back from that?

It's possible (and even research backs this up), but it takes an incredible amount of time and effort (and compassion). Effectively, you have to keep meeting these people in the middle over and over until they slowly come around. Stuff like "yeah, I get why you'd be upset about immigrants taking jobs...it definitely is a tough job market, and it sucks to see other people doing well when you aren't. I know a guy who moved here from Nigeria, though, and his kid is sick, so him and his wife are working 2-3 jobs each. Can't imagine going through that, can you?" And then you get them to admit that while maybe most immigrants are bad, there are some good ones that they can relate to. Then the next conversation moves them a bit further, etc, etc.

It's incredibly tough work, and really it's only feasible on the people who love the most, you can't do it for strangers. It's emotionally exhausting, and in the end you might not bring them back completely, but at least get them to express and understand more empathy, etc.

I honestly don't think you can. Even if those people would begrudgingly say "alright, I'll believe you, what you say and can prove must be the truth by every measurement", they still will have that thought, just not talking about it. It's why it's abnormally, incredibly hard to actually get out of even the most obvious bullshit conspiracies that are easily debunked, like flat earth or ghosts or whatever, once you _actually_ pushed yourself into believing it. It's not impossible, but it has to start with themselves, and being willing to listen to reason. And admitting you're wrong, which, probably, is the hardest thing among all of these.

Reality is what you perceive it to be, and that goes both ways, I guess.

This is actually kinda scary how many people in the comments agree with this. How bad have things gotten in these people's minds to not be able to do any actual research
And how many of them are sincere? Because to me, compared to what the livestream looked like, that clip looks like it has a filter on it to make it look fake.

All they need to do is punch a few words into any search engine to see hundreds of different perspectives of this event. Literally in the background you can see people with phones. Just... Do research people!

Do Republicans ever get concerned that their world view relies on so many conspiracies being true? They live in a different reality and it's damn scary

Based on what's left after my blue tick blocker has gone to town, of the hundreds on it, there's literally about three replies to that post which aren't blue ticks; that's always a sign that a post is just a bot/troll farm and there's probably ten real people maximum actually posting unironically about it (still ten too many of course).

The entire comments section has to be all bots, I know these people are idiots, but there's no way they're THAT dumb. It takes 5 seconds to see videos of the event from other angles on twitter.
That and to see Kamala said she was announcing her VP no less than 24 hours before the rally. People knew it was going to be a big rally.

And hell, it might have filled without the VP pick, that's just the vibe right now.

A lot of people seem to have the sentiment about Walz being like the father they lost to Fox News etc.

This hits close to home. Was raised in a moderately conservative household, and to see my parents go completely off the rails to support Trump is depressing. I know they're good people, they're just gullible and have been duped by a conman. I agree that Tim Walz is a great role model for old white dudes, I genuinely hope I have his enthusiasm and empathy when I'm that age.

Wonder how long it'll be before the GOP start embracing "weirdo" as a badge of honor like they did with deplorable and domestic terrorist.

I'm watching the rally from yesterday and whooo boy, you can just tell Harris is happy w/ her pick lol
Dude dropped some good lines.
"We believe in the golden rule: mind your own damn business"
"Believe it, folks, violent crime was UP under Trump... and that's not even counting the crimes he committed"
The couch bit involving JD Vance that I'm sure everyone's heard already lol

There's just a sincerity to the guy which I don't see too often replicated in politics. It's wild how down we all were ~a month ago. Good times ahead...

Probably soon at some point, they have awareness enough to adjust, but what their reaction to the word (and similar) indicates a motive that drives them.

They want to be taken seriously, and the fastest most abused strat to get there is to piss people off or scare them. You mirror that back and they feel relevant and listened to.

Which is why the smarter ones are trying to assuage their internal fears with messaging saying they have the policy to back them up. Which is....P25? The one they avoid talking about at all cost? Lol. Never mind that Trump is shitty at championing and supporting any of that messaging as their fearless leader.

Edit: That's encouraging Eden, I'll gladly be wrong on them adjusting.

yeah I've been hearing about texas going purplish blue since I was in middle school or whenever I was old enough to understand the statewide political discourse (i'm 40 now, for reference). fetch is not going to happen, or certainly not in 10-ish years
the best shot was Beto in 2018 against Cruz. which was really close. lost by like 220k votes.

but the thing is, Beto and his campaign busted their asses going all over Tx. I saw interviews with rural farmers saying like "no democrat has campaigned out here in 30 years, until Beto came" but is it worth it? All these small towns population 5k to 20k are like 50 to 150+ miles away from each other and even further from major metro areas. The physical time component is real. This is where someone is like yea but houston/austin/dallas/san Antonio have lots of people and are blue. True, however you're never going to get 100% turnout and all those metro areas were still like Biden 55 or 60 to Trumps 45 or 40 percent of the vote.

Most likely not anytime soon because weirdo is a very very standard way to bully people. Deplorable can be passed off as "look how snooty/pompous the dems are for calling us deplorable."

Which is why instead of embracing it they're having absolute meltdowns and doing nothing to stop the weirdo allegations because they are still being so fucking weird instead of trying to be normal.

Jesus Christ, I'm so sorry. My dad just basically cut off most of his family including the Trump supporters. In fairness though my dad already had issues with racism and right wing conspiracy even all the way back to the 80s and 90s. One more thing to push him into isolation.

Trump did take a dad away from some family friends. Used to be liberals that grew up in Massachusetts, but some thing about the tea party just drove the dad nuts and he started going on a Trump and info wars binge and started seeing snipers in the trees. He ended up dying of COVID due to not believing it was real and not getting help in the pandemic. 52. Left two kids - one only 4 and one a fantastic teenage musical genius - and a woman who struggled to work to take care of them all because he spent his time online, convinced jobs were "how liberal managers get one over on the blue collar guys". The entire family was broken to shreds and they're still struggling and we did all we could until it was just too much.

So sorry to hear that

They will never embrace weird because the entire conservative culture war ideology is centered on being the in-group, rightfully above anyone who doesn't fit their perfect mold of what "normalcy" is. They revel in being called fascists, bullies, dangerous, etc. because it makes them appear strong and formidable. They cannot fucking stand being called weird because to a conservative that is the smallest and weakest thing a person can be. And if they tried to wear it as a badge of honor, normal people would think that's even weirder.

The traffic cone fucking post flops on every possible level.
1. They're trying to frame it as if fucking traffic cones is weirder than fucking couches. This likely constitutes kink-shaming, but you're already losing if you're locking yourself into a debate on which random objects are a weirder fuck.
2. Immediately jumps to being overly descriptive with "raw dog" and "freely suspended". Humor is having enough confidence in the joke that the audience's imagination will fill in the blanks.
3. The joke ends without any sting. Hell, it's almost complementary like Walz is pulling off some wicked stunt from Jackass.

Like youtube, I cultivate what I follow but the way Twitter is set up now with checkmarks the chuds float to the top of comments if someone remarks on one thing political. Not to mention all the bots and porn bots.

I've already seen smatterings of it across social media. Non-zero chance Trump blurts it out at some point.

I guess it won't matter. He can say stolen valor and other NG who are fully aware of his bone spurs will be cheering for their god emperor's benefit.

This is just a war for moderates and the moderates might start looking left.

Eh, While that's all true it doesn't change the fact that Twitter is owned by Elon Musk. And is a massive platform for hate. And will only get worse as he pulls enough levers to silence and drown out dissent from his personal evil agenda. I do feel for those who still need to use it for their businesses and established communities of all kinds, but ideally an exodus of some sort should happen.

That post def. seems like pure satire/trolling of the other post. It's pretty good. At least that's how I read it; it's that outlandish. Doesn't have the subtlety of the couchfucking which is what gives it away.
