And Jeff's stated rationale for them doing this is because they don't want to start from scratch with NSO.

... What is so difficult about transferring NSO as it is to a new console?
You mean he doesnt know shit? It's not like other console manufactures solved this...

Unless this means an option for the Switch generation continue and having a quiet leave instead of what Sony does, which is dropping the support as fast as they could and making them buying the next PS, then it's a positive thing.

Otherwise, if they really want to keep Switch around without going for the next project, then it's a shot in the foot. Shame and everything.

That's absolute rubbish if true. Which means it probably accurate. Good lord they are milking that old ass hardware aren't they!

Switch TV. Best guess I could think of is some sort of dock that supports the other Switch models but comes with a significant storage and power upgrade. Some games can only run in docked mode or via the cloud when portable. Some games are flexible enough to run both. Sell the dock alone for ~$100-150. Sell the bundle for $399 for new owners. Give all Switch models a $50 price cut.

There was / is a rumour for every possible permutation of the next Switch - which in turn makes every single one of these rumours a total waste of time.

Like throwing a six sided dice and then predicting "it'll be somewhere between a 1 and a 6, probably a 3 but could be a 4" oh and also remember "plans change so we might be looking at a 1 or 2 situation".

A better Switch that continues the switch generation is a switch pro. A new model that plays software the switch doesn't is a new generation. This is true even if some software still supports the switch.

People keep trying to push for a dock only version and it doesn't make sense. The Switch Lite and how it gets destroyed by the normal models show people largely don't want a Switch that doesn't have the FULL capabilities of a handheld or a console. Also Nintendo isn't going to do any cloud based gaming. If they were, they would've built NSO that way

It will be a switch 2 with better specs. But the Nintendo thing will be a vr headset - dock. Look at Labo Vr and the Zelda Vr mode as the guides.

I'm betting on this literally being called "New Nintendo Switch", and the specs will be disappointing as per usual.

Switch U incoming. Nintendo's tradition of having a disappointing product which is discontinued 4 years later to then having a very successful product is on the way.

I want this to keep going forever. Switch 2 will never exist, we will always have "something in between" for years and years and years.

I can't believe they're duct-taping two Switches together. Nintendo loves the duct tape industry.

He doesn't know anything but fairly logical conservative Nintendo wouldn't rock the boat of a good thing, maximise profits with a nothing tweak and milk it to death.

Switch 64 - Double the storage space.

In between a regular Switch and a Pro? What is that even supposed to mean?

The Switch Pro or whatever sounded pretty convincingly real, and I guess a year or two after where we'd think it would have come in the Pro would be a halfassed inbetween product that Nintendo would put out instead of developing something new. Prolly gonna go w/ dude talking out of his ass though.

I'm thinking of it more as an attachment like you purchase the new and improved dock which has boosted power, storage, and perhaps other features such as 4K or VR. You can dock your lite/og/oled in it and play an enhanced version of some games as well as exclusive content. $399 model for first time Switch owners who don't already own the main unit/handheld component. Again based solely on what Jeff is speculating. Also, the Switch currently offers Cloud-only games. Something that extends the Switch's lifespan and continues current software sales while still being this weird in between he is talking about.

Insiders covering all their bases so they don't have to admit they don't know anything, like when there are "changes of plans".

that's really not going to work. boosting power how? the usb on the switch doesn't have enough bandwidth to support an external gpu and memory and storage

Yeah I think Grubb has indications there is new hardware but he is absolutely clueless as to what it is.

That said, he seems most definitive that this new device will work with the existing Switch ecosystem and to carry over existing users

This is pretty much what Nintendo has been saying for years but people continue to second guess them "because Nintendo"

I don't know why his logic is maintaining the same ecosystem = not a full successor
It sounds more like he's falling into the assumption that Nintendo drops BC with every new system, which is exhausting to hear and constantly dispel

by his logic, the Series and PS5 aren't successors either. I'd like to see him make that argument
